  1. I am conceding that you guys are built to win multiple championships. Acquiring Santana would cement a few more in the short run and seeing as he is 28, it does some good things for the long run too. Today is another one of those dickpunch days.
  2. Mo did it in many postseasons. Paps has done it in one.
  3. There are some really poor options out there. Colon may be the only guy worth throwing a line to, based solely on the fact that his fastball is still burning after surgery. And I agree with you on the pitching thing. I wouldnt mind releasing Mussina and trying someone else in the rotation too. Hell, Wang then 4 rookies. We might suck, but we would serve ourselves better in the future.
  4. you had one ace this yr. Paps is not even close to Mo in his prime. And if Delcarmen continues to develop, then yea, you will have a bridge similar to the late 90s yanks.
  5. Lets just say you dealt Buchholz and Ellsbury for Santana this yr. Just put it out there. That leaves you with a rotation of... 1. Beckett 2. Santana 3. DiceK 4. Lester 5. Wakefield or Schilling If you assume that DiceK is likely to get a bit better as he gains stamina, then that rotation will f***ing dominate. Who cares if Buchholz gets to grow in the tundra/baggy of Minnesota. That rotation would f***ing dominate.
  6. The Yankees of the late 90s put proven veteran pitching at the top of their wish list. When your rotation reads like a bunch of future HOFers or borderline HOFers all in their prime, then you are doing something right. 96- Pettitte and Cone in their prime 97- Wells, Pettitte and Cone 98- El Duque, Wells, Pettitte, Cone 99- Clemens, Cone, Pettitte, El Duque 00- Clemens, Pettitte, Duque, (Cone sucked) when you have 2-3 bona fide aces in your rotation and the best closer in history backing you up. And the bridge is loaded with 2-3 guys who would be closing on any other team, then life is goooood.
  7. das, to be honest with you, I would accept it. I just would need some time to grieve. Consider the 2001-2007 yrs the long drawn out terminal goodbye of a great dynasty run. 2008 being the birth of a new age that is still too young to branch out on its own. Give it time and it will grow. Okay, enough stupid analogies. The 2008 draft is loaded and we arent going to have Posada and Mo to depend on forever. If they left and we got the picks, we might be in a better spot in 2-3 yrs than we would be if we sign them.
  8. I dont think you give Kennedy enough credit. He has impeccable control of a solid MLB arsenal. He may not throw hard, but he has 4 major league pitches and can spot all of them. While I dont think he will be an ace, I do think he will admirably hold down a rotation spot wherever he ends up. He's the only kid in our rotation that I think can handle a full season. He threw 165 innings last yr, which puts him on pace for around 200. Hughes didnt. Joba was a reliever. For Hughes, the question is whether he can maintain his mechanics. When he went bad, he was putrid. When his mechanics were tuned by Dave Eiland, he was brilliant. Which Hughes will show? And for Joba, can he handle a full yr? He'll need to be handled with kid gloves. And if his minor league numbers tell us anything, he will start out as a 5-6 inning pitcher until he learns to pitch to contact a tiny bit more. Either way, I have all of them pegged for successful seasons when you put them in context of it being really their first full MLB seasons. But not terribly consistent as is the MO of nearly all rookies.
  9. No you are not. That is one hell of a questionable rotation. If that is the case, then I'd scrap the season, throw Bucky out there and see if he will ever earn that contract. Mussina is garbage.
  10. example, in Crunchy's defense, f***ing Bud Smith also threw a No no as a rookie and his only claim to fame is being included in the Scott Rolen deal. Crunchy has the win now attitude and I think it is apt for you guys. The Yankees wont be down for long. They may be down for 1-2 hell even 3 yrs. But if they do it right, there arent many teams that can take em. That being said, the sox have the best team in the game and the chance to nab the best pitcher in the game. If you got Santana, you'd be the favorites to win not just one more, but 2-3 more championships before the yankee juggernaut rebuilds (and if you look at history, you know it will eventually rebuild). Imagine being able to say that you won 4 championships in a decade, the only other team to do that was the Yankees. Having 4 chamionships this millenium compared to none by the yankees. Getting Santana almost guarantees that. Now Buchholz may be better than Santana, he may not be. But Santana is young and worth it. Plus, for us, we dont have an ace, so dealing a potential ace will hurt more. You guys already have one in Beckett. So dealing a kid doesnt hurt as much when you still have your hammer. If you have the shot, you take it.
  11. and the night gets even worse. Totally unsubstantiated rumor, but why not. On one of the yankee boards, someone reported that Posada has turned the yankees down and will sign with the mets once he is able to do so for a 4 yr 65 mil deal. I know the chances of this being true are not very good, but holy s***. Can you not punch me in the dick right now? I like the idea of the picks, but losing these guys kinda hurts a lot, ya know?
  12. I'd assume that this means Bartolo is in our sights. Colon is the ultimate low risk high reward kind of arm. This is assuming no other team is stupid enough to offer a long term deal. Then again, the Rockies are still in the majors arent they (that phrase loses its luster when they make it to a WS).
  13. It still doesnt mean all that much. Pettitte reiterated that he wanted to either be a yankee or retire, and he declined the option so he could have more time. So long as the yankees offer arbitration, which they will, they will still have a crack at him. I dont see Pettitte making up his mind for certain until December.
  14. I guess I like Crede most because he reminds me of Brosius except younger and better. Plays great defense, has some power from the right side, and makes good contact. Plus, until he got hurt this past yr, he showed improvement 3 yrs running. In the past offseason, the white sox pulled away from the trade table with the Angels after they offered Figgins and a prospect. Now, we can get him for a guy who doesnt even have a spot in our lineup? You do that 10 times out of 10.
  15. he was 4 yrs younger in 03.
  16. Shelley Duncan and Wilson Betemit will platoon. Betemit hits righties very well and Duncan mashes lefties.
  17. In terms of OBP, no comparison. But in terms of power, Lowell hit 16 of his 20 HRs in either Fenway or Toronto. Both VERY right friendly places. His away splits suck. I am afraid that he may be a product of his park, and if that is a case, he is WAY more valuable to the red sox than he is to anybody else.
  18. I think we should if Crede is an option. To be honest with you, when you take into account the splits, I dont think Lowell will do any better than Crede while playing in YS for a few yrs. Also, Crede is 4 yrs younger.
  19. Just to back up my point. Over the past 3 seasons.. Betemit vs Righties .277/.355/.841 Betemit vs Lefties .227/.277/.631 Duncan vs lefties .303/.378/.984 (and had .900+ OPS vs lefties for the third straight yr) Duncan vs Righties .220/..289/.801
  20. Damon was completely healthy when this season started too. You guys warned us of this. He breaks down. He has for 2 seasons now.
  21. It was pretty amazing what he did while hurt. I am not questioning his ability when he is on the field. I am saying that his history plus his body type means he may not be on the field as frequently. Hence, some rest may increase his ability to get on the field when you need him the most.
  22. No. The top 10 or 15 draft picks are inexchangeable. If the DRays signed Schilling, you would get a supplemental 1st rounder and the DRays second round pick.
