  1. thats along my thinking as well. I happen to think Betemit could hover around an .800OPS powered by his walks and power alone. He had hit for a high average early in his career, before he started hitting for power. Either way, huge dropoff from ARod, but then again, ARod leaves ringless and we need to change the culture for now. This All-Star at every position thing hasnt worked out quite as well as we had hoped.
  2. I have said before that Wang or Cano going to Minnesota would enable us to keep our major league roster otherwise intact. There is no other team that could offer a two time 19 game winner or a .300+ hitting powerful 24 yr old second baseman. This is not pennies on the dollar. This is getting cheaper alternatives that can help on either the offensive or pitching side of things. Dealing both Wang and Kennedy and Cabrera is unnecessary.
  3. I have a feeling we just encountered our main competition for Mo Rivera.
  4. the PCL doesnt test for alcohol?
  5. SP depth in the sox org is low, but with Beckett, DiceK, Buchholz, and Lester, they already have 4 spots taken up with guys who will be there for a long time. If they had to skimp somewhere, SP is it.
  6. http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071029/SPORTS01/710290436 Good for him. He will also be taking our hitting coach Kevin Long. As for Grady Little, he has been fired.
  7. The Braves wont just take 2 spare parts off your team for nothing. Crisp will be easier to deal. His contract is manageable and his defense is superb. If he recovers his bat from Cleveland, he could be quite a steal. Lugo, OTOH, has really no useful attributes. His bat sucks. His glove sucks. Even his arm sucks. All he has is speed and a bear of a contract. I have a feeling Lugo is your starting SS next season and Crisp is suiting up elsewhere.
  8. Bedard is not getting dealt. The Orioles have money, remember? And they have waited a LONG time to have an ace. They will build around Bedard, trust me on that one.
  9. Rolen and Crede will get a nice ransom of prospects in a trade since the market kinda sucks after ARod and Lowell. And both of them have chronic and recent injury histories. I'd have to say that Betemit is just as good a bet as any of them, and we already have him. Why the hell not? We have to see the writing on the wall here. There is no replacing ARods production from an offensive perspective. But if we can get some power production out of 3b (like we will with Betemit) and improve/mature on the pitching end, ARods loss will not be felt as badly.
  10. I still think they could have gotten more. The Tigers gave up WAY more for Sheffield and he is an old broken down OFer with a pisspoor attitude.
  11. If there was any money left on the dockett for the sox, then no. The ERent contract is still in place and hence the sox would have to abide by the agreement. Now if ERent opted out (f*** you ARod), then the sox would be off the hook.
  12. I disagree. Jurrjens is a contact pitcher for the most part who was shut down due to shoulder soreness that lingered. The Gorkys kid is an all speed no power OFer who may or may not be the next Jason Tyner and he is at least 3 yrs away. They could have gotten more.
  13. Betemit is the most logical choice. He has never gotten a chance to play full time, but he has huge power, is a switch hitter, plays good D and has shown improving patience. We might as well give him a shot. And if he hits .240 with 25HRs, we take it.
  14. Baseball is nothing compared to what he battled in the offseason.
  15. I meant that losing an effective Schilling would hurt. I have a feeling that Game 2 should be the last thing burned in a Red Sox fans memory. He is ready for a monumental decline next yr.
  16. I was saying he "will" be, implying that he already is. The phrase I get a kick out of most is "past a diving Jeter". Most SS's worth their salt dont even need to dive to get to balls that he doesnt.
  17. And I am not blowing smoke or anything. Your team is loaded. Beckett gives you a chance to win every time out. DiceK will not be an ace IMO, but he should still be solid. And Buchholz looks like he could be pretty good. Couple that with Papelbon in the back and you have a staff that can self-sustain. This isnt like the 03 Yankees here where the average age of the rotation was 37. Losing Schilling will hurt in the postseason department, but you have a real shot at running the table for a little while. You finally pre-empted us. But as you know, when we do things right, we do things VERY right. And I think this process we are going through will produce a whole lot of winning in the future. In the meantime, you get to enjoy the victory for now.
  18. hahahaha. I think it is time to face reality here as a yankee fan. Torre leaves. He was the glue that held the veterans together but had a penchant for sucking as a manager and killing the younger players. We get a manager who played with many of the veterans and is better known for getting the most out of his younger players than he is for relaxing his veterans. We draw a hard line in the sand with our superstar over contract negotiations. We havent heard s*** about the negotiations with our other FAs and even though we have heard that the yankees will be picking up Abreu's option for weeks now, nothing has been finalized. Cashman finally has ownership backing and I think he wants a clean house. With all of the young players already here and with the multitude of players coming down the pipe, I wouldnt be surprised if we are gonna go into shutdown mode for a season. Most rebuilding teams take 5 yrs. We can do it in 1 if we do it right.
  19. He does and I think he will be a solid pitcher for a long time. But dealing Cano gets rid of a middle of the order bat and dealing Kennedy gets rid of a guy who i truly think will be very, very good. It is a tough pill to swallow, dealing away young talent. We'll see. I have waffled over this one for quite some time. The best thing would be for the twins to try and win it all, and then watch him become available after next yr as a FA. Keep all the guys and get Santana with money alone.
  20. ARod left Seattle and they won 116 games. ARod left Texas and they nearly made the playoffs. Donnie retired and we won it all. You may be onto something here. In all honesty, the sox dont need to look at the yankees yr in and yr out anymore. The sox are the model that all teams will try to build similar to. In 2004, you outmuscled other teams with Schilling, Pedro and Lowe. But this yr, you beat teams with a solid rotation led by a lights out ace, a solid pen built from within, and a lineup jump started by home grown players. Congrats. You are on the top of the mountain. Trust me on this one, it dont last nearly long enough.
  21. If we offer Wang or Cano, we essentially spare the rest of the MLB roster, which includes Kennedy, Chamberlain, and Hughes. I would assume a deal for Cano would require one more prospect, maybe Tabata I would assume a deal for Wang would require two, maybe Horne and Tabata. If we dont deal those guys, then one of our trio gets moved, and that one will be Kennedy. Hughes and Chamberlain are absolutely untouchable, trust me on that one. But a deal with Kennedy at the helm would have to include our best pitching prospect (Horne), one of our best offensive prospects (Tabata) and then a long range talented prospect (like Betances). To be honest with you, I'd rather deal Wang.
  22. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3085167 Looks like Donnie is out of the fold. He does not want to accept another position in the organization. Girardi is the right man for this team. I continue to think that this team is being built with rebuilding in mind. They set a hard line on ARod, they get rid of Torre and now bring in a guy who is wonderful with the young players. I have a feeling Mo, Posada, Pettitte are following ARod out the door. GET THE PICKS!!
