  1. Hey man, I am a yankee fan. Our teams are always filled with divas and negative press. Hell, we had Clemens throw a bat handle at Piazza in the world series in a fit of roid rage. But he won. Once he sucked, he was useless to us.
  2. but a flier is a minor league deal. 5 mil for a player is not a flier.
  3. so you are guaranteeing me that Bowden or Buchholz would be better than Chad Gaudin THIS yr. You are guaranteeing me this with the above post. Gaudin is terrible. He is awful. But I do think he can give us 5IP 3-4ER performances consistently. I am asking for 5 inning per start and an ERA between 5.4 and 7.2. That isnt too much to ask for IMO.
  4. As the #5 starter, a guy we can theoretically skip a lot. If they are willing to move the rotation around when the #5 slot comes around, then Mitre or whomever is in the #5 slot will only pitch 8 more times this yr. Also, I highly doubt Mitre is in the rotation come next week. I bet Gaudin will be there, a guy whose FIP is pretty good and someone who I think can give us 5IP and 3-4ER on a regular basis unlike Mitre.
  5. No, I wouldnt like negative press. But then again, if those players produced, then I'd have to look the other way
  6. Both team's depth has been challenged. But, at this time, the yankees arent about to dip back into the very back of their depth. The sox, in all likelihood, will.
  7. I think they could eventually. I actually think both will surpass MLB average eventually. That being said, your depth will be tested. If Penny, Buchholz, and Smoltz continue this charade, those guys will be in the majors for a stretch run. This is not like looking down at a 9th or 10th option here. And no, NY has no Oswalts for the stretch. But as of right now, there isnt a dire need to a pitcher to stem the tide since the O and the pitching have been good.
  8. why? There is no logic in that statement. It is AL Central to AL East. It is not that big of a jump
  9. that will change at about 4pm.
  10. he hasnt pitched in a major league game all season and he's old as dirt. Paul Byrd is really your savior right now? Cmon.
  11. Just wanted to point out something.... The sox next 7 games will be incredibly difficult 1. @NYY Beckett vs Burnett 2. @NYY Buchholz vs Sabathia 3. @NYY Lester vs Pettitte 4. vs DET Penny vs Jackson 5. vs DET Smoltz vs Porcello 6. vs DET Beckett vs Galarraga 7. vs DET Buchholz vs Verlander then you have 3 at Texas (one vs Millwoord), 3 at Toronto (where you might face both Romero and Halladay), then you face Chamberlain, Burnett and Sabathia in Fenway. After that, you have 4 vs the White Sox and 3 vs Toronto. Your August is BRUTAL.
  12. Tazawa has been in AAA for what, 5 starts now? He is your depth down the stretch run? Cmon now.
  13. that depth is pretty much gone. Bowden is the last bastion of that "depth" and having 2 essentially rooks in the rotation down the stretch is suicide and he knows it
  14. I dont think so. This has been Crunchy's point since well before we came to this board. Theo and Henry like guys who stay out of the headlines. And while Youk and Pedroia have personalities, they arent Pedro or Manny or Ortiz or Damon or Schilling. Those guys had personalities and were divas. Theo does not like divas.
  15. It is evaluated on a yr to yr basis. A world series title gives you a 2 yr window IMO. That window is coming to a close at the end of this yr. If they win it again, everything will be forgotten.
  16. .734OPS isnt bad at all for a pitcher. And his ERA was 3.3 when he was traded. I am sorry Dojji, but Lee would have made this team 3-5 wins better.
  17. Every GM has clunkers. Actually, most GMs make more clunkers than they do steals. Typically, a GM is forged by one or two deals that solidify the team for a decade and allow for the mistakes to get fritted away like they never happened.
  18. But the FO made it that way. They got rid of anyone with a personality.
  19. Dojji, you do know he won the Cy Young last yr in the AL Central and was putting up solid numbers again prior to the deal. He is better off in the NL. Every pitcher is better off in the NL. That being said, he would have solidified the rotation something fierce behind Lester and Beckett.
  20. Dojji, I will answer your question with another question. How can you call a move "good" if it doesnt work out? Isnt that by definition a "bad move"?
  21. Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Cubs, etc etc etc. You dont think that someone would pony up Santana or CC type money for Beckett? If you dont, then you are in denial
  22. If he signs an extension, I see the sox offering 5yrs 90mil with a team option for a 6th yr at 20 mil that vests after a certain amount of IP. If he hits the FA market, I see a 6-7 yr deal at 20 mil per yr.
  23. What is he supposed to say? f***, I shouldnt have signed that contract so now they better pay me? You are too gullible my friend. Also, why should anyone take a "home town discount" and stay with the second strongest (fiscally) franchise in baseball? That makes no sense.
  24. I dont think Halladay was an achievable goal for this deadline. I do think Lee and Washburn were.
