  1. The pieces you're gonna want to sell will all pass through waivers. So Sept 1 is the real deadline for you
  2. Mitchell was drafted by NY and Severino was a 16 yr old IFA
  3. Well, at least NY is making it interesting. CC goes down with dehydration and Pineda goes out with a forearm strain. My expectation is that Pineda is out for about a month. My bet is CC misses a turn, and not due to health. Because he sucks. I thought we'd be getting a shiny new toy under the tree, instead, we get 2 prospects with huge arms to take their place. Bryan Mitchell will likely take CC's spot and top prospect Luis Severino will take Pineda's spot. I know Mitchell can light up the gun and look absolutely dominant at times, while also wilting at times at weird spots in the game. But Severino is our E-Rod. He's a right handed guy with apparent solid command of a mid 90s fastball and a devastating changeup. His slider is apparently average at this point with the potential for plus. I am excited to see this kid come up after the deadline, mostly because that means we aren't showcasing him for a deadline deal. I honestly think this is a move for this and next season. If he comes up and sucks over the next 3-4 starts, then we'll have no recourse but to dominate the FA market when it comes to arms. But if he comes up and shows what a lot of us prospect guys hope to see, then he could be a long term answer to a major developmental problem for us. We have develop pitching, some very good pitching, but we haven't developed an ace since Pettitte. I want to see that happen
  4. Collosally disappointing deadline for NY
  5. Meh, I don't think Cash believes in the team enough to part with his prospects. I'm ok with that, but it definitely puts a damper on our success. Pineda is now out for at least 2 weeks, probably more like a month. But as I type this, more and more pitchers are coming off the market.
  6. There are inherent problems in the sox search for pitching. They don't want to part with prospects, so they're not getting top young talent under team control. They aren't willing to pay the money to get FA talent because they're unwilling to assume the risk at the end of the contract. The only method then to get ace talent is to develop it or to find the "diamond in the rough". The player that has the tools but hasn't shown the aptitude yet, with the hopes that the move to Boston and good coaching will unlock their potential. This is a small market philosophy and one of the reasons why teams like the Astros, Pirates, and Royals had to suck for so long before they could become good. The sox seem perfectly willing to throw bad money into their offense, not sure why they aren't willing to try and spend on their staff. You'll see if there's a shift in the paradigm this offseason, with so much pitching talent available to sign
  7. I would love to have Tanaka starting the second game of the playoffs. We need a top to this rotation, especially if we go against KC or the great staff in Houston. I want Price
  8. Put the Pom poms away kimmi. You're saddled with over $60 mil AAV of contracts for the next 4 years with players who are producing 0WAR in year 1. That isn't a small amount of cash to be dragging your team down. You have no pitching to choose from aside from ERod and he is still a rook. And while you haven't dealt away your chips, you haven't had the opportunity because your team sucked. The dismantling of your rotation will end up being your downfall and quite possibly impossible to replace with the current mandate from above
  9. Thunder, you missed drama on the mound. Pedro was must see TV at a time when I was living in Mass for the first time. I hated him, but his pitching feats were amazing. The guy has the power of a Clemens yet the control And smarts of a Maddux. And he was a showman. I loved it when we beat him and cursed his name when we couldn't. I still cannot believe he has been out of a sox uni for 11 years. Feels like yesterday the Posada bloop fell in...
  10. Meh, my concern is that we are relying on a guy with a partial tear in his UCL as an ace and a guy with a reconstructed shoulder as the #2. Neither player has seen 200IP as a big leaguer. Eovaldi is a 5 inning pitcher. Nova is post TJS, so who the f*** knows how he'll be the rest of the way. We need 4 starters for the post season. CC is out. Warren is no longer stretched out. I'd like to add one more name to that list, a name that would absolutely make the list. While I'd like Hamels, we don't NEED him. We need one more reliable arm. Also, it is lovely watching how our offense is just absolutely beating the f*** out of the Rangers. 15 runs 6 outs. Who cares that Capuano shat the bed, lol, he's about to be cut
  11. They build a farm system of position player prospects and then blocked them with dumb moves. Devers is a 3b, but now you have Panda. Margot is a CF, but they spent $72 mil on Castillo to play there (at the time).
