  1. Estrada can play and he has good makeup. He's a high average, middling power guy who picks it well at SS. The problem with him is that he doesn't really wow you with any skill unlike Torres, and Didi is ahead of him. But I could see a case where he takes over 2b at some point
  2. I am noticing this too
  3. The site has been buggy today. had a couple posts that showed up then disappeared then re-appeared
  4. Too many variables and you must remember the philosophy of TINSTAAPP. Pitchers will fade out as they have high injury and ineffectiveness rates and some will invariably move to the pen. We have a ridiculous amount of pitching talent, though. If you want to play that game, I think it's best just to see the depth chart as is Severino Montgomery They have locked up long term roles. I know JMont just went down to AAA, but it wasn't due to performance. I think they're keeping him stretched out as insurance until Sept 1 and he comes back up as a lefty reliever when rosters expand. NYY knew after getting Gray that he wasn't going to be on the PO pitching staff, and they went with veteran consistency in Garcia (we shall see). The high level wave Adams Sheffield Acevedo Adams is the most complete pitcher. All of the above sit mid to high 90s. All have at least one good secondary pitch. Adams is a 4 pitch pitcher with the best command of the bunch. Sheffield is the youngest and he's the lefty here. Acevedo has the most power. All 3 have top half of the rotation ceilings with Acevedo's ceiling is probably the highest yet toughest to reach due to his size and power The fringes of the high level Mitchell German Cessa These guys all have been on the shuttle with varying degrees of success and frustration. All have power, with Mitchell able to run it up into the high 90s. All have inconsistent secondary stuff. If either of them click, they do have the kinds of power arms that could lock down a slot, but they're being passed by the guys above A Ball Tate Perez Abreu There's more talent in A ball, but these are the giants down there. The rest need to sort themselves out as there are plenty of guys with big arms who look pen destined. Tate was drafted 4th overall in 2015 but his mechanics were all screwed up with Texas. We got him for Beltran and initially converted him to pen work. He worked on his mechanics all offseason, but had an injury that limited him out of the blocks. Since coming into the rotation in Tampa, he has been lights out. They haven't moved him aggressively because I think the Yankees just want him to have a successful year, but he's going to be fast tracked next year. He has true ace level stuff and he might end up being the best pitcher in our system if he hits his ceiling. Perez is huge with a huge fastball, good command and already a plus breaking ball. NY goes slow with the giants, so he will likely go one level at a time for this and next year. Abreu has the best velocity in the system, routinely hitting 101-102. He's also currently injured and has missed most of the season. My assumption is it is arm related and I hope if it's elbow they just fix it before we run into another Kaprielian saga The Rest Guzman Schmidt Sauer This is the pile the Yankees will draw from. We just drafted 9 out of our top 10 picks as pitchers, so guys can emerge from this at any time. Guzman we got with Abreu for McCann. He throws 100 with developing secondary stuff. He's in the NYP dominating and looking like he might jump to Tampa out the gate next year. Schmidt was a top 10 pick before needing TJS. He's noted to have a hard sinker running mid 90s with the secondary pitches and stuff to be dominant. We shall see how he does when he is healthy towards the end of next year. Sauer is the HSer we drafted who tops out at 98 with a wipeout slider. We will likely try him on the mound as a starter and see if he can work on a change.
  5. Harper is going to get a record setting contract, but he'll fashion it to maximize his return. I think his contract ends up being 10 years $330 mil with the contract being front loaded and an opt out after year three. I can see the contract being effectively two contracts. 3 years $130 mil 7 years $200 mil This would allow him to have a bonkers AAV of $43.3 mil for years 1-3 and a chance to re-enter FA as a 29 year old when the cap is higher. This would also allow a team like the Yankees to have him count as $33 mil AAV vs $43 mil he'd actually earn. The 7 years $200 mil will be an insurance policy against injury.
  6. This years Yankee team is a lot better than last and just got reinforments a week ago. They also have been pretty solid in the season series vs Boston this year too. I thought at the beginning of the year that this division was wrapped up for Boston. But this should be a dogfight for the division. We haven't had a real Yankees-Sox divisional dogfight since 2007. In the decade since, the sox were ether terrible, the Yankees mediocre, or another team in the mix at the top like TB. I love it, especially since I see us as arriving early and having much more long term trajectory
