  1. Pedro was the best pitcher I have ever seen for his first 5 yrs in Boston. It wasnt even close. His season where his ERA was in the 1s and the league ERA was in the 4s is likely the biggest ERA+ of all time.
  2. you philosophy is exactly why we havent won anything in 8 yrs. IE, you suck.
  3. Lack of national coverage has more to do with the lack of scouting per se. McCutchen and Marquez havent carved out names for themselves because they were written off rather early. Kontos is a real power pitcher who doesnt get press for whatever reason. How can you be down on a kid who throws 92-95 with a plus slider? Regardless, continue to rag on the system. It doesnt help that the sox have the biggest sports propaganda machine (ESPN) in their pocket and hence have more exposure. You will see.
  4. and I think it would all depend on what the Guardians wanted. If they wanted pitching, I dont think you guys could come close to the packages we could offer. If they preferred offense, then I dont think we could touch the depth in the position player area that you guys have.
  5. I disagree. His status has certainly been hurt by his lack of power and his attitude. Then again, he is the youngest player in a league that many teams use to catapult players to the bigs. So he isnt a project. Projects are guys like Dan Bard was 2 yrs ago. Great tools, lots of rawness, start in the SAL and need to work their way up. Tabata isnt raw as a hitter. He has a very solid swing. I just think he is finally experiencing failure in the more difficult league and he's getting his kinks out. Plus the hamate surgery doesnt help. It can take up to a yr to get the strength back fully and as you see with Kalish, the power is the last thing to return. Regardless, what I do like is that he has improved in every month thus far. From his abysmal april (.200/.308/.233) to his less abysmal may (.271/.319/.327) to his so far solid June (.333/.423/.381). I do agree that he wouldnt be a headline prospect at this point, but it isnt like he wouldnt be wanted at all in a trade.
  6. so you give up on a guy because he has a poor 2 months. I see. Regardless, they will most certainly ask for Hughes or Melky or Kennedy or all 3. They may also ask for Horne and McCutchen. They may see past Marquez and his poor start to his AAA campaign. They may go after the red hot JB Cox or Mark Melancon, both of whom look like MLB candidates this yr. Maybe they go for George Kontos who is just lighting up AA. Maybe they ask for Austin Jackson who is showing more patience this yr than ever, but the power hasnt come yet. How about Juan Miranda who was OPSing well prior to his injury. Or maybe they try and get Humberto Sanchez prior to his return from TJ (which will be in the next 2 weeks). Maybe they ask for Tabata whose power numbers are way down, but he is the youngest player in AA and has been solid of late, attitude aside. Maybe they go for the rehabbing Garcia or the solid Ryan Pope in A+ ball. How bout Cervelli who should be back from his wrist injury in a week or so Brett Gardner maybe, who is absolutely tearing up AAA Or maybe the multitude of high upside players in the SAL? Montero, Romine, Almonte, Suttle, Angelini, Heredia, Betances, and the list goes on The point is, this is the deepest yankee system since the championship teams. If the Guardians want to headline with 2 blue chippers ready for the MLB, then we are in the same situation as you guys. Bowden, Masterson, Lowrie, then what? Hughes, Kennedy, Horne, McCutchen, Miranda, Gardner, then what? If they want to dig deeper and go for one of those 4 or 5 prospect for one player deals, we have the goods. I'd just hate to see it happen.
  7. any time you have a wrist injury, there will be a lag. Tabata had his hamate done and he isnt the same just yet. Give it a yr or so to see how the power returns.
  8. I think Wang needs to go back to what worked. He'd been trying to make himself more of a complete pitcher and he had become a hit or miss guy. Go back to the sinker and work in the other stuff until it works again. Dont forget how you got to where you are.
  9. we have other guys deeper in the org as well. I just dont see the rationale of dealing away top prospects for a guy who is intent on hitting the FA market. Hence, I want him in the FA period. For the record, the other guys who will undoubtedly garner interest include Montero, Betances, Heredia, Tabata, Jacksonm Horne, McCutchen and others. You seem to forget that this system is deep as hell. Unfortunately, until we start to slot in young players for yrs, we dont seem to want to make a mistake.
  10. Corbin Joseph signed, he is one of the higher end HS bats we drafted.
  11. wrong on both counts. Neither were save ops.
