  1. There is too much smoke and Cash isn't the one sending smoke signals. We can move forward as is, but our playoff rotation will be pretty light. We need someone to grab hold of the 5 spot. Cessa hasn't. Mitchell hasn't. I like Smith and am glad he's slotted to start one more time, but I'm not convinced he's the answer either. I am hoping Chance Adams moves up, but there's been no inclination that the Yankees are doing that. With how bad Tanaka has been, the Yankees need to worry about 2 rotation slots and after getting a gift from the prospect fairy this year and seeing Sevy turn into an ace and JMont into a reliable starter, I'm not sure we can ask for more big league development this season. I think we'll nab someone, but I doubt it'll be on the level of a Gray or Darvish. I could see us get Garcia from the Twins who'd be more a back end starter who can eat some innings before the lockdown pen comes in. This team is very intriguing and these next few days will be fun
  2. Interesting game. Girardi's pen confidence had him pull CC early and he got burned taking a 3-2 lead and turning it into a 5-3 deficit. But as with the typical performance of the pen, they go 5 shutout innings from there and the O gets it back. The depth of this pen is clearly abnormal. I like the move to burn Chap for two innings. It means DRob is fresh to close tomorrow. Green and Chap will be out tomorrow. Kahnle, Warren and Betances didn't have a big workload vs the Rays and weren't used in Wednesday's win vs the Reds, so they should be available if needed tonight. Even after an 11 inning game, we should have a fresh closer in DRob and a bridge available of Warren, Betances and Kahnle. That's good, because Tanaka is throwing and who knows if good Masa will be there or bad Masa will be there
  3. We are pretty loaded in the OF. Judge, Hicks, Frazier and Fowler is a damn strong top 4. Florial is a solid prospect who could be a top 10 prospect in baseball, but we also need to consider the return. If we get 2.4 years of Gray, then we get an ace like performer during his prime without major long term, high money commitments. Gray was hurt last year and started this year on the DL. His performance this year has been pretty ace like and is actually trending up. Durability concerns will limit the package.
  4. If Price was 12-2 with a 2.50 ERA, I think most sox fans could give two shits. Since he sucked in the playoffs last year, joked about it on social media, misses time due to injury, pitches ok but not ace like on return and then acts like an ass, he's going to have some trouble winning fans over for sure. And it's different when you're reaming out Drellich, but when you go after a HOFer in Eck in the way he did, it doesn't sit well
  5. I get that he adds depth, and he should probably start at third. But why pump up Devers, promote him, then replace him during his debut?
  6. Price to Verlander is a downgrade. Verlander has looked his age this year. You need Price to be Price. You don't need a 4.6ERA Verlander. Avila is a flash in the pan. I love Wilson. But you can get more for Price if you ate money. I don't think this sox team is much more upgradable. You have a lineup that is underperforming. Your rotation has been good. Your pen has been good. Kelly should be back soon. Aside from Avila maybe bolstering your offense should you deal for him (and there's a chance he falls back to his career norms) your team with Nunez is as is. You don't have the pieces to make a big splash. You just need your team to play better
  7. It's too late to fire a manager, but unless the sox make a deep run in the playoffs, I can't see Farrell surviving to 2018. You have the best team in the ALE on paper. You have a rotation that on paper is second to none. Your pen has overachieved and you have the best closer in the league. You're offense is led by the MVP runner up from a year ago. And you're sliding at the wrong time. Farrell wasn't hand picked by DD. This sox team is one of the more undisciplined teams I've ever seen. Manny being Manny was more disciplined than this.
  8. Very strange. It's like Trump is running the Red Sox. If you bring Devers up and pump him up to the media, you'd assume they would hold on getting his replacement for a bit more than during his debut. Nunez is a very versatile piece who provides you high average and good speed with poor defense. If he starts at third tonight for you guys, then I'm officially baffled by the direction
  9. Yankees and A's getting more involved for Gray and Alonso. I haven't heard what the return package would be, but I'd assume it'd be significant.
  10. Price is a coddled, thin skinned bully who went after a HOFer who legitimately criticized the play of the sox. I am so glad that overpaid stiff isn't in NY
  11. Torres is out for the season after TJS
  12. The bottom of that order is really ugly
  13. Both are high level prospects. I think the eventual plan was for both to be out there with Judge. Frazier is must see baseball right now and really cannot come out of the lineup. Gardy and Judge aren't going anywhere. When Hicks returns, he might be 4th OFer again and Ells might be dealt away for nothing
  14. Looks like NY is doing due diligence on Gray and Darvish. NY isn't offering anything big for either as Gray has major injury history and Darvish is a rental. Nothing big to report on the 1b front. NY not offering much for Alonso at this point. We might be at the point where the team is what it is. I could see an Ellsbury deal come August with NY eating most of the contract, but that doesn't need to be consummated until Hicks returns
  15. It's a cameo. Thing is, you cannot make much of a judgement off a 5 game stint. He could light the world aflame in those 5 games and trail off. He could go 2 for 20 and then prosper after adjusting.
  16. Miggy is in serious decline
  17. I don't want him. Duda is a DH playing 1b. We already have a DH.
  18. Duda is a better hitter than Moreland. If you got Duda, he'd be your DH and Ramirez would move to 1b
  19. The guys may be young, but theyre all vets now. Betts is in his third year, Bogey in his 4th. Same with Bradley. It's not like he's letting rooks rule the roost
  20. BTW, I really, really like Clint Frazier.
  21. Hey, some guys come up and suck and then end up all stars. Just ask Aaron Judge.
  22. The difference with DD is that he goes out and gets the top of the line. He doesn't go out and get a guy who is second tier when it comes to making big trades or signings. Yeah, he'll fill his roster in with those kinds of guys, but when he puts his prospects forward, he gets the top of the line. He did that in Detroit, trading for Miggy and extending him. He signed Verlander to a big extension, who last season should have won the CY. He went out and stole Magglio Ordonez. He dealt for Scherzer and Price. He comes to Boston and signs Price, deals for Kimbrel and then deals for Sale. Star power isn't lost on him. You wont see him dealing the farm for a guy like Duda. You'll see him dealing the farm for a guy like Stanton. DD is about the big fish
  23. Betances seems like he's back. His last 7IP 4H 0ER 12K 1BB. Kahnle is a beast. DRob can pitch with anyone, even though he gave up a run yesterday. If we get Chap rolling right, we'll win games after 4
  24. Reed and Duda would cost a bit. You'd need to offer at least one top 100 prospect, I'd assume.
  25. No idea what he was doing, but yeah. Chap finishes the deal. 3 of 4. One back in the L column. This pen has been dynamite
