  1. but they're fun.... I do find it funny how this country has been turned into one of wusses and wimps who are quick to point at anything controversial and yell racism sexism, homophobia, whatever. Time to tell it like it is people and stop being so damn sensitive. That being said, the argument at hand is about Gardner and Ellsbury.
  2. Not what I was doing. I said the country as a whole was dumb. Check out educational rankings if you wish to decry that statement
  3. Cleveland had home field through the playoffs, so they were considered to have the best record in the AL
  4. Christ people. Its not racism. I said his country was dumb as s***. Its a third world country. Not exactly breaking new ground here.
  5. I had the argument. I just felt like getting a dig in too
  6. its true. If Cashman wants a player, he has the money to overpay for that player. It is simple as that
  7. record doesnt help you win in the playoffs. Over the last 7 seasons, only 2 teams with the best win % in the AL made it to the world series (NYY 2003, CWS 2005), and only one of them won it (CWS 2005). It isnt about your current record. It is about how strong your team is from top to bottom.
  8. They certainly could have. Hell, Tex had a better offer than what NY offered, but he wanted to go to a winner. He most certainly would have gone to Boston. What player has the executives of a team over his house to have a meeting with a team he isnt serious with? Thats ridiculous. Tex wanted big money and a chance to win. Once the Halos dropped out, the only teams left with those two qualities were NY and Boston. He stated his demands to Boston, they declined because they didnt think the yankees were in on it. And for a mere 1.125 mil more per yr, the yankees stole him from the Sox grasp.
  9. Just remember my dominican friend. You live in a land of morons. All you need to do is recite the alphabet to get a law degree in the lawless DR. And also remember, we teach your country how to be good physicians. Unfortunately, when you have s*** to work with, you get s*** results. Kinda like having a team full of Julio Lugo's. You can only do so much.
  10. Sac flies and bunts are a miniscule portion of the derivation especially when you are talking about two players in the AL. But, if you wont accept an accepted stat, then how about another one BB%. I know, I have to explain seeing as math isnt a strong suit in the dominican. BB/(AB+BB). The percentage of ABs that result in walks. Gardner's is 10%. Ellsbury's is 6%. That is another stat to prove my point. Need I go on?
  11. You can downplay the stat all you want. It is a legitimate stat. I dont really have much in the way of a rebuttal if you wont accept a legitimate stat. Thats like saying rads or greys arent good stats in radiation or that pounds or kilos arent good units of measure. It isnt debatable. Just shows a deficit in your skillset as a thinking human being.
  12. Tex is on pace for 45 homeruns, 130RBI and an OPS of .960 even when you consider he slumped horribly for half the current season. Then consider his defense, which has been absolutely 100% incredible. Watching him play first instead of Giambi has been a pleasure. His D has saved the infield of so many errors and hits it isnt even funny.
  13. I doubt Lugo is going anywhere as he gives you insurance should Lowell go down for the count. I highly doubt the sox would give up on him right away unless they got the right deal prior to his release
  14. You guys are incredible. Homers to the end. I said that Gardner is more patient. Exhibit A: Ellsbury IsoPatience: .048 Gardner IsoPatience: .077 Exhibit B: Ellsbury P/PA: 3.80 Gardner P/PA: 4.05 Exhibit C: Minor League #s Ellsbury IsoPatience: .076 Gardner IsoPatience: .098 There isnt much of a comparison. Gardner has been categorically, the more patient hitter than Ellsbury. There hasnt been a change of approach. If anything, Gardner should be the only guy they go after whether he's in the 8 or 9 hole, yet he gets walked at a higher rate. That argument makes no sense. Gardner bats in front of Jeter out of the 9 hole while Ellsbury bats in front of Nick Green in the 7 hole. Plus, another fact to douse your fire. Ellsbury IsoP by batting position Leadoff: .033 Second: .182 (only 17ABs) Seventh: .052 (only 35AB) Eighth: .063 (only 14AB) So even with the position change, the IsoPatience does not touch Gardner's. When you compare these players, you need to think about the type of player they are and how they contribute to a club. For Gardner and Ellsbury, neither will ever be big slugging percentage kinds of guys. They are pests. They are best when they are on base. And while Ellsbury's OBP is significantly impacted by his BA, Gardner's isnt as he is more patient. So, in the long run, I expect Ells to have the higher average, but Gardner to have the higher OBP as he learns the league since he has proven at every level that he is more selective and more patient. In terms of the better overall player, it is way too early to call that. Both of them have near identical OBPs and OPSs with Ellsbury having a decided advantage in BA. They were born within 3 weeks of each other although Ellsbury has a yr on him in terms of experience. So I am not calling that now. I am just saying that the player who has the higher OBP in their instances will be the more valuable offensive player and I think long term, Gardner possesses the tools to outdo Ells in that singular category
  15. Why the love for Teahan and Beltre Adrian Beltre had 3 seasons in his career where he put up an .800+OPS. One of them was his ridiculous contract yr. The other two were in 2000 and 2007. He isnt very patient. He's not a ridiculous power guy as he seems to sit in the mid 20s in terms of homers. He doesnt hit for average. What is with the love affair with him? He sounds like a worse Mike Lowell at a bigger cost. Mark Teahan? Really? He doesnt hit for average. He never developed power. He isnt a good defender. He doesnt have speed. He isnt very patient. There is nothing about him that screams sox 3b. Regardless, the fact that these guys are being brought up as replacements shows how wrong you were. Tex>>>>anything the sox have at 3b both internally and as trade options. The money argument isnt worth it because they would have saved 10+ mil by dealing Lowell and they were willing to belly up to the table at 170 mil. Plus, they would have increased the value of Youkilis, who really isnt a middle of the order power hitter by moving him to 3b and they would have gotten a franchise 1b in his prime in his 20s.
