  1. This is one of the issues with throwing millions at 16 yr olds. The drive in some is destroyed.
  2. Montero's raw hitting skill is still impressive. You just can't predict how a kids mental makeup will change as they age . He was considered lazy but direct able in NY. Since going to Seattle, he's become an egomaniac who has gained 50-70 pounds based on reports. Raw skills don't make you a big leaguer anymore. Hard work, study, and maturity take that raw skill and turn you into a player. We definitely won that trade
  3. TJS has a 12-18 month recovery time with many teams adopting a 15-18 month recovery. The Yankees are among the most cautious when it comes to their minor leaguers going through it. So when they found the injury in July, it wasn't going to change much if he was operated on before or after the rehab. The thing is, the rehab failed. Fix the thing now so he should be completely recovered come 2016
  4. Tanaka experienced soreness in his forearm after his sim game. They're shutting him down. But they say they don't have any doc visits set up. Soreness in the forearm is a f***ing sign of a torn UCL. Just get him in the OR already. This rehab is over. Fix the f***ing thing so he can be ready in 2016
  5. Chris Capuano has been solid for us. Ellsbury has been on fire. 14HR, 37 SB. Not bad
  6. You guys are falling for the propaganda. Building from within takes time and also takes incredibly shrewd management. It took 10 yr for TB to build and they had top 5 picks each yr that decade. It took Pitt 20 yrs. The sox, meanwhile, are charging the highest ticket prices in baseball a and are crying poverty. Most people decrying the big contracts look at the whole contract instead of what it really is. Payment for half a contract of production and half for mediocrity. That's the going rate of business. If you want to fall for the propaganda, go for it. That's what Henry and Co want
  7. Also, it's never a good thing for the sox when their needs and the Yankees needs align in an offseason
  8. Not sure if you watched Pineda last night, pine tar free as well. And Tanaka isn't a sure thing in 2015, as his elbow might require surgery. That being said, we've had some good work from Phelps and Greene this yr, enough to consider them depth if healthy. But you're right, we're gonna need at least one top tier acquisition and at least one back end one to stay competitive next yr
  9. Dupree, put the Kool-Aid down and jump back to reality. You need to pitch to "go far". Right now, the only guys on your roster who are staring at a rotation spot are.... 1. De la Rosa- K rate not akin to a power pitcher, lots of walks of late, more hits than innings pitched. He has the stuff, but does he become a Doubront type pitcher or does he take the next step? 2. Clay Buchholz- He pitched great tonight, but he's been pretty terrible all year long. Counting on him to be a key cog is concerning to say the least 3. Joe Kelly- this guy is a reliever who isn't cut out for AL pitching. 4. Alan Webster- I think he saw his shadow, he decided to hide 5. Brandon Workman- guy is a beast in the pen, but sucks as a starter The only player on your current roster who I can see being a good starter in 2015 is De la Rosa, because he has dominant stuff and has been inconsistent akin to most rookies. The other 4 are hot messes. Yes, I know you have Ranaudo and Owens in the minors, but neither of them are locks to produce or stay healthy in the bigs. You are going to need 3-4 starters off the trade or FA market to be good in 2015
  10. There have been no players linked to steroids who have gotten into the HOF. Some of the best players of all time have been left out. Heck, guys who aren't even linked, but some people think may have used aren't in (Bagwell). Also, no primary DH's are in the HOF. Guys like Baines and Edgar Martinez belong in the HOF based on offensive contributions. He has to clear two hurdles that, to this point, haven't been cleared
  11. Koji has officially fallen off the map. Might have been best to deal him when his value was high
  12. Here is the interesting thing with Jackie Bradley Jr. The guy posted a positive WAR while having an OPS under .600 at an outfield position. That is very difficult to do. If he can hit .250 with an OPS approaching .700, she would actually be worth more than two wins per year. They don't want him to be hitting home runs, they want him to be making better contact and putting the ball in play to where he can reach base. They sent him down to rework his swing so that he no longer goes for the home run. The fact that he already cranked one out so quickly shows that he is not taking to that new approach.