  12. We have the pieces, no question. The question is whether we are willing to part with them.
  13. if you take out his abysmal april, he's... 2.88 50IP 50H 49K 11BB
  14. Love the pitching in our draft. Cole, Marshall, and O'Brien are 3 hard throwing HS pitchers with big upsides. Bleich will go through our system quickly. Bittle will rush through our system out of the pen. We fill out some org pitching depth in Phelps and Greinke. We have the high end HS late rounders in Richardson, Monar, and Dwyer who will be tough signs. If we can sign them all, then the pitching we will have acquired will be ridiculous.
  15. Joba threw well. Posada's passed ball and one hanging slider were the reasons for the 3 runs. I think Joba needs to learn how to be a pitcher in some instances. He had Guillen at a full count with a base open and he throws a "get me over" slider. He has to understand that he can throw that thing as hard as he can and if the slider is out of the zone, he takes the open base.
  16. it all depends on the cash. Meyer wants top 5 cash, meaning 7-10 mil. The sox will likely start with late 1st round money, somewhere in the 2-3 mil range. They will have to meet somewhere.
  17. Meyer is a big time talent. 6'7" with power stuff. Very raw. Considered to be a late 1st round/sandwich round talent, but he's asking for top 5 pick money. Thats a 4 mil difference in cash. We'll see what the sox can do.
  18. Big day 2 for the sox. 3 high end players who are going to be very difficult signings.
  19. He's a two way athlete who the sox drafted as a SS. He's signed on to play QB at Tennessee, so you can see what kind of athlete he is. Very smooth defender with a raw bat. Sounds like a boom or bust pick with the potential to hit it very big. But he will take some time.
  20. Sox get Meyer late in the draft. Late 1st round talent, apparently wants top 5 money. If he doesnt get it, he goes to KY
  21. if it were up to me, I'd sign em all
  22. Interesting draft. I think the sox took a solid pick in Kelly and are going the developed route in terms of pitching. I dont love any one of their picks per se, but I think they did well for their location in the draft and the collection of talent they received should turn out a couple good prospects. For the Yankees, quite an interesting draft. Cole was the best HS pitching prospect, but Boras helped him get to the Yankees. High 90s heat with a plus slider already and a serviceable plus potential change. He'll need some mechanical tweaking, but his frame and arm have him slotted as a potential ace Bleich is an interesting, low risk pitch. Lefty with 3 average pitches and impeccable control. Dominated PAC 10 comp this yr too. Reminds me a lot of the Kennedy pick. Dont get the Bittle pick. We drafted him in the 48th last yr and must have liked what we saw. Drafted as a reliever, I think the yankees will try him in the rotation. Hard sinker in the 90 range with 2 good offspeed pitches. I think he'll have limited projectability because of his velocity Adams is another interesting pick. Reminds me a lot of Pedroia. No true plus tool, but is a professional hitter who can field his position and is known as a "gamer". Joseph and Smith are the big picks on the offensive side here. Both have 5 star ceilings and both are committed to big time baseball powerhouses. Signing them would be quite a coup. The Marshall pick is likely going to be one of the more underrated picks. Marshall is a small framed (6'0") converted SS who just had a huge jump in velocity. He's 18 and throws 94-96 with an already hard plus slider. Has a very inconsistent change at this point and likely will need that to remain a rotation option. I think the yankees passed on some high upside players in the supp round, to go with the low risk player in Bleich. Scheppers or Lobstein might have been better in that spot. Regardless, Cole is an excellent pick and the picks from Round 4-6 all have ridiculous upside. Signing them will be tough
  23. Reese Havens to the Mets. This was the guy the sox were in love with
  24. Well, there goes Ike Davis. This kid has light tower power. The Mets got a good one here.
  25. The most recent mock drafts I have seen have the sox taking a HS SS with pick #1, the name slips my mind right now, but apparently the sox love him. Power projection, fast and has a good eye for an 18yr old The Yankees have had some interesting speculation. I have seen Ike Davis dropping to us in one, but the majority of the mocks have him going in the earlier picks. A few others have some interesting prospects. Tanner Scheppers, one of the hardest throwing pitchers out there is reportedly asking for top 4 draft pick kind of money, signalling to some that he has already reached a deal. The speculation is that Scheppers is pushing himself out of the first round and the yankees may select him later. The other names that keep falling are the HS lefty Lobstein and the HS righty with the best arm in the draft (but has criminal issues apparently) in Cole.