  12. You hit the ump with equipment and you're getting tossed.
  13. Triple, triple, double.
  14. FA deals are basically made the with first half in mind except for the unknowns like Cubans or Japanese. You really cannot build an entire rotation via FA. 1 or 2 guys from there is totally fine, but an entire rotation via FA basically means you'll be competitive for half the contracts. There are also certain players and certain ages where shelling out the cash is worth it. I think Price fits that category. Not sure if Cueto does.
  15. You only deal ERod if you get a young pitcher in return. I'd try to center around him to get a guy like Harvey
  16. As it stands right now, the sox are tied for 4th worst record in baseball. My bet is you're gonna sink further as pieces get sold off. If you have the third or fourth pick in the draft, you can draft a future all star with a high floor. You want the pick now as your team has no hope
  17. Pedroia back to the 15 day DL
  18. Kimmi, Swihart has the goods to catch. You move guys off the position when the position is either too tough for them physically or if they really aren't that good of a catcher. Swihart will at least be an average defensive catcher and at his age, his body can handle it. Plus, RSN wouldn't tolerate him at 1b as of right now as he's probably going to take a couple years to develop his power. And if you're watching the next 2 years and see a total of 16 or so homers from him over that time, then you'll be complaining about how he cant hit. My assumption is that they're going to do a time share, a la Yankees in 97-98 with Posada and Girardi. It took a few years for Jorge to really establish himself, but it was under the tutelage of Girardi. If it's Vasquez and Swihart, there wont be tutelage, it'd be two guys trying to win the job outright, which could be a good thing. If Vasquez wins the job with his glove, then you can get a lot of Blake in trade
  19. Vasquez is a defensive whiz from the getgo. Swihart is more the offensive type. Most offensive rookies don't start out gangbusters, they usually start out slow and eventually adjust. It was easier to see Vasquez's skill because his D is nearly a finished product. They are going to have an interesting decision to make in the offseason. Swihart is ready. So is Christian. Who do they start and do they move one of them?
  20. AGon said that Hanley would make a good 1b from their time in LA. He's a guy who is used to having his feet in the dirt not the grass. Convince him to work on 1b over the winter and intensely work with him in ST and he should at least be serviceable there. He is a former SS for god sakes, the guy should be able to handle it
  21. Betts, Bogaerts, E-Rod and Swihart are probably your only untouchables
  22. Kimmi, are you having Cherington's love child or something? The GM makes the final say on personnel decisions. He decided to move on from Ellsbury after 2013, allowing JBJ to take over. Well, JBJ was a disaster and Ells has basically continued his typical performance in pinstripes. Now, I can't fault him for not offering 7 years to Ells, but replacing him with JBJ was a bad baseball decision He decided to bring back Drew 3 months into the season, which caused Bogaerts to tank and basically lose a year of development. You're lucky you didn't lose Bogey, as he has rebounded. He signed Rusney to a $72 mil deal and he's still in Pawtucket because he lacks any semblance of baseball fundamentals He dealt away Jon Lester for Cespedes when it became clear he f***ed up the negotiations. He then failed to re-sign Lester after publicly stating their intent to "try". He then deals Cespedes to Detroit, where he has a monster year. He received Porcello, a chronic middling SP coming off one good year, extends him for near $100 mil before he throws a pitch on the Fenway mound and watches him die in a Red Sox uniform. He deals Lackey to StL with a year and a half of control left, only to watch him continue his run of dominance. He gets a broken down OF with a big contract who is now in Pawtucket only because nobody else wants him. You also get Joe Kelly, who has been absolutely demolished in the bigs this year, also spending some time in AAA. He rounds out the rotation by dealing for Wade Miley, extending him before he throws a pitch, and watches him be a major clubhouse cancer while showing middling numbers in a sox uniform. He adds Masterson for nearly $10 mil after the guy couldn't crack two teams' rotations last year and after seeing a massive drop in velocity from the year before He signs Sandoval for huge money based on playoff success and has watched his D devolve and his O stifle to the point where he has to give up switch hitting. He signs Hanley to huge money to play a new position forgetting that the guy is a huge clubhouse cancer, lacks attitude or motivation. His O has basically provided only power and his D has been awful. And this year, holding onto Buchholz too long likely cost them a chance to get a very nice prospect haul. As it stands, I think he walks in FA. Counter that with the only good move I see, as dealing Miller for E-Rod looks good long term, even though Miller is absolutely dominant at present
  23. Porcello v verlander tomorrow will be a grudge match of has been v never was.
