  1. I'd rather they get Torrealba or Molina for that matter. I'm not too high on Olivo. Maybe there is a chance the Rox make Ianetta available.
  2. I like 4 or 5 years. I could look the other way on the 20M per, if they could get a shorter deal.
  3. If the plan now is for a platoon, wouldn't it be just as good to bring Tek back for like 3 or 4M next season? He's ok with the role now. And I can't really think of anyone better I'd rather Salty be learning from. Just saying if it' not an elite C or at the very least a starting Catcher their bringing in, I don't see a reason not bring Tek back. If anything it's a minimal risk move that might nurse some of the fans back to health as they let their other FA's walk
  4. Fairly certain he wants to close. That and I believe the long term health of his arm to be a worry.
  5. If the pitching staff is able to perform to career averages, they should be fine.
  6. He's probably no more of a risk then Lee. SO I find it hard to argue it if they got him on a one year deal. No thanks to multiple years though. 1 year 7-8M would be palatable. The same goes for Lee.
  7. 2.5 on the Dojjita scale.
  8. Seems a bit high when considering his injury risk.
  9. 2010 WAR Agon- 5.3 Konerko- 4.2 Bautista- 6.9(OF/3B ) Pujols- 7.3 Teixeria- 3.5(his big 2009 was good for a 5.4) Youkilis- 4.2 Fielder- 4.1 Howard- 2.0 Votto- 7.4 I was looking for OPS+ on fangraphs. Am I just missing it or is it better to look elsewhere. I would wager his OPS+ numbers are better then most.
  10. But what about 2011?!?! They need to trade everyone now!(I'm hoping the sarcasm from this comment leaks all over the screen ) I agree. I want Agon as bad as anyone, but it seems foolish to give up a huge package of talent for him now. When they could just wait a season and throw just $ at him. With the Yankees out of the running. I don't see anyone outbidding them for Agon's services if they really want him.
  11. From what I have read they only offered Arbitration to Vasquez.
  12. Paying Jeter anything over 7M a year is a bad idea. Paying him 16M a year for the next 4 years would be a lot of dead money for the team, d-money.
  13. They can ask all they want. The won't get that at the deadline, which is the most likely time he will get deal. The time for a big haul is almost passed. And it looks as though SD will keep him for at least the opening of the season. For a half year rental, they will be looking more at getting something back like the Braves did when they traded Tex to LAA. The Braves got Kotchman and a minor league prospect.
  14. Yes they would look foolish for about 6 months and when the next big story comes along no one will care and the Sox will be stuck paying a broken down Jeter more $ then even the Yankees were willing to offer. How dumb is that? Baseball is not about making people look foolish. Take that crap back to your JR High debates.
  15. I always allow for 1 transition season with FA's coming to Boston, or at least try to. I never felt Lackey was a good long term solution for the team. But hopefully he manages to be at least league average. And to be honest, you coul have a lot worse in the #4 spot in the rotation.
  16. Oh God Butch Hobson LOL That was right about the time I really got into the Red Sox. So from what your saying, it looks as though I got right in when they where at their worst. I can remember watching Bob Zupzic and Bill Hatcher in the OF LOL God those where some awful teams I wasn't saying it was all bad. I know there where good teams and players before I was able to see them. I'm just saying for all the Club went through in those years, it seems like the last decade has been pretty good to Sox fans and it shouldn't be forgotten over a couple bridge years. And yes this season might be a "bridge" type year again. But they should still be competitive regardless.
  17. You must be a Yankee fan then. That would only help make the Yankees better.
  18. I agree. I don't see that large of a distance in what he produces compared to what Ellsbury produces. And when you take $ into account, it doesn't make a lot of sense. I think Crawford has a little more pop in his bat then Lofton. But I'd be worried abut all those years on the turf in TB. Look at Vlad. He's 34 and runs like he is 44. That playing surface take a massive toll. And when you consider Crawfords biggest weapon being speed, he is unlikely to live up to his to the deal it will take to sign him.
