  1. Masterson out of the pen will add a few mph to his already deadly sinker. I see him in the mix for setup man come playoff time.
  2. so if our starters go deep in games, their arms will be limp noodles. If our relievers throw a lot of innings, they will be burned out. Which one is it?
  3. no ruining of mojo. Joba threw very well today. I would like to see him cut down on the sliders though. More curves would be more beneficial since the slider reaks havoc on the elbow.
  4. This is what happens when a GM thinks he knows more about medicine than an orthopedic surgeon. If Curt had the surgery in the preseason, he'd be rehabbing right now and would at least have the potential to be ready after the AS break (of course if all went perfectly). The injury was unrehab-able. Then again, this surgery is typically a career ender, but it was his only chance of ever pitching again.
  5. Time to start another thread 6/19 NYY vs SD Damon leads it off with another hit
  6. Chris Smith is one hell of a pick. He batted .708 in HS this past yr coming out of Comptom, grades out as having plus power and plus plate discipline for an 18 yr old. I am surprised we signed him for slot. I would have expected to see him sign for over slot, but then again he is a poor kid so the 90K or so he will get should help.
  7. that 6th finger is useless
  8. you are too smart a guy to have made such a dumb post
  9. better than a Lisfranc. 6 weeks and then a rehab assignment gets him back in 8 weeks, just in time for mid august. With the fact that the rest of the league is pretty average, I think we can do it without him. I think the ALE is out right now, though.
  10. I find this funny. Griffey would want to go to a place that has thus far overachieved. If he goes, he'd ask for his option to be picked up, thus keeping him in Tampa through 2009. Once the Rays remember that they are the rays, he'll wonder why he ever left cincy.
  11. If you look at the deal Shapiro made for Colon, there are plenty of players he'd be looking for Sizemore was in A+ ball when he was dealt, and wasnt hitting particularly well. He had the 5 tool moniker though. Phillips was in AA at the time of the deal, and Cleveland foolishly rushed him to the bigs and then gave up on him Cliff Lee was in AA at the time of his deal as well. None of the talents above had even seen AAA or the bigs by the time they were dealt for Colon in 2002. Most of them were in A+ ball the yr before also, ie no repeaters of the leagues they were in. Hence, if the Guardians see talent, they wont necessarily take it only if it is in AAA.
  12. he's made what, 12 MLB starts, he's 23 and he already sucks?
  13. depends on what the Guardians are looking for. If they are looking for MLB ready talent, then it is Melancon, Cox, Hughes, Kennedy, Melky, Horne, McCutchen, Miranda or Gardner. if they are willing to wait a yr, then AJax and to a lesser degree Tabata. If they are willing to wait longer on a long range prospect, we have tons of those.
  14. If wang is done and we dont get either an unreal performance out of one of the rooks or we dont land CC. If Wang is done for the yr, this is about the biggest blow that we could have had to our chances. He was the one guy capable of pitching like an ace for an extended period of time.
  15. BSN, Hank is already negotiating a contract extension with Cashman, so I dont see a panic move per se. Then again, I have been surprised before. I think that regardless of what Wangs injury turns out to be, we'll be in the CC sweepstakes. Mostly because I think he is our big offseason target and if someone nabs him early, we'll have to get by again from within. The Guardians are in an interesting situation. They know they can contend, so they wont deal him now, but with the injuries to pronk and victor, their offense relies on Sizemore then ???. Also, Sabathia would net them 2 picks in the top 40 so whatever they deal him for needs to surpass or equal that value. I just dont see a need that would warrant giving up that kind of talent. ALE- Toronto and Boston are our main comp for the 1 spot and neither of them need a high priced front line starter ALC- No way CC is dealt in division ALW- ANA and OAK dont need pitching NLE- NYM dont have the goods or the need for another left handed starter making 20 mil a season NLC- StL is likely the biggest competition for CC with Chicago being an outside dark horse (I dont see CHC signing CC for 20 mil a yr when they are trying to sell the franchise) NLW- I dont see an NLW team making this move outside of LA, and I dont think LA will be in it come the trade deadline. So I am of the inclination that CC would likely make it to free agency.
  16. In some games yes. Against tampa he was regularly hitting 91-92. Hence why I give a range.
  17. The yankees biggest prospects are deeper in the system, and there are others I forgot to mention AAA- Robertson and Cox AA- Kontos, Melancon, Cervelli, Tabata, Jackson A+- Sublett, Pope, McCallister, Whelan, Garcia A- Montero, Almonte, Laird, Romine, Angelini, Snyder, Suttle, Betances, Heredia Then the injured guys like Brackman and Sanchez Last season's INTL signees DeLeon and Vizcaino as well as Mexican signee Banuelos. Then this draft which is very solid IMO, as is the sox draft. If a team wishes to find long range prospects, we have them.
  18. I was pointing at the AAA talent/ MLB talent. I forgot Buchholz, sorry.
  19. just read another article, says the pain is in the webbing of his 1st and 2nd toes. Bad, bad, bad news...
  20. The Yankees fear is irrelevant. What the MRI shows is relevant. Jamming your foot on a base would be an unusual but not unheard of way to get a Lisfranc. There are many bones in the foot and that is the worst type of injury IMO because of the need for surgical repair and the timetable. We'll see. Speculation is useless right now.
  21. not a lot of players come up and contribute right away like this. It typically takes some time for players to hit their peak. For some reason, these kids are coming up and making seamless transitions. They'll all hit their bumps eventually, but kudos to the FO for getting the job done.
  22. Injured foot. Doesnt sound like a cramp. I hope it isnt a Lisfranc
