  1. That is true. I basically tuned out 2016 til after the deadline and watched Sanchez go nuts thereafter
  2. I consider the 2016 season a success. Dealing off the guys we did to rebuild and then watching that team immediately run to the ALCS the following year was awesome to see
  3. Disagree. He sold off two blocked assets and still has Cartaya and Miller at the positions of Ruiz and Gray. The only thing he’s gone for broke on is salary and that’s not a team building, tangible concern
  4. Very true. I didn’t want to sell the farm to upgrade the team. But he definitely upgraded it while keeping our top 5 and 9 of our top 11. Also, the Taillon trade is suddenly not looking terrible either.
  5. Cashman is out of my doghouse for now. Major sin starting this campaign with status quo from last year, but he rectified a lot of that with the deadline moves and didn’t have to deal his top prospects to do it. Plus, he added a lot of offensive talent in the draft that should have some trade value next year or the year after. Lots of people panned his draft because of the rankings of the players. But every offensive player selected in the top 10 is a bat first player. If you look at what we dealt to get the guys we did at the deadline, we dealt guys who were hitting the s*** out of the ball. Teams inflate player values when they’re smashing minor league pitching. If the Yanks plan to use their talent on the trade market, it behooves them to draft guys with skill sets that other teams want. In this day and age it’s pitching and offense. We got a lot of offense in our top 5 picks
  6. Not predicting this in any way, but if the Sox slip from a PO spot and end up outside looking in come October, yet finish with 90 or so wins, was 2021 a success?
  7. I told you guys before and I’ll say it again. Bloom will not go for broke, likely ever. He’s a Friedman acolyte. The Dodgers always have a strong farm and deal off pieces that are redundant to improve their club. While they did move their 1 and 4 ranked prospect, both of those guys were buried with young players ahead of them on the depth chart. The Sox farm simply isn’t in a position to do that yet. Bloom will ensure that they are and my guess is within 2-3 years, you’ll be able to be big players at the deadline and have a strong far after the deals
  8. Chavis dealt for a reliever
  9. Weird to add a lefty bat. You’ve got some good lefty hitters and your park is difficult for them. I’d have though Aguilar since he’s got light tower power and could utilize it with the monster in LF
  10. Disagree. Yanks are stronger at the top still with Dominguez, Volpe, Peraza, Gil and Medina. Florial, Garcia and Schmidt, their former top 100s, are still in system. The deeper minors are still flush. Yanks moved on from areas where they had redundancies.
  11. Guy was the hottest hitter on the planet until he got hurt. He’s a couple weeks away, so will start on the Sox IL
  12. The trades I’m interested in seeing from Bloom will come this off-season. He’s the rare bird that deals off his top prospects for another top prospect and he’s usually right
  13. It’s absolutely not. The Sox top of the farm is looking better with Mayer, Durran, Casas and even Downs coming off a down year. Where the Sox lack even a semblance of anything good is beyond that first top tier. You’ve got Jimenez deep in the system, but that middle is what’s not there. You don’t have the High A or AA guys who are a tier below your top 100 guys that are usually the most tradeable assets.if you want to make a move, you’re gonna have to either get a rental who’s really cheap or sell off a top asset and it’s not the right time for that
  14. There are too many position players on the market for the Sox not to snag one. My bet is Aguilar as he won’t cost much and is a FA after the year. Bloom likely flexibility
  15. The Red Sox have a developing but still not even average farm. Adding Mayer absolutely helps, but he’s one player. Durran has warts in his game, but needs a bit more time. Downs has faded. Casas has been worth the price of admission. To make a deal of the magnitude the Dodgers made would have rendered your cupboard bare. Bloom isn’t a one year wonder guy. He’s not building to have it all end next year. I don’t think he is entirely sold on the state of the Red Sox to go all in. He just isn’t. Too many variables and too little traceable assets below the big league level to make a major move. I keep telling you guys this, but you don’t seem to want to hear it. Bloom is a Friedman acolyte. Friedman has turned the Dodgers into a farm system machine and he uses that farm as currency to stay ahead of everyone else. Until Bloom gets that level of prospect cache, he isn’t making a big deal
  16. This trade wasn’t about Scherzer. This trade was about Turner. Turner is on pace for a 6 WAR season. They now control him through 2022. Scherzer was icing on the cake. Ruiz was blocked. Smith isn’t arb eligible until 2023 and he’s on pace for a 5 war season, so Ruiz was gonna get dealt at some point. Scherzer slides into Bauer’s spot that can get filled second half of 2022 with May or Ferguson returning from TJS. They’re deep on the hill and Gray was passed as the top pitching prospect in the system by Miller. Turner also fills their biggest hole in 2022 with everyone widely expecting Corey Seager to leave via FA and go to the Yankees. For 21, Turner gives them one hell of an infield with Muncy, Turner X2, Taylor and Seager plus Bellinger if need be. They’re stacked
  17. Dodgers deal off Gray and Ruiz, their #4 and #1 prospects and get 1.3 years of Turner and a stretch run from Scherzer. Scherzer steps into the void from Bauer's departure. Kershaw, Scherzer, Buehler, Urias, Gonsolin. May comes back some time next year. Maybe Bauer comes back next year.
