  1. Why would the Marlins want Cespedes for Stanton? Cespedes is under control for less yrs than Stanton. That's dumb
  2. I wonder when Napoli gets moved. Probably in the offseason if not today. Craig isn't a 3b and he's a terrible OFer. He's a 1B/DH.
  3. Mike Lowell had more of a track record than Craig.
  4. I still don't understand why the sox couldn't get more for Lackey. The guy was dominant last yr and this yr and he is under control for an extra yr at no money for the most part. This is interesting. Craig is a reclamation project, someone they could have gotten for the likes of Andrew Miller. Kelly has been good in his short time in the bigs, but he doesn't stay healthy and will likely be a reliever. This is strange. No prospects in either deal and nobody with high ceilings
  5. This is a stupid move, IMO. Cespedes is an all or nothing hitter who is only under control through 2015, as he has a clause in his contract that he cannot be offered arbitration. He doesn't fit with the OBP mindset of the brass and he will likely only be here until the deadline next yr when he'll be dealt off again.
  6. Rotoworld says Kelly is likely a pen arm in the future. Good production in pitcher friendly Busch, but chronically injured. Craig is the real get, IMO. I think if he can turn it around, he could be a middle of the order bat
  7. I have a question for you Pal. Let's say the Yankees offered the best package and those two players they dealt became sox regulars for the next 10 seasons. The deal, though, allows Lester to win a title in NY before signing in Seattle the following year. Is it worth it?
  8. It's a great idea. Lester wont re-sign in Baltimore and in the meantime, the O's can kill off the Yankees chances of reaching the playoffs. Plus, you'll basically be guaranteed a shot at him in the offseason if you so choose, with no draft pick comp attached
  9. If the Cubs get Doubront to buy in and he can reach his potential, he's a potential #2 starter with his mix of solid breaking ball and heat. I honestly think this is one of those change of scenery decisions that will decidedly work out better for Felix.
  10. Lou Merloni had a good take on EEI a week or so ago. Gone are the days of guys actually being ready for the bigs and in are the days of rushing anyone with a bat to the plate in Fenway. It almost seems as if a player just needs to dominate High A ball and start off hot in AA and all of a sudden, you're on the bigs. That's not how it is supposed to work. Bradley needed a full AAA season. Betts needed another full minor league season on top of this one. WMB was rushed a little. Bogaerts was rushed a lot. You have to let the kids be ready to ascend. That was how you won in 2007. It seemed like every season you were bringing up prospect after prospect who didn't need to go back to the minors. Lester, Buchholz, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Bard, etc. Then, the kids you were bringing up were flailing. Don't rush them, let them learn the game at their pace and they'll avoid the dreaded bus back to Pawtucket.
  11. The sox direction is puzzling. They wont titles three times based on strong pitching and timely hitting. They pawned off an unneeded piece in Peavy as they weren't re-signing him anyway. Understood there. But they aren't the Rays. They have cash to spend and one of if not the highest ticket prices in baseball. They aren't hurting for cash. That being said, they are in the process of selling off their ace and possibly their #2 and going all out rebuild in the rotation. Then, if they go out and sign an ace in the offseason, they'll be hypocrites with Lester. It is puzzling to say the least. Either they want the rebuild, and who knows how long that will take. Or they want to spend like a big market club and fill out their rotation, all the while looking like hypocrites with their home grown ace.
  12. Lester has been scratched from today's start. Let the rumors fly
  13. I honestly think a marquee FA pitcher contract is a success if the pitcher performs at ace level for half the contract. Due to the nature of the mechanics of pitching, you eat the risk of injury and decline. CC was effectively signed for 8 seasons. 4 of those yrs he was an ace. Last yr he was a #5 and this yr he's been an injured mess. The contract has been worth it, IMO
  14. And maybe Yaz's hands wouldn't be devoid of jewelry
  15. And who's the veteran signing? You'd need an ace. And Henry isn't willing to pay for one unless he trades for one
  16. Tampa and Oakland hadn't filled their rotation with unproven pitchers in every spot. In 2013, they had Colon anchoring the rotation with Parker coming off a heck of a rookie campaign. Griffin was the 3 and he'd gone 7-1 in 83IP in 2012. And Tom Milone was coming off a 13 win campaign in 2012 as the 4. Tampa is entirely different. Yes, they're all home grown guys, but they didn't all reach the majors at the same time. Price debuted in 2008. Hellickson in 2010. Moore in 2011. Cobb in 2011. Archer in 2012. Each pitcher didn't get into the rotation full time until the following yr.
  17. And Pal, that rotation gets you back to the basement next yr
  18. Sox now open to dealing Lackey too. This might be the most epic rebuild of a championship team since the 1998 Marlins sold off everyone who won the title in 97. If the sox deal off Lester and Lackey, the only starters with big league experience under contract would be.... Clay Buchholz Felix Doubront Rubby de la Rosa Allan Webster And if the sox aren't willing to commit long term to Lester, then they wont be willing to go far for Shields, Scherzer, etc. This is going to be a full out rebuild
  19. Without a massive infusion of cash into the payroll, the sox aren't contenders in 2015. This is a pretty healthy team. You cant really look at injury. A lot of guys got old quick and the kids weren't ready. This is not a great team having a down yr. This is a bad team having a terrible year.
  20. You went from having a lefty starter with promising stuff who looked like he could be a #2 in the bigs in the future, to a guy who has completely lost it. Instead of taking his new role with a vengeance, he pouted and sucked. He will likely be dealt for 5 cents on the dollar.
  21. Look at the bright side. It looks like you'll have a protected pick in the 2015 draft.
  22. Willingham is a FA after the season. There's no reason for the sox to deal for him right now. You can get him in the offseason as a FA
  23. OJ, perhaps you haven't seen what the Yankee farm has done the past few months, but they're dramatically improved from last season's abomination. That being said, I'm not sure the Yankees would want to blow their entire prospect load on Stanton right now, when they need pitching long term. I honestly think the idea that the sox will go inexpensive in the rotation with the hopes of going expensive on a COF is a bad idea. Let's say the sox keep to their policy and Lester is gone. Lackey isn't throwing for $500K next yr, so I bet they pawn him off too. Which veteran is going to be leading the rotation and teaching the kids how to come along in the bigs? Clay? Do you really want that? Every good rotation has veteran leadership to keep the guys accountable.
  24. Xander was solid until Drew was signed. Shows some immaturity
  25. They thought Alonso had the brighter future. They were wrong.
