  1. I am an M.D. That is bestowed upon you when you finish medical school. I am still a resident, so I am not board certified.
  2. its difficult. You can take it out of quotes, that is, unless you want to be wrong. Wouldnt be too off from baseline
  3. Thats ********. Should be umpires judgement. Zobrist was on his way home when the ball got stuck
  4. Pettitte was elusive tonight. Good command and kept almost everything on that outside and low corner. Hughes got into a jam that Mo further worsened with the double. Mo looked pretty pedestrian tonight.
  5. Guys, throwing a curveball is not what will make Buchholz better. Everytime you have an electric stuff rookie coming to the bigs, their problem is ALWAYS fastball command. And it is with Buchholz as well. If he locates 95mph to the corners, then he can at least be an average major leaguer. If the then starts to locate his offspeed stuff, then he will be something more.
  6. per mlbtraderumors.com the sox gave a list of 8-10 players to the M's and said they could have 5 of them. And that list had a ton of talent on it. The M's turned them down flat
  7. The teams were much different the last few times we met. Our offense was hit or miss, our bullpen was in complete shambles aside from Mo and outside of CC, the rotation was awful. Right now, 4 of our starting pitchers have been rolling of late (outside of Burnett's lone terrible start). Our offense has been hitting well. And outside of the 2 abysmal pen days, the pen has been rather solid over the last 2 months. This is gonna be a fun series
  8. I am saying his BABIP vs lefties is sustainable. His BABIP vs righties is not since righties have the advantage vs lefties
  9. The Cardinals would have to throw a Tex like deal his way. BA is now up to .311 and his OPS is over .900. And, he turns 30 this offseason, so he will be worth a TON of money
  10. I agree. I think Bay ends up with the Mets or the Yankees when all is said and done. That being said, I think the VMart deal had more than just this yr in mind. VMart can both catch and play 1b. Youkilis could theoretically be moved to LF if need be and you could have an IF of Tek, Martinez, Pedroia, Lowrie and Lowell for 2009 assuming the sox dont resign Bay or get another OF bat.
  11. I will agree with you on something here. There is no way he continues his BAA of .235 vs righties. That wont be sustainable. But the BAA and really low BABIP vs lefties with his stuff is acceptable and expected. Take a look at any left handed reliever worth their salt and look up their BABIP vs lefties. Go for it. None of them would be anywhere near .300. All will be lower. Hence why they are relievers. AND, BABIP is a stat that is expected to regress to a mean over a significant amount of time and based on a mean of all pitchers around baseball. So it isnt about luck when you talk about: A- a part time pitcher B- a situational part time pitcher The rules dont apply. Have you taken statistics? Do you know what a confounder is? Its like trying to perform a study on populations and lung cancer without controlling for smoking. Lefties hit lower vs lefties. Without correcting for that confounder, the idea that a situational lefty regresses to a pre-set mean based on all the pitchers in the game is bogus.
  12. they do, and I bet he loves StL. But the Cardinals have already come to him looking to extend him, but he is adamant about testing the market. If he hits open water and we want him, you know where he's going.
  13. It is really difficult to predict BABIP when you take into account situational relievers. Coke has faced 36 more lefties than he has faced righties, which is not the standard split in major league baseball. This is what is called a confounder and a good reason why a theorum like BABIP would not apply.
  14. Coke's outing came with the yankees trailing by 4 and Aceves' shitbox came with the yankees trailing by 1. Both of those games were put out of reach by their s*** performance, but neither of them were the losers of the game especially since the yanks scored no more runs after they entered the game. So actually, your statement is inaccurate. They both sucked, but they were not the culprits
  15. Bay's offense is really good. But, his recent slump cost him a lot of money. I said nothing about him being good or not. I just said his performance of late is costing him money, which it is.
  16. You like to twist things now dont you. That being said, I agree that the sox 7th inning is more secure than the yankees. But one bad outing aside for both of them, Aceves and Coke have been pretty damn good in that role to this point.
  17. if he comes to NY and Bay walks to say, the Mets, your offense will have taken a massive hit.
  18. A 7th inning pitcher is not as important as a starter. Lets not be dumb here.
  19. Bay may have cost himself 50 million with this 2 month slump. Holliday is slowly rising to the top of the class in terms of offseason FA. He is playing himself into pinstripes.
  20. Hughes and Mo are as good as it gets back there. I do agree that something needs to stabilize. Coke and Aceves got creamed in two consecutive outings, but they had been good up to that point. But it isnt about the pens and you all know it. If you throw starters out there 60% of the time who are throwing meat and not giving innings, then you arent winning this division.
  21. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ym8Q9yxUg34/RjaSjRfqVEI/AAAAAAAAAGM/f6t8ihxAOkU/s400/crashburn.jpg It almost feels a bit wrong to sit back and watch Gom crash and burn. Kinda like picking on the slow kid.
  22. you can go young, but that by no means insinuates that you will improve your current production. Going young down a stretch run against teams like NY, Tampa and Texas is not a good way to go unless the players are so good that they just cannot miss (a la Chamberlain, Papelbon, or Price in yrs past).
  23. Only one is enough. You need to have 3 pitchers whom you can reasonably count on to give you innings and keep you in the game on a regular basis. The other two spots can be up for grabs assuming your offense is strong.
  24. and therein lies the issue. You have two legit starters who are rollin in Beckett and Lester. After that, you have 3 guys who either dont throw strikes (Buchholz) or throw too many in the wrong location (Smoltz and Penny). And right now, it doesnt look like the reinforcements are coming any time soon.
