  1. I would like to at least throw some evidence behind my predictions here
  2. UN is correct. My theory is that only 10% of people are left handed but a lot more than 10% of pitchers are lefty, hence your not really sampling the strongest arms as much as your selecting for the handedness. I also think you lose a little in translation when a lefty learns how to throw from a righty coach
  3. I said you'd be fighting for the playoffs but miss out and finish around .500. I can't really puff my chest out about 2/3 of that prediction, but I love the part about missing playoffs
  4. This might be the worst sox team I've ever seen. Wow. I love Justin Masterson
  5. Spud with the post of the thread, lol
  6. I like his breaking ball, but his fastball is flat. He's not a cure for what ails you
  7. After today, sox will be tied with Seattle for worst team in AL
  8. Cueto was throwing mid 90s yesterday, so I doubt he was hurt. This is a tough time for guys on the block. Boone was talking about it last week or so on the radio. You know you're gonna get dealt, you don't know where and you have 72 hours to pack your s*** and get there. The mental aspect is the toughest
  9. And spit, if you want to play the game, you have to pay the fare. Getting an ace forces you to either develop an ace, which means years of watching success and failure until consistency develops, or signing one to big money usually at a concerning age or dealing away prospect loads for one. You have to pick one if you want an ace
  10. Spitball, we spent the money on Tanaka expecting an ace. Seeing Pineda and Tanaka perform last year emboldened Cashman to shore up our D up the middle and our cash situation made us shy away from adding a Scherzer. Eovaldi is a guy pitching coaches drool about. Warren was actually very, very good as a first year starter. Nova was coming back as well. Our rotation was built on potential that was actually attainable. We've had some hits and some misses
  11. You need a top of the rotation arm. Mike Leake is a continuation of the same rotation building approach that failed you this year. And if he sucks in a homer dome like the GAB, how's he gonna do in the Fens?
  12. Didn't he need "peace of mind" about his shoulder too? He sounds like a gigantic wimp.
  13. If you get a front line starter, you better get one that will be around for 2016 and beyond, because you're done this yr
  14. Starting to create some separation now in the division. We need to allow CC, Nova and Eovaldi to earn their spots over the next 13 days and we need to be willing to upgrade them if they don't. I am of the belief that we need one more playoff starter behind Tanaka and Pineda. I think Nova or Eovaldi could be the 4th guy, but we really need a third. I don't think emptying the farm for a Cueto is the best option, but getting a Samardzija might be the ticket
  15. Sk, depending on the year, he'll use proximity over ceiling. His criteria changes practically on the fly. And while any pitcher has the potential to be a reliever, can he give a single iota of a reason as to why Luis is destined for the pen?
  16. Kumbaya my lord, kumbaya
  17. Are you expecting an acquisition or for the corpses to reanimate?
  18. Law is such a semen slurper, it blows my f***ing mind. One year he sucks the balls of every prospect who is near the top and the next he's throwing top 15 IN ALL OF BASEBALL out there for guys in low A or A ball. I don't f***ing get this guy. And it isn't like he's scouting them. It seems as if he calls a random exec, asks them about their helium prospects and if he gets a blowy in the bathroom, he'll throw them on the top 50. The omission of Severino is damn near criminal here.
  19. Our bullpen has been a gigantic part of our success. And while the overall pen ERA is actually rather pedestrian, the bulls in the pen when the game is close are as good as they go. We are basically led by 2 top notch starters and one guy who keeps us in games, usually with short outings, and unexplained phenomenal run support (Eovaldi). Our offense and pen are more a reason for us being in first than our rotation. Regardless, having a top two of Tanaka and Pineda really helps abate big losing streaks, and there is no coincidence that our long losing stretch came when we skipped Pineda and Tanaka was on the DL
  20. Final signing is Kaprielian. We signed 31 of our 41 and 25 of our first 26. While I hated the Holder pick, and still do, we definitely got a lot of big league talent. Kap will be in AA this time next year and I have a feeling Chance Adams will be knocking on the door as well.
  21. He's been better his last 6 starts. He was walking the park April and May. Maybe he's turned a corner. I also was hearing his FB velo was down, and that is what made a lot of scouts sour on him as a top of the rotation pitcher
  22. The walk rate is way up and the K rate is way down for Owens.
  23. Gray is a current Cy Young candidate
  24. For some reason I thought Kaz had another year on his deal. That being said, Owens has taken a major step back this year, so if you want a top flight rental, dealing him won't get you what it would have last year
