  1. The sox have the 12th pick in the draft next year and it is not protected. While the process of winning late in the year probably gives you some confidence into next yr, it really does nothing in the long run aside from potentially cost you your first rounder.
  2. So it is Keuchel on short rest vs a rusty Tanaka. This could be very interesting. While I like the Astros story, I am obviously hoping their 2015 campaign comes to a close on Tuesday. I think this team has basically coasted since losing 3 of 4 in Toronto and basically ceding the division. I hope they can turn it back on for a long run into the post season
  3. Hanley has been a cancer everywhere he had gone. It is not surprising nor groundbreaking to assume he brought the same malignant attitude to the sox.
  4. Maybe they did play over their heads. That being said, they outlasted a bunch of teams expected to be a lot better and clinched a PO spot. That's all you need to do. Get in and see if you can win.
  5. And Pal, why is that? You've had 2 big cheats on your team for 2 of your wins. Do they get a * too?
  6. My one concern would be facing Keuchel in a one gamer
  7. How many people had the Yanks in the playoffs on this site aside from me? Hmmmmmm? It is somewhat miraculous that a team who loses its best hitter with 6 weeks to play and has seen its former ace crumble into a 5th starter can somehow turn out enough wins to enter the post season. We just have to take that wild card game and we'll be the team nobody wants to play. We have the potential to have elite front end pitching and all games will be 5 innings with our pen. We just need to hit enough to win. Should be fun!
  8. I don't think so YOTN. We might be making some deals or promoting from within, but I don't see a huge FA signing if the comments from the FO are accurate. For a farm system that was touting as 21st in baseball, we have gotten some solid production out of Bird and Severino plus some pen arms as well. And this is without Refsnyder, Sanchez, Judge or Heathcott playing a big role. My hope is that we continue our turnover next year and see a Refsnyder/Ackley platoon at 2b, Heathcott get the 4th OFer gig and find a way to get Bird in the lineup
  9. We really are crashing into the finish. 5 games to go and we need to win 2 of them or hope for another team to lose. Here's to hoping Tanaka can hold it together. One task for Cash this offseason will be to make this team a little more durable. No clue how he does it
  10. The Yankees have had a VERY effective strategy for getting relievers, but it limits our boom or bust prospects. We usually select a couple high velocity arms in the Round 5-10 range who don't have projection as a starter, but have top end reliever potential. And we have hit on a fair amount of those selections. Those are usually the spots where some teams will take higher upside players who might be signability cases or starters. But we take relievers. And it has worked to this point
  11. Prior to his injury, he was hitting .330 and was stealing bags left and right. He suffered a knee injury. He is noticeably slower since returing and is almost incapable of turning on pitches. He isn't right.
  12. Spud, he's going to get a long leash. While the system is deep, the crap on the field in the Fens is putrid and the contracts handed out last offseason wont be easily removed. Dombrowski is in the bean to do what Cherington could not. Deal from a position of strength and build a winner. Cherington dismantled a winner and has a bunch of shiny parts that don't fit together. Dombrowski has proven to be a VERY effective trader and when he inherits a loaded farm system, he should be able to make a lot of moves.
  13. Shaw reminds me of a Brian Daubach. Not really good enough to be a starter on a top notch team, but wont embarrass himself at the position. If his glove could play at 3b, he would definitely be starter worthy, but I don't think it does
  14. a700, I bet you will see Tanaka go 5 or 6 and then Wilson, Betances, Miller. No need to fix what aint broke
  15. Bellhorn, Ellsbury is CLEARLY not right. I bet you will hear about arthroscopic surgery of some kind come the end of our season. And Chris Young is mashing lefties. For the rest of the yr, it makes sense to platoon him. Ells needs to get right in the off-season and give it a go again next yr
  16. They are handling him with the kindest of kid gloves. If they are letting him throw, he is close to 100%. Not worried about his health for that game. Plus, he has another start prior to it to test it out. And yeah, it is an all hands on deck situation for that game. The good thing is, the Stros are falling out of it and they are the one team that I think can outpitch us in a 1 gamer. We cannot hit Keuchel. I am hoping for the Twins or Angels.
  17. Tanaka is ready to take his turn in the rotation now that his hammy has improved. He should be lined up for the WC start. It will be his biggest start in a Yankee uniform
  18. Stroman is the Jays answer to Severino. Young, hard throwing righty with lights out stuff. That kid has a bright future. I was hoping to take 2 of 3. Getting 5 shutout innings from Nova should have signaled Girardi to go with the best of the best, not Pazos and Cotham. That game last night ended the ALE race. Good thing we have a solid grip on the Wild Card
  19. I am not sold on Wade. He's a Brendan Ryan type to me. He doesn't possess the speed to steal bags at the big league level and he doesn't have any power to speak of. Fowler is a 4.5 tool player. I like him but want to see how he does against top notch competition. I love Jagielo and Sanchez, although I think Jags is the first to go in a trade. Bird is better as a 1b prospect and Jags is basically a 1b playing third.
  20. The problem is, where do you put him? Ellsbury is starting to look like his normal self. Beltran is hitting the s*** out of the ball. Gardner is probably our best all around OFer. And usually, our 4th OFer hits vs lefties and Heathcott is a lefty. My bet is he works in as a 4th OFer next yr.
  21. If you want to get a top of the line starter like Harvey, you cannot use lottery tickets. They're going to want MLB ready or proven talent in return. They aren't the Mutts of 3-4 yrs ago when they were doormats. They're legit WS contenders this yr
  22. BTW, the sox are in line for the 11th pick in the draft! Stay right there guys! mvp, are you talking about Harvey? The guy who has thrown 171IP, has a 2.88ERA, a 1.02WHIP and nearly a K per inning? That guy coming off TJS would be a huge get for your team
  23. Arod coming up huge. Heathcott is a solid prospect, his major issue is that he doesn't stay healthy. Huge win for us. Hopefully we get some momentum out of it
  24. And Tanaka salvaged a game. We've lost our best hitter and probably our hottest pitcher for the rest of the regular season. We played over our head this year. I hope we can get into the great crapshoot and get hot