  13. Bradley hitting a HR isn't a good thing, btw. They want him to start hitting liners and hard grounders and get away from the HR swing.
  14. He's a guy who is strong as hell for such a small body. They said Brett Gardner type with power, although not sure how they can rate his D as he was mostly an infielder in Cuba and is being projected as an OF with the sox
  15. This is why the prospect game is so difficult. This isn't a measurables sport. Having a good fastball is about the only true measurable. Guys can dominate some levels and suck at others. You can be 5'6" and be an MVP candidate. You can be country strong and suck.
  16. I think they might actually try to get him back to see if he needs TJS. Here's the deal, if he needs TJS, doing it now or in September doesn't change anything. 2015 would be cooked for him regardless. If he comes back this yr and dominates as usual and stays healthy, then he might actually heal enough to make it through 2015.
  17. Ellsbury hasn't been our problem. He's gonna have a lower WAR than last yr, but he'll be over 3. He and Gardner have been solid. It's the other 7 spots in the lineup that suck
  18. Edmonds was the guy who made the most spectacular plays, but Jones before he got fat was the best I'd seen. I'd also throw a young Mike Cameron and Griffey Jr in there
  19. Xander is a kid, and kids are typically rather emotional. He was riding high until Drew came along. Now, he cant seem to find it again. I wonder if this is a minor blip or if they may have ruined him. That being said, if moving a player to 3b ruins them, then their mettle is put into question immediately. The funny thing is, this yr really hit the sox farm system. While everyone was on the balls of all involved in the sox minor leagues, they haven't played well
  20. Shane Greene is definitely putting himself in line for a starting gig in 2015
  21. Pal, Tulo has been transcendent when healthy. Hanley has had one amazing season in the last 6, and it happened to be an injury plagued season.
  22. Hanley is not a perennial 4-5 WAR player. Like I said before, he's on a downturn in his career. He had an 86 game blip last yr. other than that, he hasn't been a 5 WAR player since 2009. And this isn't a guy to compare vs ellsbury. Jacoby had two injuries due to collisions. Otherwise, he's been durable. Hanley hasn't been durable and misses time with tweaks and pulls all the time. He's an injury prone, poor fielding hitter already on the decline. He's gonna get paid, but there won't be one "stupid owner" to give him more than $15 mil a yr for more than 5 yrs
  23. Drew will cost 10-15 mil per year? Really? The guy who isn't hitting .200 can command 8 figures annually? That's wrong and you know it. He'd be lucky to get a $5 mil salary next yr. My bet is that we sign him for another pillow contract, 1 yr $5 mil. There is no way on God's green earth that a soon to be 31 yr old SS who can't stay on the field nets $25 mil a yr. Are you serious with that? His OPS' the last 3 yrs are as follows.. 2011- .712 2012- .759 2013- 1.040 2014- .822 He's played 130 game or more once since 2010 and his amazing OPS last yr came in 86 games. Hanley isn't sniffing $20 mil a yr. He likely isn't sniffing $15 mil a yr. There is a reason why LA is letting him hit the market, he has an unreasonable level of worth for himself. I doubt NY signs him. Replacing Kuroda is where the Yanks will spend their cash. They might go hard after both Scherzer and Lester since I think Tanaka is likely out for 2015 after TJS We don't have to replace Robertson. We have a closer in the wings on the cheap right now in Betances and that is the one thing we are flush with in the system. We have high end relief prospects. That is what we pretty much own. I think KRob walks with a QO that allows us to recoup a pick. With a cooler head, I can tell you that we might roll into the yr with Rob Refsnyder manning 2b, to be honest. The kid has hit everywhere he has gone. But I might be willing to let Headley walk by now. The guy lost his power. We move Prado to 3b, move Beltran to RF and apparently AFraud is ready to roll, which I doubt significantly. The players on offense aren't there this offseason.
  24. Ending interleague play is impossible with 15 teams in each league.
  25. You have a bigger problem short term. We have a bigger problem long term in terms of getting back to winning
