  1. Lots of heads in the sand
  2. Serious hypocrisy in this thread
  3. Did you watch any of the games? The ball that hit Kiermaier was a slider that bounced. The ball that hit Bauers was an inside slider lefty on lefty that Bauer’s nearly swung at. The ball thrown at Romine was a 94 mph fastball behind his head. CC then hit the catcher in the leg. You don’t go behind the head for clearly unintentional hit batsmen. Behind the head is a dangerous spot as the natural instinct is to bring your head back when confronted with danger.
  4. Certainly possible, but I think you are wishful thinking on Sale. Something is up for sure.
  5. Nunez plays a really, really good 3b. Devers clearly has more offensive potential.
  6. I agree. His BABIP is quite high, although its not entirely unreasonable for a high exit velo, high strikeout guy (see Judge). I do wonder whether we see Voit move to DH, Andujar to 1B and Machado to 3B
  7. Sale averaged 90.1mph with his FB yesterday, the lowest velo in a game in his career. One has to assume he’s as much a wild card as any for the Sox. His struggles really magnify what could be an interesting rotation dilemma for the Sox in the ALDS
  8. YES had a story on Voit after the acquisition saying that his exit velocities in the minors were insane and his pitch selection was above average lending them to believe he could be a good power hitter. Man, they were right on. The guy has a great eye and when he centers a ball, it leaves in a hurry. He’s looking like a building block going forward, which is awesome, and presents an interesting dilemma for us this offseason.
  9. WAR Is the best indicator, as flawed as it may be. Most fans look at the triple slash, whereas defense and base running are just as important, if not more. WAR tries to take that into account. There’s no reason Mookie shouldn’t win. There’s also no reason Trout shouldn’t finish second
  10. Not sure anyone wants the starting job for the WC game. Tanaka wasn’t sharp from the beginning. Lots of missed locations and long counts. He’s been bad for two in a row. KRob blew up in this one too
  11. So much for doom and gloom. Didi was cleared for baseball activities and will play in the Sox series
  12. 6-2 in last 8, including 4-1 vs Sox and TB. Now Magic number of 2 to snag HF in the WC game. If we go 3-2 to close out year, we win 100. Hicks got good news on his hammy. No tears. Gleyber was rested with a foot bruise. Didi says he will play (we shall see).
  13. Eovaldi has thrown 3 times vs the Yanks this year and has given up a .502 OPS. ERod has traditionally done well vs us, but the last two seasons, he hasn’t as our team has gotten very RHH heavy.
  14. Agreed Kimmi. Cartilage injuries don’t lead to structural problems short term, but they do lead to pain. It’s his throwing wrist too.
  15. That was awesome! Go ND!
  16. Be t if you’re afraid of Kimbrel in a decline phase, why sign Ottavino for the ages that you’d be worried about Kimbrel. Listen, if you’re spending money, you want to ensure you’re getting something for it. If you throw $20 mil at your pen in 2019 and all $20 mil is declining or useless, then you’ve created a hole while sinking money
  17. And what I mean with magnifying the risk is that you’re hoping the two of them improve the pen enough to replace Kimbrel even though you know both of them aren’t as good. This means you need two guys providing career level performances to create a bridge and closer whereas you had one closer who was totally lights out. The risk in that is if either one is ineffective or gets hurt, you’ve worsened your squad
  18. And he may. But you’re not talking about acquiring another closer with prospect capital. You’re talking about spreading around the money you’d give Kimbrel to multiple guys. That’s fraught with just as much danger as a declining Kimbrel would be. If you said, let Kimbrel walk and save the cash for later, then I’d at least say that’s an option. But signing a good FA reliever is going to cost you 8 figures annually with a commitment starting at 3 and topping out at 5 years. Getting two of them instead of one Kimbrel just magnifies the risk as you’re hoping the two can replace what magnificence was brought with one Kimbrel. And the only reason you’re doing this is to avoid the downside of Kimbrel, but you’re risking the same downside or more with guys like Allen and Ottavino. And it isn’t like they’re spring chickens. Allen is 6 months younger and Ottavino is 2 yrs older
  19. Davis wasn’t proven in colorado. Clearly there is a bit of a difference with the atmosphere. But outside help isn’t always the answer when you have a prime time performer already on your squad
  20. Eovaldi will likely get a starter spot if the Yanks are the opponent faced
  21. They just clinched top seed. Who cares how high you go. Cora needs to focus on ALDS
  22. Take a look at what the Rockies did with outside pen help and how that exploded immediately. There is something to be said for proven talent in Boston. You could throw $20 mil at two guys who end up terrible then you have to throw prospects and money at another fix later in the year
  23. That is a possibility, although by the time you need to re-sign Betts, your team will likely already be in the mediocre phase or in a rebuild.
  24. Yesterday showed the capability of our pen. Rather than having an opener then a starter, we had a pen day. The only “starter” who pitched was Gray and he went 2 innings. Interestingly enough, he was the only one who gave up any hits. All the others were lights out. Hicks did leave with a tight hammy. We should get some more info today as to the extent. My guess is he’ll be held out until the WC game
  25. Says he’ll play by the end of the week. We shall see