  18. 5 games over .500, 2 back in the L column of a playoff spot. Not the biggest fan of buying, but the cost to buy wasn't prohibitive. We gave up 3 middle infield prospects in Duran (#6), Smith (#8), and Hauver (#22). But we kept #2 Volpe and #3 Peraza while drafting #7 Sweeney. Duran was Rule V eligible after this season, Smith after next. They dealt Otto (#20), but he would have been rule 5 eligible and has 7 RHP ahead of him on the top 30 prospect list. They dealt Vizcaino (#12) but have 5 RHP ahead of him and he was Rule V eligible too. The only two players not required to hit the 40 man by end of 2022 were Alcantara and Hauver. IMO, the only two guys I really didn't want to part with were Duran and Alcantara. In what the Yanks got, they got lefty power and veteran presences in spots they lacked any sort of production. Yanks 1b's this year were tremendously bad. In Rizzo they get a steady presence who has sneakily been nails after the ASB dating back to 2018 and 2019 while showing progress the last 2 weeks with an OPS over .900. If he can come out of his slumber, he will elongate a lineup that's been only a few batters long. Gallo adds another all or nothing hitter, although one that is walking at a career best clip. He will also benefit from being in a better lineup. Gallo hasn't had anyone to protect him in Texas, now he could be protecting Judge. Add in the short porch and this pull hitter could really do some damage. After the trade, the lineup looks as such 1. Lemahieu 2B 2. Judge RF 3. Gallo LF 4. Stanton DH 5. Rizzo 1B 6. Sanchez C 7. Urshela 3B 8. Torres SS 9. Florial/Allen/Gardner CF Voit may return and if so could spell someone for injury purposes or platoon with Rizzo against southpaws. Severino is going out on a rehab assignment. Kluber is throwing bullpens. I get why the Yanks haven't done more than kick the tires on the starters. Yanks pen has been atrocious of late and no relief in sight, actually they removed Cessa and brought up Abreu who got his s*** lit up today. I still don't think this is a team that will make the playoffs and make noise, but crazier things have happened. And if they do, Cashman must NEVER make the Yankees a righty dominant team again
  19. You do, unless you're replacing a player added to the IL
  20. Yanks traded 6, 8, 12, 20, and 22 on BA’s mid season list, so not exactly blowing up the farm here. I’m tepid on the moves. I don’t think they gave up a ton while improving a bit. Gallo is a 2022 piece, so that’s one positive thing. Rizzo helps even out the lineup and gives that leadership component that the Yanks sorely lack for this year only. I’m intrigued to see who gets Voit, although he may be too damaged to move and stays as a 2022 piece
  21. Just broke. They said he had a cold. Clearly not. Get well Tito
  22. Alcantara and Vizcaino. Don’t like getting rid of Alcantara at all. We are short on good OF prospects, but it got the Cubs to eat the entire contract
  23. A recovering TJS guy for Scherzer straight up? Yeah, that’s not happening. Scherzer’s haul will be far greater than you think. He’s an ace with a long record of dominance who’s won a title. His experience and performance will be highly sought after
  24. That’s a bad deal for you. I’ve posted before about my concerns over Voit’s knee
