    he doesnt have an extensive history. He had a tricep strain and was significantly overweight.

    I'd venture to guess that his curveball is still plus. His biggest issue is fastball command, something he is learning, albeit slowly. But those who thought he would be absolutely lights out in yr 1 as a starter was crazy. I predicted this. And I also predicted that the heater would be a bit slower as Joba learns how to pitch. It will take some time.

    99 out of the pen. I would say most of his starts, he got into the mid 90s by the middle innings. Like I said, I didnt see today's game, but lets try to be accurate here. I've missed only two or three of his starts and for the most part, he's 89-90 inning 1 and by inning 3 or so, he's back in the 93-96mph range.

    Most of his issues are in the 1st inning though. I didnt see today's game as I was working, but for the rest of them, he seems consistently 3-4mph slower in the first compared to the 2nd and on. Almost like he's feeling out the zone or like he doesnt warm up enough. That being said, I expect him to hit a wall right about now since last yr really didnt build any endurance and this yr he's been going on regular rest without fail. Might be time to skip him for one start

    Crunchy has made no bones about Theo in the past. I think his point stems from the fact that 2004 was built with Duquette's guys for the most part and Crunch has never been a fan of the way Theo et al escort former stars out the door (ie gutting them in the papers then unceremoniously dealing them with a parting jab on the way out).

    Joba is a first yr MLB starting pitcher in the most difficult division in baseball. Remember that. He has electric stuff and the propensity to become an ace. But he wont be doing that right away. As a first yr starter in the bigs, he has been wildly inconsistent. He's gone from looking like a dominant front end ace to looking like a lost kid on the mound when missing the zone consistently. This is expected.

    now that I think about it, you are right. I find it unlikely that the yankees would yo-yo him twice in one season at such a young age. I'll tell ya what, though. We'll be having the same conversation about Hughes next yr as we had about Joba last yr.

    In a short span, Hughes has been electric out of the pen. 14.2IP 6H 2ER (both in his first relief appearance) 3BB 16K for a WHIP of 0.61 and an ERA of 1.42

    He could be. That being said, the person propagating that rumor was Kiley McDaniel, one of the BA writers. Turns out he was completely wrong as no 16 yr old can play in the GCL unless their 17th bday occured sometime during the season, which Sanchez's doesnt, so he was wrong

    and because Hughes isnt stretched out enough to handle a starting role. This is the crux of the argument for him to go to AAA. Granted, he's been dynamite out of the pen, so thus far its working. But it leaves us without a legit backup starter outside of Mitre.

    finished 3-4 tonight with a BB. AVG up to .346 and OPS right near 1.000 as a 19 yr old in AA

    0-2 split the plate. That was a runnable offense. If we did that when I pitched, we were put on a treadmill after the game for 60 minutes

    the season started about 3 weeks ago and yes they are 9 inning games. The GCL is another short season league

    Rumor has it that Sanchez will be sent to the GCL next week, something typically unprecedented for a 16 yr old. Most 16 yr olds sign contracts for the following yr, but the yanks like Sanchez enough to start him off ASAP. That's pretty cool.

    http://www.projectprospect.com/article/2009/07/02/top-50-prospect-list Montero is rated as the #11 prospect in the minors at this point by Project Prospect. McCallister fits in at 34 and Jackson at 48. But, as you know, he isnt a top prospect. Nope, not at all.
