  1. JD Drew should get to know Garko a little bit better.
  2. that works. Ortiz pulled a Manny.
  3. 2 consecutive close calls go the way of the sox. That ball 1 was a strike.
  4. Diceman gets Martinez to chase ball 4. Damn
  5. Victor with a chance to break this thing open. BTW, the sox O hasnt helped. Westbrook is not this good.
  6. Tonight's game 3 will define who he is forever? Um no. If DiceK blows chunks and the sox lose by 15 runs tonight, they are still down 2-1 and need only one game in Cleveland to send it back to the fens. Tonight's game is as meaningful as game 4. We learn nothing from tonight.
  7. but how can you watch all that baseball when you have a full slate of games in the PCL?
  8. The Guardians had more fight. They both had a lot of fight, but the Guardians had more. It was pretty obvious in that last inning when the Guardians just piled on high and the sox rolled over. You dont need to try and lay this one any other way. The sox gave up that first run in the last inning then just opened the floodgates. And in terms of the other comment, yeah, it does take a whole team to win it. But coming in, the billing was all about the aces. But with a split in games 1 and 2 AND both teams featuring 4SP's in the series, it is coming down to the worst of them.
  9. http://www.nypost.com/seven/10142007/sports/yankees/tampa_sit_down_will_remake__or.htm Wow. You knew it was coming, but it still doesnt sink in right away. But George will make it official this week in their annual "season in review" meetings. He will hand over control of the yankees to his sons. Their roles have not been identified to this point, but they will be soon. George will still be there in a "chairman" position, but that is more of a figurehead than anything else. Thanks for the memories George.
  10. Last night was a chance to put the series in a strangle hold and it was theirs for the taking. Too bad for the sox that the Guardians had more fight. It becomes rather interesting now as the venue shifts and the sox throw one COLD pitcher in DiceK and one pitcher coming off injury in Wake while the Guardians throw 2 unspectacular pitchers of their own. It is kinda funny how coming in, guys like Carmona and Sabathia and Beckett were talked about as being the keys to the series. But literally, this series hangs in the balance on the starts by Byrd, Westbrook, Wake and a freezing DiceK.
  11. Hank Steinbrenner has been making more and more appearances. I have a feeling George is done as "the boss". He probably still thinks Reggie is on the team.
  12. http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=sports&id=5704479 I just told my dog to stay away from me for fear of punting. ANOTHER YR OF THE PLAYOFFS THEN A FIRST ROUND EXIT AWAIT!!! STRIKE UP THE DRUMS, I WANT ANOTHER PARTICIPATION BANNER!!! YEAH!!! AND EVEN BETTER, WHAT A GREAT WAY TO SHOW A YOUNG TEAM HOW TO BECOME GOOD THAN ALIENATING, ISOLATING AND OVERWORKING THEM UNTIL THEY NEED CORRECTIVE SURGERY OR PSYCHIATRIC ASSISTANCE TO PREVENT CAREER SUICIDE!!! I AM SO f***ING EXCITED!!!!
  13. I want a manager who is sensitive to the needs of the kids. Who wont overwork them. Who will schedule in skipped starts. This isnt Torre. Torre has a knack for "seeing what he has" early on and then going for broke until the regular season ends. That isnt the way you break in new kids. I am fine with bringing in a new manager who will be receptive to that. And if it holds us back from having another one and out in the postseason, then go ahead. The postseason isnt the goal IMO anymore. Having a renewable source of prospects and having a chance for sustained success without having to rely on aging stars is what I want. And if that takes a yr or two, then so be it.
  14. Posada had a season for the ages. .330 20HR 80+ RBI. I agree, he was completely irreplaceable this season. He was awesome. But even the biggest homer in me wont consider that he'll continue that pace. Prior to this season, Posada was a .260-.280 type hitter who would hit anywhere from 18-25 HR. I think he reverts to that OR WORSE next season since he is a catcher with TONS of mileage and approaching 37. ANd with the season he had, he could easily get a 4-5 yr deal worth 15mil a season. I dont think that is worth it, especially for a catcher who continually catches 135-145 games a season. It just isnt. As far as Mo is concerned. I love the guy. Love him. He is the biggest reason for our success, and that is without a doubt. But he has shown chinks in the armor for the past few yrs, but he has staved them off. One of these days, that armor will crack and he will become mortal. And at 38, it will come soon. If we could nab both of these guys in 1 yr deal, absolutely, sign them up. But we'd be commiting 7 figure yearly salaries for guys into their 40s. This was kinda the root of the whole problem that started this run of futility anyway. You can always "pay for it later". Well later is now and I'd rather take a back seat for a yr or two than have these weigh us down when the team is young.
  15. http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/20071013_Schilling_says_Phillies_are_on_his_list_if_he_leaves_Sox.html I have said it before and will say it again, Schill will get a multiyr deal from a NL team and I even said it would be philly in the recent past. He is as good as gone, and to be honest, I cannot blame the sox for passing. What are the chances he is able to handle a full season (number 1) or be reliable for a full season with stuff that mirrors that of Mike Mussina. The answer is not too much. He is useful in the playoffs because he still has enough to get by. But he is right on the precipice of being useful and being a detriment. And you sure as hell dont want to fall off that.
  16. writing Matsui off is premature at best. The guy hit 25 homers in 3/4 of a season and played the last 2 months with a knee he could barely walk on. If that knee is fixable, he will come back strong. If it isnt (like arthritis), then yeah, he is done.
  17. The drama needs to end. I just want to know, is he or isnt he coming back. People always seem to try and blame it on the players and whathaveyou. But his teams the past few seasons have crossed the finish line absolutely exhausted and it mostly has to do with his bullpen management.
  18. I have a feeling Igawa gets converted to relief. He was very good in his first inning of work and always seemed to start strong, then get figured out later in the game. I'd put him and Rasner in the long slots and then fill the rest of the pen accordingly. Part of what killed us was having nobody slated to go a few innings out of the pen. Torre always went his set route regardless of the score and it burned out our pen.
  19. You are right. The KC royals continually pick in the top 5 but draft late round talent for signability purposes. Then they dont sign outside talent and continually fail with the farm system that a team like the yankees should have, ie a team that choose late in rounds every yr. We dont have to go the Royals route. If you cherry pick the best players out of one draft, sign them all above slot, then you will develop a bunch of major league players and who knows, maybe an all star here and there. I just dont like the idea of locking in long term on a deal with a 37 yr old catcher and a closer who will be in his 40s when the deal he wants would finish. Take the picks, build from within and cherry pick the FAs available when needed. Hell, I'll give up the yankees #28 pick for F. Cordero (who is 6 yrs younger than Mo) lose Mo via FA and gain a mid 1st round pick and a sandwich pick.