  7. Sevy shows he's the ace.
  8. Have you looked at Headley's numbers since he moved to 1b? Frazier we got for free. The guys we gave up were for DRob and Kahnle, who we control for multiple seasons. Cash has made a point in not spending major prospect capital on rentals. Our only two rental acquisitions (Garcia and Frazier) were acquired without giving up much of anything at all. At the same time, you don't make an acquisition like Frazier's and then up and replace him a week or two later. The guy has a track record and this season, he's has an otherworldly low BABIP, suggesting a correction to the norm and an improvement, which to this point hasn't happened. On to the CFrazier talk, he's a rookie who isn't getting regular playing time. He came out gangbusters then basically started platooning with Ellsbury. I get that he isn't walking, but he deserves some more PT, especially with Ells and Holliday making Mendoza look like a heavy hitter since July 1. DD didn't outsmart anyone. He doesn't have the prospect capital to make major moves. He got Nunez as Devers insurance should the kid come up and suck. He got Reed because most teams saw him for what he was, an overachieving homer prone rental. To this point DD's moves have worked. You couldn't have assumed DD knew that Nunez would hit .417 in 8 games. He didn't even know if Devers would be good in his first go round and he admitted as much on EEI. To this point, the sox have improved since the ASB because they are hitting. The Yankees lost 4 in a row because their previously 2nd in baseball offense hasn't. There are 7 weeks left to the season, there's plenty more time for either GM to prove if their moves work or not
  9. I nominate this for the dumbest post of the deadline
  10. In terms of the Yankees losing streak, it is what it is. Our offense has gone into a slump and two of our big performers are still on the DL. Frazier has returned to rookie status. Judge is slumping. Todd Frazier has continued to suck. It is strange to see this offense see 18IP 7ER performance over 3 games from our starters and lose all three. This is a young team for sure. This means we have to live with the peaks and valleys. We will see how JMont holds up today in what is likely to be his last start. although I am not holding out hope as we are facing a good Cleveland team at the wrong time for us. We are still tops in the WC for now and 2 back in the L column of the sox. This isn't over for sure
  11. I don't think we will regret Gray vs Quintana. Quintana, while solid, doesn't have front line stuff. Gray does. He did perfectly fine vs a tough Cleveland team. Getting Quintana without Torres was possible, but we couldn't beat the headliner for sure. Jimenez was a heck of a get for the ChiSox. If their rebuild comes into play and they hit on some of these guys, they will be very interesting for sure. In a short period of time, they brought in Lopez, Giolito, Clarkin, Kopech, Rutherford, Moncada and Jimenez. Clarkin and Giolito have the best floor as a starter while Giolito and Kopech might end up as high end relievers. Moncada and Jimenez are uber talented players capable of being all stars and Rutherford has talent, but hasn't produced yet. I like what they've done. They have more to go with Avisail Garcia, who I expect to be dealt in the offseason. If you blow it up, you might as well blow it up sky high
  12. To add insult to abundance, the Yanks decided to stretch out Mesa, who's been lights out since getting healthy. He dominated in his first Trenton start. We have arms galore. We have bats galore. After dealing off all the players we did, Josh Norris of BA dropped us one slot. We still have insane depth in this system
  13. It was bound to happen. He's a better hitter than he's showed. Since the Hr derby, he's been pull happy. He needs to start going back to his bread and butter, which is RCF
  14. Eck's personal reason is that he's a recovering alcoholic and he tries not to do long road trips
  15. Runner on 2nd, no out. K, GB, K. Never fails
  16. Girardi said the plan is for Frazier to go down when Hicks comes back up. Why the heck would we send down a clutch hitter and guy who's actually hitting well while instead giving playing time to the corpse of Jacoby Ellsbury and Matt Holliday, who's a different player since contracting HIV (or whatever virus he caught which sapped his power)
  17. The best way to get out of an inning against NY is to allow 2nd and 3rd with no outs. This team is awful at situational hitting. A joke
  18. S13, look at the splits. They're insane. ERA of 3.15 at night, 14.81 coming into today during the day.
  19. Why the f*** does Girardi start Tanaka in day games. His ERA is over 15 in Day games
  20. Pineda isn't the best comp. Pineda had better stuff before his shoulder exploded. Acevedo throws harder and has a deeper arsenal
  21. Grooms has injury, character and performance concerns and he's in A ball sucking ass. Mata is in Low A ball Chavis is a real prospect with close proximity. Fowler made his big league debut. Kaprielian likely debuts in Double A next year. Mateo will likely end the year in AAA.
  22. Tons of movement after the deals. Nick Solak, our second rounder from a year ago, is now in AA after destroying Tampa. Estevan Florial moved to Tampa after killing A ball. Hoy Jun Park moved to Tampa after doing well in A. Dermis Garcia moves from short season Pulaski to Charleston. He's 19 with light tower power who really improved his approach this year. He was the headliner of our big INTL signing class of 2014. Steve Sensley, a later round drafted from this year moved from Pulaski to A ball as well. He's been Ruthian since being drafted. Who knows what his ceiling is, but he's playing better than expected for sure
  23. Yeah, you're alone in that theory
