  1. You guys aren't really seeing this the way I'm putting it out there. Rivera had a knee injury, but his last arm issue dated back to 2004. Uehara was shut down with shoulder "fatigue". Do you know how many guys get diagnosed with that who end up having major structural issues? The answer is a lot. Also, he's 40, and prior to his sox run, had a regular spot on the DL annually. Throwing a 2 yr deal at him at good money is a risk, a big one, especially for a team not expected to be in contention
  2. Rivera was the best closer in history. Koji had one amazing season and finished 2014 with an injury to his shoulder
  3. Koji was shut down with shoulder fatigue and is 40. 2 years is a risky investment, especially at $9 mil per year. I have a feeling this one is a backfiring deal. Should have been a 1 yr with a vesting option.
  4. If they cried about paying pitchers beyond the age of thirty, why would they then commit $230 to them?
  5. Rotoworld says that all the Red Sox coaches hate Cespedes and that he will be dealt come ST. Interesting that you'd trade your ace for this guy and not get an idea that he'd be a dick before dealing for him. This info torpedoes his value as does hit low OBP style and poor D.
  6. Couple things. Vazquez does not have the ceiling of an above average catcher. He's a floor of a backup due to his defensive abilities and a ceiling of a weaker offensive starting catcher. Nobody should expect anything offensively out of him, but he does have great defensive capabilities. Swihart hasn't been likened to Buster Posey, cmon now. Posey is an MVP caliber backstop. This kid looks like you above average to all star ceiling catcher, but let's not get carried away here
  7. In a league devoid of power, a guy like Cespedes can be valuable. The fact that he's intent on hitting the market, his worth is a little down. You're gonna get double the return if you deal him before the season. Once the receiving team cannot get draft comp, the worth drops
  8. http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2014/10/18/hitting-coaches-blamed-for-lack-offense/5I4fqkhNWnM739C7hxNl2O/story.html So, looks like Cespedes is on the block. The guy isn't being a "team player". Regardless, the guy would be better suited to play out his season in Fenway to maximize his value. He's a 30HR hitter in Fenway.
  9. You've got plenty of injury concerns. If some of them play out come opening day, he'll be playing. People like him because he brings elite D in the OF. When you have a 4th OFer, typically defense and then speed are requirements. He has the D and has enough speed to be useful on the bases
  10. There is no f***ing way the Reds deal their ace who is under contract for 2015 for a guy with one yr of control and two sucky starters. No way.
  11. These Royals are good. They remind me of the 87 Cards and they were put together akin to the 96 Yankees. Enough offense, good defense, good starting rotation, good speed, lights out pen
  12. I think he's gonna get 200 or so. He'll probably make the opening day roster due to someone being hurt and then will be starting after the ASB when the sox deal away some contract yr talent
  13. Yankees apparently not in on Tomas. f***ing stupid. We fired Long and Kelleher, but retained Cashman for 3 yrs. Sounds like our director of player development, Mark Newman, is "retiring" as well.
  14. That's a pretty ignorant comment. I think Jeter having to deal with ARod and showing class is a boon to his legacy.
  15. Miller is likely looking at a bottom of 3 yrs $24 mil (Benoit's deal plus one yr) and a top of 5yrs $55 mil (BJ Ryan). He's gonna be signed as a closer. If he is signed as your closer, then so be it. I highly, highly, highly doubt he's a red sox next yr
  16. Look at your OF for 2015... Cespedes, Castillo, Betts, Craig, Victorino Cespedes is an impending FA and could be dealt by mid season if the sox suck again. Castillo hasn't played continuous baseball for 3 years, he's probably not playing 162 next yr. Betts is probably going to be in your IF next yr Craig and Victorino cannot stay healthy. I find it hard to believe that Bradley gets moved because he at the very least offers elite D as a 4th OFer. 2015 will be his final option yr, so he wont be part of a roster crunch if he has to get moved down. And chances are, he spends significant time in your OF in 2015.
  17. Exactly. You have only one other "veteran" under contract in the rotation and that is swing guy Kelly. Buch is also coming off a -1.6WAR season and had the highest ERA of anyone in baseball who threw 170IP or more, and it wasn't even close. He is also being paid $11 mil in 2015. You have to ride with him and see if you can flip him at mid season. If he comes out in April and May and sucks ass, he might be cut
  18. Puig isn't getting traded. He's the best player on that team and he's 23, not even in his prime yet. He's signed for 4 more yrs at ridiculously cheap money. You'd have to deal away so much to get him that it would set you back 5 yrs developmentally
  19. The Royals just look so natural out there, almost like theyre too dumb to understand the enormity of their situation. Good luck to them. They remind me of the 87 Cards
  20. You guys do know that they eventually figured out the whole numbness thing, right? While in LA, he was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome and was operated on
  21. You have no idea if Swihart is gonna hit at the big league level, though. Temper your expectations. Also, giving up on Bogaertd this early is asinine Fred. Most kids his age are getting drafted, not playing in the bigs
  22. Scoscia is stuck because he's been forced by his FO into the 3 run homer approach.
  23. Maybe as a broadcaster. I'm sure he could be better than Waldman
  24. Scoscia is a great manager. His problem is, he is managing the wrong team. When the Angels won the WS and were a tough out altogether, they didn't have a middle of the order with thumpers. They had guys who could run, made good contact, had good defense and lockdown relief. Scoscia would thrive a la Ned Yost with a Royals team from this yr. Currently, he's hamstrung with big contracts of guys who aren't producing
  25. He's the alternative to Lester. You want to see what hamels would get on the open market, see what Lester gets. And before you go on about his postseason performance, Hamels has been just as good and actually won an NLCS MVP and a World Series MVP in 08
