  1. the sox are following the yankee model from the late 90s. Power pitching, solid pen and timely hitting. They are downright nasty right now, and are young enough to continue this for awhile. I no like.
  2. I think the home factor gets magnified this season since all 4 teams who made it from the AL were stellar at home. In a 5 game set, the home team needs to hold serve in the first 2 games because you could go to the away teams park and never come back. In the 7 game sets, splitting the first 2 as the home team is enough since there isnt a large chance that the lower seed takes all 3 at their place especially when your ace takes the mound in one of those three. Mission accomplished in the first part of this series, winning tomorrow is gravy, but it would certainly put a huge damper on things. The Guardians SP quality drops tremendously after Carmona.
  3. sounds good to me. And to be honest with you, if Posada and Mariano follow him out the door, it may not be the worst of things. Yeah, it will certainly hurt for 2008, but it will keep us from having 2 long term deals on players approaching 40 and it would nab us 4 draft picks prior to the second round. Hell, I'm game.
  4. Now, for a 7 game series, winning both games at home isnt the biggest objective. But winning both sure makes it easier knowing you come home again. If the sox win tomorrow and defeat the Guardians big two, then you can chalk this one up to Boston.
  5. I am glad they are naming names. Giambi was one guy who actually stood up and admitted to what he did and he is getting creamed for it. While I dont agree with what he did, he should be commended and vindicated when the list of the cowards comes out. And I could care less about Giambi in terms of my team is concerned. The guy did the right thing in the courtroom and he got skewered. That sends an even worse message to the kids.
  6. But in the trade game, value is always the most important thing. If you consider that Lowrie and Pedroia are similar, but Pedroia can net you 75% more in terms of talent, even though you like Pedroia better, isnt it more beneficial to the sox to trade DPed?
  7. I am sure the brass has seen more than anyone else on this board has. And with Theo, you know defense plays in the equation. Plus, you already have a shortstop who, while he isnt a total liability, is completely untradeable at this point. I think the brass are going to sit back and see what happens. If a sweet deal comes along for a starter and they want Pedroia, dont be surprised if Duddy hits the road. It is nice to have those kind of options.
  8. that is just a coincidental split for one season. The overall is what matters. Now if you told me he rakes against lefties or against righties, then you might have a point if you proposed a platoon. But raking outside of a neutral park (in terms of offensive enhancement/detraction) doesnt tell you that much. Kottaras went from being a real prospect to a backup prospect if he is lucky in one yr.
  9. Varitek has struggled for 2 yrs now. Something that doesnt work well for a catcher crossing the 35 plateau. And in terms of Posada, remember, I am alright with him leaving. I have no doubt that he will not continue what he did this yr. No way he even hits over .280 next season. Let some other team make the mistake of a 4 yr deal and give us some compensation before he Mussina's us. (Definition of the term Mussina: Have a career yr in your walk yr then totally suck once the ink is dry on a new contract).
  10. There was an article a couple days ago where an "insider" said that ARod instructed Boras to not use the opt out clause regardless. ARod is giving Boras free reign to bluff and banter all he wants, but if that article is correct, ARod aint goin nowhere.
  11. dats becuz dem dar helmutts and sholdamapads smackin down der on dat feld look mighty purdy on da small screen at JimBobs house. And dem dar baseball game uz too darn cofuzzlin to folla ya hear I reckon.
  12. Varitek parlayed 2 career yrs into a 4 yr deal. He earned that deal in only one of his yrs with next yr most likely coming with equal or worse production to this one. I dont think there is anyone who will argue with the fact that he has become somewhat of a liability at home plate as well. The sox tried to grow their own replacement but Shoppach and Kottaras have been major disappointments and the rest of the sox crop (with Weeden leading the way) is way too far away. The sox shouldnt jump the gun to re-up Vtek, they should look outside the organization for a replacement.
  13. 2 places where baseball fervor should be rampant, the fans just dont show. If I were Selig, I'd take the AZ team and both FLA teams and move them to a place where they care. This is inexcuseable.
  14. He's trying to change the culture of continually buying talent. I like it. I enjoy the idea that we could have a player for his entire 15 yr career rather than the final 3.
  15. Cashman got a lot of quick fixes on short term deals so he could bridge the gap between now and the future. The 3 guys who will be occupying the last spots in our rotation are Cashman's crew. If they fail and the reloading fails, he will be axed. But right now, he has done all he could with the remnants he was handed.
  16. the yankees just signed their first guy out of Brazil this past July.
  17. then how exactly is a manager judged? If the blame is always on the players, why are managers even fired? There are times where you just need a fresh face. The air stagnates, the fire goes out and you just need a fresh start. Now I could continue on for days about the failures of Torre, but he does have a strong enough resume to counteract anything I say. So, I'll leave it with this. The yankee guard is changing. The old are leaving/retiring, the young are growing up. Torre is a manager of egos, of consistency, of (as I said before) autopilot. Having to nurture kids through the 162 is something I dont think he is equipped for and I'd rather see these kids grow up in the right environment than suck them into the Torre feeder and ruin their careers.
  18. It is 2 draft picks and it is all star talent at the end of their careers. You cannot sit there and tell me that these guys are going to be all star talent next yr. This worries me. If this was Mo at 30, then hell yeah I resign him. But this is Mo at 38, this is Posada at 37. Father time will catch up with both of them eventually and sooner rather than later.
  19. or they could have thrown a wig on him and done a lifetime special of the shemale who is never appreciated as much as heshe thinks heshe should be.
  20. It would be interesting, though, if the sox decided to make a big splash by dealing Pedroia and then go with the rookie Lowrie while upgrading somewhere else.
  21. I think this will be the true test of Cashman's ability. If he lets the players determine who is best for the leader of the franchise, then he is just as bad as George. Cash has been good at leaving emotions out of the picture, he needs to continue this.
  22. BL, what happens if the above players who are FA's demand that Torre return or they'll go elsewhere? If they do that, then I'd shake their hand, wish them luck and take the picks.
