  1. you are reporting on a through 4? Fire yourself
  2. I could see the pirates going after some of the younger kids in our system for Marte. I dont see any of the higher end guys moving over in the trade simply because the higher end guys might have a role this season.
  3. From what I have read, the tendon itself is not torn, the sheath surrounding the tendon is. We all know how important the sheath can be in holding a tendon in place. Regardless, if allowed to heal properly, surgery is not indicated. Although if he is splinted for a month without moving it, I'd expect him to take a long time getting back into the swing of things. He can't even rehab the injury for one month. I'd figure he'd be back a couple weeks after the AS break.
  4. if he didnt already, this punches his HOF ticket.
  5. He said he heard a pop when swinging. XRays were negative, but he says he will likely not play today. If this continues to bother him an MRI might be in his future.
  6. For years we have heard people complain about George. He's too abrasive. Outspends the league. Is making the league worse by outspending everyone, blah blah blah. As a Yankee fan, George was a guy you had to love. He would go to his manager and GM and say, who do you want? He didnt care about the price. He didnt care about what it would take. He didnt care who he'd have to piss off to get that player. He just said, here's the cash, do it. I liked that about George. Well, in comes Hank and he has those same qualities. He is willing to pay as much as possible to win, which I like. He makes some dumb quotes in the papers, but so did George, no change there. But the biggest knock on George and pretty much the sole reason why we havent been able to cross the hump from perrenial playoff contenders to WS winners the past 8 yrs has been pitching. And mostly, this is due to a barren wasteland of a minor league farm system. Well, this had a lot to do with George. George didnt care about the minor leagues, at all. He'd take a 39 yr old (or 45 yr old in some instances) with 1 yr of over the hill performance left over the hot shot rookie who has an entire career in front of him, every single time. He was one of the cheapest owners when it came to the draft and the INTL signing period. Likely one of the reasons why guys like Mark Prior slipped through our hands even though we drafted them. This is absolutely not the case for Hank. Last yr we spent 9 mil on the draft, more than any other team. And it sounds like that is just a stepping stone. A recent quote by Hank shows his devotion to building from within. If he puts his money where his mouth is on this again, we will be in much better shape. I think he is learning from the mistakes of his father. Regardless, I like Hank. Is he an *******, yeah. Is he abrasive, hell yeah. But is he willing to spend for anything the team needs and is he now a guy who is doing the ONE THING that George did not do to make this team better? Yes. If he actually does hoard the talent this yr like he has the past 2, then we'll be fine.
  7. why shouldnt he get his way? He does kinda OWN THE TEAM. And you assumption is funny. I think the one knock you can make is that Joba seems to average about 15-17 pitches per inning since he gets so many K's. Therefore, his 75 pitch count will likely only get him through 5 innings at the most.
  8. he didnt have to try hard. Sarfate missed the plate by 2 feet each time
  9. lol. Good to see Sarfate holding the runners on. And throwing the ball in the same zip code of the strike zone.
  10. Aaron Small was the true fluke. MiLB journeyman who latched on and had a yr to remember. See, Rasner was a top round draft pick and has been in the yankee FO minds since 2006. An injury last yr took him out of our potential rotation and also passed him through waivers. This yr, he is totally healthy and throwing very well. Hell his MiLB numbers show something changed too. If he continues to pitch unafraid he will continue to be solid. If he starts to miss or if he starts to get gunshy, he'll suck.
  11. Right now, Masterson may end up being in your rotation for a bit, so converting him to the pen is likely a poor idea. Until you know when DiceK is coming back for sure, you dont convert him. Also, you guys have a guy in Colon occupying a spot in the rotation who has had problems with endurance as the season wears along, so having an emergency starter like Masterson is a boon. Also, Schill is actually throwing so if he can fill in as the emergency starter then moving Masterson to the pen potentially can help. I do think Masterson will be in your pen for the playoffs though. His sinker-slurve (looked like a slurve on TV) is solid.
  12. BONEYTEK FOR EMPEROR OF BASEBALL!!
  13. Jeter also got picked off second with Arod up. Jeter also failed to get a bunt down in the 9th. As much as the pitching absolutely sucked in this one, Jeter and ARod stand out as being just putrid, even though ARod did hit a tater. BTW, Not sure what Girardi was doing today. Ohlendorf has had his arm abused this yr and he has actually shown to be pretty good in limited use. He breezes through inning #1 and then hangs everything in inning #2. Did he need to wait for the third HR to tie it at 8 before kinda figuring out that he didnt have much of anything by that second inning? And in terms of helping the club, you think Cashman can give us another pitcher? Hell, 12 pitchers is not enough when you have one transitioning to the rotation and another kid in the rotation hit or miss with giving you any more than 5IP. Either have Joba piggybacking with Kennedy or bring up pitcher #13. I have a feeling we see either JB Cox, Chris Britton or David Robertson coming up as well as one more starter. McCutchen just got called up to AAA and had a weak performance #1, so I dont see that happening. Steven White just got moved to the pen, which would likely mean he isnt going to be starting. Dan Giese had been fantastic until he was lit up for 7 runs today. Igawa has been meat since being demoted. Alan Horne and Chase Wright are on the DL. I honestly have a feeling we have 3 moves coming up... DL Kennedy (which has already been done) and call up Chris Britton. This gives us a long man who can throw strikes Option Ohlendorf to AAA to save his arm from Girardi and bring up Scott Patterson who has been damn good in ST and in the second month of the season DFA Ensberg, move Joba to the rotation with a 55 pitch limit in start #1 (which actually isnt too far off when you consider he is expected to throw 55 pitches his next outing) and bring up JB Cox who can give multiple innings. You really only suffer from Joba's short pitch limit in two outings (the 55 pitch limit and the 70 pitch limit) before he hangs out at 85 for awhile. You fill that hole by having 13 pitchers take the load. It is rough sailing now..
  14. McLaren was befuddled and lost this one for the M's. Sending Felix out in the 8th should have been on a batter by batter basis. Once Casey singled, he should have pulled him. He was right around 100 pitches at that time and should have been more cautious. Then again, with Putz throwing crap and Morrow being groomed for the rotation, I am not much surprised.
  15. Colon pitching to contact and getting results. He doesnt look too bad.
  16. I actually heard a good comp during the yankee game. I think it was Singleton who said that his first 4 games here this yr reminds him a lot of Boomer in his hay day. Nothing spectacular, but pounds the zone with all 4 pitches and isnt afraid to challenge a hitter. Right now he is certainly pitching that way. He started a good chunk of the hitters off with a breaking pitch, something you dont see too often and he was able to get it over. Most hitters take breaking ball on pitch 1, so if you can locate it, you get ahead in the count. And as most of us know, if you locate pitch 1, then you have a damn good chance with every hitter. The bottom line is, right now Rasner is pitching very, very well. Its not luck, it is a superior pitchability through 4 games. The question is, can he continue this. That will be the big question.
  17. Eh, I could see why he pulled him. Markakis tater and Huff's rifle double came within 2 batters of each other. Prior to that, nobody was centering the ball. The questionable choice IMO is bringing in Veras to replace Hawkins when he left the sacks packed. Veras is a kid coming into a situation with 3 inherited runners and already a deficit.
  18. If you told me Rasner would go 6 and allow 1 run. I'd have bet a grand on the yankees winning.
