  1. He was touted as a sleeper by BA And he might skip to Tampa next yr. These are facts.
  2. I am not trying to equate Buchholz and Kennedy. I am just trying to point out the hypocrisy that runs rampant here. Both of these guys had a good run at the end of 2007 and then sucked donkeyballs in 2008. Both have dominated AAA and pretty much every level they have been on. Both are pretty much exactly the same age. The idea that Buchholz is a future ace and Kennedy is meat is just hypocrisy since both have the goods to succeed but just need the experience at the big league level to develop into what they can be. I think that at their best, Buchholz would be better than Kennedy due to his arsenal, but there is no guarantee that he gets over his mental hurdles to surpass Kennedy and vice versa. I do think Kennedy safely profiles as a SP in the major leagues and I think he could be a nice asset to us. But the ideal situation would be for him to have his growing pains in a weaker division and then come back once he is a finished product.
  3. Bud Smith threw a no-no also. How did his career turn out?
  4. where did I say he was awesome or going to be great? See, the table doesnt apply and by the way, have you enjoyed the fact that you havent had an original thought since ORS created that? Its kinda funny how he just comes up with something and the mindless drones eat it up. Hilarious actually.
  5. Elite contact skills would imply that he doesnt strike out. IE, he doesnt swing and miss, he can make contact with incredible regularity. He's got 46Ks through 49 games. Thats not elite. His batting average skills are solid, but where he is going to make an impact is through his power. I dont think you can refute that statement, so whichever table you wish to use to show that I will be right, feel free. He is a solid prospect, and if you follow some prospect models (ie, once a player makes his big league debut, then he becomes a post prospect), then you could argue he is the sox best prospect.
  6. Kennedy- 58.2IP 63H 40ER 42K 35BB 6.14ERA 1.67WHIP Buchholz- 98.2IP 107H 61ER 94K 51BB 5.56ERA 1.60WHIP By saying he has done more do you mean he has sucked just a bit less than Kennedy has, cause that would be more accurate. Listen, I think Buchholz is a future front of the rotation pitcher if he follows the Jon Lester stuff to production development program and I do not doubt the statement that Buchholz' stuff is better than Kennedy's. But you cannot write off what Kennedy has done at the minor league level and just say he sucks. Both of these guys need time to develop as any young pitchers do and saying that either of them suck and will suck long term is an assinine statement at this juncture
  7. Yep, thats correct. Turns out he was 18 and his real last name was Garcia. Maybe this forces us to offer more for Sano, assuming Sano passes his investigation.
  8. so by that logic, Buchholz is terrible and worthless as well, right?
  9. Ian Kennedy is still definitely a guy to keep an eye on. His attitude needs adjusting, that much is for sure. But he was pitching really well in AAA and probably would be in our rotation right now had it not been for his aneurysm. I think he comes back and becomes prime trade bait come the offseason. But dont sleep on him. Just cause he got hurt doesnt mean he is terrible or worthless. But his kind of pitcher, ie finesse stuff with good location, will take awhile to mature at the big league level. Hence why I think he will be better served in the NL on a s*** squad for a few yrs.
  10. way too much in this day and age and they wont be able to resign him.
  11. Reddick isnt a .900OPS guy right now. He has good tools. His contact skills are definitely not elite IMO as evidenced by the BA and the strikeouts, but his power is real and I do think the patience is coming. I think he'll be a corner OFer for you guys one day, but I dont think it will be soon enough to defray the loss of a guy like Bay. I do think he'd be a good transition point from Drew, though.
  12. you are devious, now arent you. I like it
  13. Sorry, the above post belongs in the Bay thread
  14. Neil Medchill is living up to his sleeper touting by Baseball America. He hit his 6th homer of the season tonight, a grand slam. Mind you, he only has 83 at bats. 14 of his 28 hits are for extra bases and he is currently OPS'ing over 1.000. He is just crushing the ball in his first taste of the wood bat. If he keeps this up, they might skip him to Tampa for 2010
  15. His value could absolutely skyrocket if the sox go deep into the playoffs again. Remember, teams love to go after guys who prove they can lead a great team and if the sox win it all, Bay will be one hell of an expensive commodity, since he is your best player
  16. You make yourselves better if you make your rivals worse. If the sox dont get Halladay but are able to assist in keeping him out of NY, then they did their job
  17. He did not, but I would gladly start that rumor if you were willing to perpetuate it
  18. Whatever it took. I bet if Gerrit Cole wanted a set of male strippers dressed like the village people, Cashman would have footed the bill.
  19. 82% of JD Drew's at bats have come outside of the leadoff position, genius.
  20. and both of these guys are on the same team right now and Bay is blowing him away. Plus, Bay was on one of the worst teams in baseball while Drew enjoyed time in StL, LA and now in Boston.
  21. I am talking about over the last few seasons. We have seen Ramirez, Pena, Aceves, Wang, Cano, Melky, Cervelli, Miranda, and a few others make at least a debut in NY with most making meaningful contributions in NY. The Sox have been predominately restocked through the draft with some INTL potentials in the minors. I would still say the yankees' INTL FA stock in the minors currently is still head and shoulders above the sox with Tazawa and Almanzar being the best sox possibilities. I think Theo is trying to fix that. But, the yankees have been in the dominican for yrs and have a lot of inroads into Venezuela and Panama. The Sox really are about a decade behind the yankees in this aspect, even though they are probably the second or third most active franchise in that tiny country.
