So the Yankees are near the halfway point and I keep hearing about the trade rumors. We're interested in Headley, Samardzija, Hammel, etc. Here in lies the problem. We have too many holes to fill to win the title. I don't want to be giving away prospects for guys who are fill ins who may help us make a playoff berth. I want to bring in the final pieces of a title team, not sell the farm to bow out in the WC game. We need at least 2 starters. Yes, CC is on his way back. But he was absolutely abhorrent when he was in the rotation. Not sure how much of that was his current injury, but that is a chronic process, not something likely to go away entirely. So, although he is in the wings, he isn't too much to get excited about. We also have Pineda out there somewhere. He's been dominant in the 6 starts he made. But that's it. Who knows what we have in him and he cannot be counted on. Losing Nova was a big time blow in retrospect. So we'd need 2 starters.
Then there is our offense. We thought we fixed the gaping hole in RF and DH with Beltran and Soriano coming in. Both have sucked. We thought that if we could get health from Roberts, he could be a good contributor. Well, he's sucked too. I thought McCann would make a big time power surge in the new YS. He's sucked dick offensively. 3b has seen Solarte come back to earth and Kelly Johnson suck ass also. Our offense has pretty much been predicated around Ells and Gardner with a smattering of Jeter thrown in there. Putrid. Yes, Headley would be an upgrade in theory, but he is a FA after 2014 and is dealing with a bulging disc that will need offseason surgery. Not to mention the fact that he would technically be a downgrade if he continued to post his anemic #s from SD. We need a #2, 4, and 5 in the rotation and a #3,4,5 hitter. Not too much to ask for, right?
