  1. Whether they keep the same pieces around or really overhaul the roster, it will be an interesting off season. I expect a lot of hot debate around here. What's everyone think about having Beltran manning CF/LF for a season(if both Crawford and Werth go elsewhere, or price themselves out)? He's been hitting well lately. And the Mets look like they are gonna clean house. I doubt he would cost a lot if the Sox picked up most of the bill. Which they could very well do with all the $ coming off the books. I can't see the Mets balking at getting rid of his 18M salary next season. I suppose if the Mets were really blowing things up they could see how much it would be to get both Beltran and Reyes. Dojji would be tickled pink because that would most likely lead to a Scutaro(if healthy)/Lowrie combo at 3B for next season This scenario could work well for the Sox. They could field a solid team in 2010 while not hurting themselves with questionable long term deals. Beltran, Scutaro and other will be off the books, leaving plenty of money to pursue Prince, AD or int he unlikely event he's available, Pujols. Not saying this should be the only thing the FO works on this winter. Just a piece.
  2. There isn't much but there is always the option of moving Youk to 3B and getting a 1B. Konerko/Lee(plan Z) or Pena on a 1 year deal would be ok. I could stand Dunn at 1B for a season as well. Although it's not ideal.
  3. I hope they don't give Werth more then 3-4 years. Beltre is going to have to like Boston for him to stay there. I for see a "Lowell" type offer from the Red Sox. If he wants top dollar he is gone. I have read Lee is looking for absolute top dollar. So yes he will probably be a Yankee. Let's just hope Texas has damaged him enough
  4. Banging one's head against a table repeatedly will cause this Can we all just agree it was a s*** season? It's over. There is nothing any argument from either side can do to change this. Slap 2010 with a "spilled milk" reference and move on. Now with a clean slate and no shoulda woulda coulda's let's focus on what the team needs to do going into 2011 and beyond.
  5. I knew he was Korean. But I wasn't sure if he came straight from Korea or if he went and played in Japan first. I guess we could add Colby Lewis to the list. He's had a solid season. His W-L line sucks, but 190 innings of 3.8 ERA ball while approaching 200 K's with 62 walks isn't bad. Especially considering the Rangers ballpark is a known hitters park.
  6. Does Kerry Wood get any consideration for the BP this offseason?
  7. My bad
  8. The Rays roster is deep with talent because they were picking at the top of the draft for many consecutive years. And right now those players are panning out. They don't have any huge FA failures because they can't afford to take the risk. The Red Sox like the Yankees have deep wallets are able to role the dice more often. The Rays ate it with Pat Burrell. Which was their one big $ addition after their WS run.The thing the Rays have really only done better with is trades. they make great trades.
  9. Just to put that out there. I'm fine with the Dice-K. He's a serviceable #4-5 SP. He's maddening to watch sometimes and if they traded him I wouldn't cry. But I don't believe he is an all out bust. My opinion for awhile is that he is a NL pitcher grinding through the AL. Put him in the NL and I would wager he would be an upper part of the rotation starter. Kei Igawa is a bust.
  10. Hard to say. He's younger then Dice-K, and from everything I have read, he seems to be the better prospect(at time of posting). The economy is different today though. The economy for baseball is different. So someone bidding 50M seems less likely. But I'm sure Darvish's current team is picturing 50M+ because they have a better player then Dice-K in their opinions. So there is always the chance if someone doesn't pony up the big bucks, they could just pull him back.
  11. If he would come now, then maybe. I think it is better to get these talented Asian pitchers while they are still developing. That way there is still time to adapt them to "American" baseball. If he doesn't come over until his late 20's then pass. By that time he will be set in his ways and will have trouble adjusting like so many others IMO.
  12. the play clock said 00 for a god second at least. There should have never been a play. Kudos to MS Head coach for having the balls to call it. I love that the name of the play was "Little Giants"
  13. Sure they can be worked around. And the West coast would probably make him bend more then other places. But the Dodgers make no sense if they are cutting payroll and moving key players. Ethier has 9.25M left on his deal. Dice-K has 20M. If LA doesn't blow it up and they are trying to contend(spend$) next season, then yes the Dodgers could be a fit. Not sure what they would have to offer though. I'd rather trade them Lackey
  14. I have read a few columns rumbling about the Mets cleaning house. New GM and Manager and possibly blowing up the roster. David Wright and/or Jose Reyes could be the answer to a lot of issues for this team. Both would command a decent return. But if they really are made available, the Sox have to in on them right? Maybe take on Beltran's last year to lower the cost in prospects? Kelly+Doubront+Reddick+IF prospect for Wright?
  15. Dice-K has a No Trade Clause and makes more $ then Ethier. So that doesn't make sense for a team that may go through a fire sale.
  16. I never liked the signing or understood it to begin with. But he's part of the team for the time being, so I will hope for the best. And Nate, there is is very little chance they will trade him this offseason. I can't imagine most teams wanting to give up talent and take on the remaining tab on his deal. Maybe some team that was interested in him last of season would be willing to take a chance on him, but not likely. He's going to have to pitch decent next season before moving him is a realistic option IMO. Trade him to the Yanks for Burnett(j/k)
  17. Ok I will admit I have been busy and haven't followed the club as close as I normally due. But why all this talk of SS for next year? Isn't Scutaro under contract?
  18. I agree. Try and use other players then Kelly, but ultimately if you have to do it to get him it be ok. I like Beltre. But not at 4+ years. I would hate for the Sox to be in the same "Lowell" type deal in year 4 of that deal. Also keeping Beltre pretty much nixes any chance of adding an impact bat from the 2011 FA class. Agon, Fielder and Pujols aren't coming to Fenway to DH IMO. If V-Mart will take the right deal I'd bring him back. If he would take 3-4 years at 10-12M(a reasonable offer, albeit an obvious home town discount). I could get on board for having him around as a C/1B/DH rotation. If he wants 4+ years(which he is likely to get offered) and wants to be an everyday catcher then let him walk.
  19. Followed by the Rays.
  20. That's pretty cool.
  21. Yes please. He would be one of the few players I wouldn't mind giving up Kelly for. I now it's a long shot. Just something for everyone to chew on.
