  1. How many games do you have to miss to qualify for the following season "Comeback" player of the year award? If Beltre qualifies, he wins hands down. My first prediction of the year I think Beltre will have a "surprising" season.
  2. What's dead? Lowell probably will remain in Boston until at least ST regardless. So I don't know why you felt the need to state the obvious.
  3. I like the signing. Beltre for on a one year deal is great.
  4. I like this deal a lot for numerous reasons.
  5. As do I. Que the "Dipre and BSN" boyfriend comments...
  6. No I know they could go over the threshold for the right deal. I don't think and obviously they didn't either that Bay was a player in which they should do this for. Mauer on the other hand probably is.
  7. Sorry for just being lazy and not elaborating on the deal further
  8. Oh ok. Thanks. Well like you said Papelbon gets 13M and the Sox have 27M to play with. Or they trade him and have 40M to play with. And yes Jacko I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox shopped Papelbon. Especially if Bard has a break out season.
  9. His entering his six year. He's a FA I believe at the end of the year. I could be wrong though.
  10. I think this team will be surprisingly good next season. And I really don't get the worry about having Kotchman start the year at 1B. The guy has been a starter and been fairly good. He may not be the typical hitter at 1B, but he plays good defense. And that seems to be what the Sox are trying to do this season. Given the Sox SP and current defensive make up, the Sox need to score around 4 runs per game. Which doesn't seem to unreasonable for the current offense. And It doesn't seem to unreasonable to think the Sox rotation averages a 4 ERA. All I'm really getting at is Kotchman is not bad enough with the bat to under value's what he provides defensively enough to make the Sox break the Luxury Tax right now. I really think the Sox will be going with a rotation of players between the 1B/3B/DH spots. When Lowell sits or DH's, Youk at 3B, Kotchman/Martinez at 1B. Which I think will work well to keep Lowell healthier and still have a lineup capable of scoring some runs. And if it isn't they will most likely be someone available at the TDL to help boost production. Unless Hoyer blinks in the Agon discussions, everyone should be ready to back this team as constructed.
  11. You forgot he plays for the Yankees now Dipre. He's straight cash homie!
  12. That and I have to think it would hurt in some manner towards the negotiations with future draft picks. It at least has to be taken in to account. Either that or he's just making Hoyer think he is untouchable and when Theo agrees to put him in a package with a couple other prospects, Hoyer will believe he is getting a steal or something. :dunno: Just a thought. Right now I think a Kelly/Reddick/Rizzo(Anderson)+1 gets a deal done. Which is a solid offer IMO. I don't want them to give Kelly up, but I understand the type of player that would be coming back. And he really shouldn't be untouchable. As high as his ceiling may be(and I admit I think it's top of the rotation high), he is only 20. And the Red Sox have shown consistency in advancing their young pitching prospects at a less then aggressive pace. So Kelly might not be a stable piece of this club until for 3+ seasons. A lot can happen over that time. So I wouldn't be upset if he was moved for a player like Agon.
  13. I'm not sure the Sox are going to be in on Beltre regardless. His price tag is too high right now and would surely push them over the Luxury tax. And all indications are they don't want to. If the Texas deal went through as expected, meaning Ramirez is the return, I think Youk goes to 3B and Martinez/Ramirez/ and Kotchman will rotate at 1B/C.
  14. Really? They weren't right to think Damon would break down and not be an everyday CF?
  15. Right now I expect some sort of rotation of Youk/V-Mart/Lowell/Papi between the 1B,3B,DH, (with Martinez obviously catching as well) spots to begin the season(substitute Ramirez if the Lowell trade goes through). By the TDL they should know if one or more of the rotation needs to be replaced and could look for a bat via trade. If it's working then they probably won't look to add anyone big and see how it goes. I don't see Beltre coming to Boston anymore. I was never sold on Agon coming to Boston before the season anyways. I think the Sox are done with any significant moves this off season. I expect them to go to battle with what they have and make some interesting moves next offseason with a good amount of money coming off the Books.
  16. If they can manage to add Sheets, and maybe a Bedard type they might have a shot at the WC IMO.
  17. Toronto will be receiving a 2nd rounder for Scutaro. It was brought up when he was signed originally. A lot of people were pissed the Sox were giving up their 1st rounder for Scutaro. But if they signed a better Type A(Lackey, Holliday), Toronto would be getting screwed again by a AL East rival and only recieveing a 2nd rounder for their troubles. Thus making the Scutaro signing far more palatable. Nice post
