  1. We are very excited. But a lot of us understand they are big risky moves that may not look as good at the end of the deals. At least when it comes to Crawford. When it comes to free agents expect them to set a price to a player and stick to it . They won't spend money just to spend money to appease certain factions of fans. They make good on field and off field investments that fit their model. This approach allowed them to save the money and prospects(traded pieces) that others wanted them to spend trade at inopportune times, to make the big moves this off season. Sometimes this will result in "bridge" type years. But if you can handle that you should be fine. If your learn anything from the Ownership group it's this. They want to win, they want to be competitive, and although they may not spend the most(No one spend as much as the Yankees) expect them to be pretty high up in the payroll rankings. And don't expect knee jerk reactions by the organization either. They are typically calm, cool, and collected.
  2. Yes when you reported that this morning I became much more sold on Martin. A Martin/Tek platoon and Salty marinating in AAA, would be the best depth at Catcher the Sox have had in awhile.
  3. I don't think they will be the Rays of the last couple years, but they won't be push overs either. They have a lot fo young arms coming up to fill in. Jennings is said to be Crawford 2.0 and Brignac is no slouch jumping to replace Barnett. 1B I'm not sure of. Their BP could be an issue but they could let the kids learn on the job or go dumpster diving. I think 3rd place will be a dead heat between Toronto and TB. I expect them both around 85 wins.
  4. This ownership plays everything close to the chest. The less you hear, the more likely they are working on something. Not always, but a good portion of the time. I would expect them to try and stabilize the roster. And once they have done that, then I would expect some larger pieces to be put in place.
  5. Martin>Olivo Martin possible upside is much higher then Olivo's IMO. Olivo may be a surer thing at this point in time because of the ? surrounding Martin's hip.
  6. But chicks dig the long ball
  7. The posters are mostly Red Sox and Yankee haters. The staff at MLBTR seems indifferent to me.
  8. He doesn't cost much, and gives the Sox some upside at a position where they don't really have a lot right now. If he was 34 or something coming back from a hip injury, I would be less interested.
  9. Coming from the guy who's team is trying their hardest to drop 20-25M AAV for a number of years into a 32 year old pitchers lap . Is Lee's agent the same as Kevin Browns when he was playing? And they just brought back their 36 year old SS for 3X the $ he would have gotten anywhere else. Or let's not forget Arod making 27M AAV until he is 42. So let's not get to high up on our horse when discussing big long term deals. Crawfors contract is better then any of those out side of Jeter's and that's only because it's for 3 years. Theo deserves credit for saving and planning for the players he wanted. Not throwing it all away and trying to salvage lost causes. Yes we should be cautious, because we don't know how any of the deals will work out. I jut think the word of caution coming from you or any other Yankee fan about long term deals and how much they are worth is funny
  10. Really? Salty being able to go to AAA would be ideal. I think they need to sign Martin to 2 years at least.
  11. Crawford and Pedroia don't want or like leading off. Crawford is getting 20M a year, so he better be in the middle somewhere, Ellsbury Pedroia Agon Youk Crawford Lowrie Ortiz Drew Salty Martin could go a long ways to balancing this lineup out.
  12. Starters Salty C, 1B Agon 1B, DH Pedroia 2B Scutaro SS Youk 3B, 1B Crawford OF Ellsbury OF Drew OF Ortiz DH Bench Martin C, 3B, 1B, 5th OF Tek C Lowrie Utility Cameron 4th OF Pitchers Lester Beckett Buchholz Lackey Dice-K BP Paps Bard Wake Doubront That's 22 unless I'm counting wrong, my GF is blabbing in my ear so I could be off lol. 3 spots left. You could go with 3 more BP arms, or 2 and add a 1B/OF type. Looks doable to me

  14. I don't anticipate anymore large expenditures this off season. And Reyes at 11M is. Considering the talent you would have to send NY's way, and is it only a one year rental or do they risk extending him? Reyes is a great player when healthy. No question. But can he stay health consistently? Or is he ok with sitting a few times a week for Lowrie to help keep him fit? Reyes would be a great addition. But I think there is a lot more to it then just adding him. Not even sure if the Sox have that much left to spend, considering they need BP help. I would like to hear they are involved with the Marlins for Nunez.
  15. I get 5.62 with Scuataro and Martin and 5.64 if you replace Lowrie for Scutaro with the line ups I suggested earlier. The top scoring lineup with martin in the lineup was 5.859
  16. They can keep all three on the roster. The Sox play 6 games a week at least. Each get 2 games, Russell gets one at 3B a week. This may not work all season, but in the beginning with Tek's age, Martin's health, and Salty's defensive issues, it be a good rotation. It be even better if Martin can handle 5th OF duties. Not sure on that thought. Once they get into the season maybe one becomes available via trade. Or DFA'd? None of them are making massive amounts of money.
  17. I'm hoping it's like 2/8M or something like that. He was thought to be due like 4.2M in arb this year.
