  1. This is just weird. Their lineup as it was constructed was pretty good. Good enough, IMO, to be a top 10 offense again. The problem is, the sox pitching staff is dead. You've got 5 open slots in the rotation. Buchholz and Kelly suck, no rookie stood out. You need 5 new starters. And you didn't get any in the first $170+ million spent in FA
  2. This is AMAZING! You guys just got a fat, overrated near average third baseman for major money and just spent a metric ton of cash on a chronically injured converted SS to play LF for the first time in his life. I f***ING LOVE these moves. I cannot wait for the next one. I hope you seal the trifecta and spend a boatload of prospects and cash to get Tyson Ross.
  3. This is great! Sox sign a beat up non SS whose bat kinda fell off this yr and they're signing an overweight 3b who doesn't hit well and both will be on the books at big money for the next 5 seasons? This is very good, and I'm a Yankee fan.
  4. Cano played a premium position and Pujols was the best player in the game for a decade before he was signed. Stanton may be that in 6 yrs and if so, he opts out. But he would need to be a top 3 player in the game to opt out. That's massive money
  5. So the dummy who said that Hanley and the sox had a deal is wrong, but there is definitely some smoke in that direction via rotoworld. The sox want both Hanley and Sandoval? Are they racing to sign the two guys who are probably the highest risk to not be worth their contracts? Hanley cannot play D as a SS and cannot stay on the field and Panda doesn't hit well and cannot avoid the buffet table
  6. This sounds like bunk
  7. I actually don't think he will opt out after seeing the content of the deal. He's getting $10 mil per year for the next 3 yrs and an average of $18 mil a yr through year 6, which is the last yr before the opt out. The last 7 seasons are worth a whopping $217 million, or $31 mil a year. There would need to be a massive change in MLB finances for a 31 yr old to opt out of a 7 yr $217 mil deal.
  8. I heard the Padres made the biggest offer. I hope that is untrue. I want him on the sox. He'll make you better in 2015, but he's a guy primed to be a salary anchor starting soon
  9. I have been saying all along that the Yankees are gonna be in on Lester and will likely offer him the highest AAV and total cash. The question is, will he accept less to go elsewhere. Scherzer is waiting for insane money AND comes with pick compensation/loss. Add in the fact that Scherzer isn't the post season ace Lester is and you have a guy who should get the biggest offseason pitching contract. Right now, we know that the sox have a deal on the table. The rumor is that it's 6 yrs $110 mil or so. If that contract is their final offer, he goes elsewhere. I can see NYY offering 6 yrs $150 mil.
  10. I would be surprised if the Yanks are outbid to be honest with you.
  11. Heyman, the Boras mouthpiece, says the Yankees are looking at Scherzer. I don't believe it for a second.
  12. You're drinking the Kool Aid. Like I said, the last 3 yrs they have nearly the exact same OPS, and that is with Headley playing 2.5 of those 3 seasons in Petco
  13. I am absolutely stunned that you'd go with Panda over Headley. Stunned. Headley moves to NY and puts up a better OPS than Sandoval had. He also has nearly the same WAR the last 3 seasons. Headley will cost about half what the Panda will get
  14. This is the one FA signing I really, really hope the sox make. And that is never good for the sox. Sign him for 7 or 8 years please.
  15. I actually like McCann, didn't like the Ells signing and hated the Beltran move. I think Moncada is the type of player who comes around for just cash once in a lifetime. We need a new franchise SS and this kid is the guy. I know we have to pay double to get him, but f*** it, do it
  16. I think the Cardinals saw they made the NLCS with their second best pitcher on the shelf and with Miller pretty much a mop up guy. They always seem to covet the defensive players and Heyward was arguably the best defensive OFer in the game last yr. Hitters thrive outside Hot-lanta and pitchers blossom with the Braves. This might be one of those good for both kind of moves
  17. gojohn, I think the Marlins are fairly confident in him option out after year 5. As long as Stanton is still good, he will opt out after year 5. They assumed all the risk here, because if he has a serious decline, they'll be completely f***ed. I assume they are going to be insuring this policy for injury.
  18. You're insane dude. You have to give up something to get established aces. We're not talking Brandon McCarthy here. We're talking two of the best NL pitchers over the last 5 seasons. Cueto has been dominant and is still young. Getting him now allows for extension talks and a QO if he flies. Hamels is a lefty ace who turns 31, but has a reasonable (in today's market) 4 yrs left on his contract. Either deal would start with Betts. I know he's a solid talent, but you have to give up something to get established aces.
  19. I want Moncada as well. Rickie Weeks is done, and we have Prado and Refsnyder for 2b. No interest there
  20. Guys, I apologize. I forgot that Betts is gonna be a 20X all star like Lars Anderson
  21. Stanton gets the length never given to any player in baseball history. He gets a no trade, pretty much guaranteeing he won't ever go to a situation he isn't comfortable with. He gets an opt out should the market rise tremendously in 5 yrs. and he gets $25 mil per. Barring injury or inconsistency, he's opting out after 5 yrs and getting a bigger 8 yr deal
  22. This is the best thing that ever happened to Stanton.
  23. And Betts for Strasburg is downright laughable.
  24. You're not really seeing reality here. Betts for Cueto is a six overpay? When is dealing a SSS big leaguer with promise for an established ace an overpay? Unf***ingbelievable. Dealing for any of those guys right now is gonna cost a fortune due to QO return. The worth goes down at mid season. And I am sorry I used tweener the way I did. Ive used it in a few different ways because I've seen it used in a few different ways. I've seen it used to describe a AAAA player, which Betts doesn't look to be. I've also seen it used as a guy like Prado, who doesn't really have a set position and plays all over the diamond, but is in the lineup regularly. Also, how do we know he's a plus defender at 2b? If he was a slick gloveman, wouldn't they at least be considering him at 3b?
  25. There is definitely versatility. It definitely helps his case. But I called him a tweener because of his position. I think he ends up as a Prado type player, which is an excellent player, but still a tweener