  16. exactly. He isnt a guy who can centerpiece a deal for a guy like Halladay, but for a guy like DeRosa, he certainly could be a good part of the deal.
  17. Exactly who I think the sox will target. The price is high right now and there are a few teams who are actually considering him as a middle of the order bat. If they wish to pay the middle of the order premium on talent, then the sox wont get him. If not and the sox want to deal a guy like Doubront or a few further down the road talents, then they certainly can get him. And I would hate to see him in Boston. He reminds me of a better Grafanino and DeRosa always seems to hit us well
  18. basestealing requires both innate speed and a skill that is learned with experience. Gardner had it down in the minors, but pitchers in the bigs are better at pickoffs and slidesteps, so it makes for a difficult read. That being said, Gardner has been given the green light of late and he's been running more. I like it. I said before the season, that an OBP of over .350 would be all I asked for from Gardy. He's at .358 right now. If he can continue that, then I'd petition for him to be starting over Melky and basically anyone else out there. He has a great eye, his contact has improved and he is stealing more bases. He sounds like a guy who is gonna patrol CF for the next few seasons and get better with time, which is all I can ask for. And when Damon leaves next season, I expect Gardner to slot into the leadoff spot and be a f***ing pest for a long time to come. While Ellsbury has more power, Gardner does the job of the speed demon better. You can't steal 1b, and Gardner is willing to take the pitches to get there. Ellsbury is a hacker whose patience is lacking.
  19. Teixeira is not an above average player Dojji. Try to defend all you want, but Tex is an elite level player and you know it. Your rose colored glasses make it hard to see that sometimes. He would have been a substantial improvement over Lowell in both health, defense and offense. Now in terms of going forward, I think a move was going to be needed even if he proclaimed himself chipper and healthy as his production has taken a nosedive. His OPS per month is as follows: April .912 OPS May .816OPS June .607OPS Not only that, but he isnt walking and his OPS is driven mostly by his power, which was incredibly inflated after the first month and wasnt sustainable based upon his prior career norms. Add to that the fact that he is a statue at 3rd and you have a guy who is detracting from your ballclub. Thing is, if Papi hadnt gotten hot, the fanbase would be all over Lowell right now. But winning takes away that sense of urgency for now. That being said, a lineup with 2 of the trio of Green, Lugo, and Lowrie in it for the long haul would be fricking great from where I am sitting.
  20. This is why having an empty DH slot over the next few yrs is vital to yankee success. Hip injuries, especially labrum issues, result in arthritis over time. You guys just need to get through another yr and a half with Lowell. We need to get through another 8.5 seasons with ARod. Sounds like Lowell's is down to bone on bone. Hopefully ARod's wont be after surgery this offseason
  21. I wouldnt say Ellsbury is faster at all. Right now, he is the better basestealer, but in simple footspeed, Gardner is one of the fastest guys the yankees have ever had and I believe his 60 time was faster than Ellsbury's. Ellsbury has the reads down a bit better and he plays more.
  22. so, if you draw conclusions based upon the worst team in baseball tuning up your 42 yr old pitcher, we dont know baseball? Cmon now. He wasnt sharp, that being said he was far from his previous unhittable self.
  23. http://www.lohud.com/article/20090626/SPORTS01/906260381/-1/SPORTS So, they tried to rehab it, but he felt it go on a throw last night. It might be time to retool the roster a bit if that is the case. Now that Ransom is back, we have a guy who screams utility guy. Lets send Pena down so he can get regular playing time and bring up a bat to come off the bench as needed. When we have our full complement in an AL game, our bench consists of: Melky or Gardner Cervelli Ransom Pena Now granted, Pena, Cervelli, Melky and Gardner have exceeded expectations to this point, but none of them really offer anything more than a line drive single if we needed it. I would like to see them add a guy with some pop if needed off the bench. Especially with this club and the age on this club. Damon goes down for a couple days and both Gardner and Melky are in the lineup, two guys who arent gonna light the world afire with their power. Cano or Jeter out of the lineup for a few days and Ransom goes in, another guy without a lot of power. So, how bout we bring someone up and send down Pena, a guy with options. Maybe a guy like Miranda, John Rodriguez, or Shelley Duncan. BTW, Duncan is lighting the world on fire in AAA, 20+ homers already and he's being treated like he's Ruth incarnate in terms of walks in big spots.
