  1. ryan, you are a pirates fan. In most team's instances, there is always next yr. For the Pirates, there is always next decade
  2. Tex goes deep, 6-4
  3. 6-3, Jeter goes deep. Rare bad outing by Aceves
  4. Maybe I am wrong, but thats what I got out of scout.com with the added caveat that the sox portion of scout.com is miserably bad.
  5. He did before this recent downturn in performance. Prior to that 8 inning performance I post above, he was sitting mid to high 90s as a starter. That is a Bard fastball. Granted, the location is way off.
  6. Any 20 yr old who can throw 93-95 has good stuff as long as they have one plus potential offspeed offering. That being said, you dont hesitate to give them up when you have a need.
  7. the pirates have always taken quantity over quality with the hopes that one of the multitude of players steps forward and outplays his projection. We see how that has done for them. Of all their deals, the only one that was a win for them was the deal with NYY, the one that everyone killed at the time. Ohlendorf has been a good starter for them with an ERA in the 4.5 range and a WHIP in the 1.3 range. Tabata is starting to hit for average again and McCutchen is right on the verge of being in the rotation or pen for Pittsburgh. Meanmwhile, Nady is out for the yr and Marte is just about to come back after an almost 3 month layoff
  8. Dojji, it is okay to be high on pitching prospects with youth and stuff. But you dont hesitate to trade them when they are that far away. I agree with you, Strickland has good stuff for someone so young, but he is at least 4-5 yr away and is most definitely not going to make an impact in a loaded system like Boston's, so he was expendable.
  9. He is still trying to come back, but he is following the road of most shoulder surgery casualties. He gets his velocity back close to where it was, then something else hurts and he's shut down. There were a couple times in the EST that he looked vintage per reports, but those seem to be few and far between. I think he really tried to come back too soon due to the yankee needs and his age and that may have set him back. I would assume we give him another shot next season, probably starting in Tampa and if he doesnt show the good heater and curve combo, then yeah, his career would be over. I will say this. 2 yrs ago, he was considered to be our second best pitching prospect behind Hughes due to a 92-96mph deadly sinker and a knee buckling curve. Now, he's buried in our system.
  10. If we got him and added him to Coke, Aceves, Hughes and Mo, our pen would venture into the top 5 category, something that was unfathomable at the beginning of the yr. That being said, I wouldnt trade anything of significant value for him since it isnt a big time need, unless of course we are thinking of putting him in the rotation
  11. Joba has been a different pitcher since the ASB. His trip to Nebraska has done wonders.
  12. Unfortunately, this is what happens when people who have no clue how the draft works make post draft inferences. Brackman was being considered with Price as a top pick. When he went down with his injury, he was still considered a top 10 pick, but Boras' demands dropped him out of the first 29 picks. Cashman got the best talent available and met his bonus demands. He had TJ, which has an incredible success rate and now has something wrong with him, either structurally or mechanically. I agree on the move to middle relief. But something needs to be rectified. We'll see how he responds. He has a Bard type fastball, so maybe this will be his calling.
  13. your idiocy continues to amaze me. We have Joba, Aceves, Coke, and Hughes filling big roles yet you continue to harp on him. Just stupid. FYI Gom, TJ has a high success rate and Brackman was considered a top 3 pick before his injury was diagnosed. To get a player of that talent level in the 30 slot is not common
  14. Bergeson is actually pretty good, so you will have a fight on your hands. Remember, if it werent for the absolute suck that is the Oriole pen, Bergeson would have beaten you
  15. I think he has a torn labrum or rotator cuff actually, but I am hoping for the best
  16. Reyes doesnt get on base at a high clip, is injured all the time and isnt a top of the line fielder. Aside from speed and the occasional homer, he is not all that.
  17. You wouldnt happen to make a post without having all the facts, now would you? No, no way. He started the yr on fire. Had the ERA in the low to mid 3 range and was striking out well more than 1 per inning. He was sitting high 90s with a plus curve. He then had a start where he was unreal. 8IP something like 1-2 hits and double digit K's. After that, he went on the DL with an "upper body injury". Ever since he came back, he has been under 90 mph and his curve and location have been suck. Either he's hurt or he's experiencing dead arm, something that a lot of post TJ guys experience in yr 1. Regardless, there is no reason to keep throwing him out there. He is barely a college pitcher with his current stuff, let alone a yankee top prospect. I have a feeling we'll find out more in the offseason, but whatever it is, it isnt good. By late May, he was being considered for promotion to Tampa, and by mid July, he's being considered damaged goods.
  18. I would assume those are speeds as they would be from 60 feet. Cause the King and his Court, who threw maybe the hardest underhanded pitches ever, topped out in the high 70s to 81mph. But from 40 feet, that looks like 110
  19. Depends on the team we are facing and the score.
  20. Horne blew out his shoulder
  21. Wallace plus 2 other good prospects. This is a clear win for the A's IMO. They werent going anywhere this yr and they took Carlos Gonzalez, Greg Smith and Huston Street and turned them into a player with incredible power potential who will likely be their 3 or 4 hitter for a long time
  22. the yankees have a lot of intriguing AA and below guys who can bring back a guy like Harang or Garland. BTW, how far Harang has fallen. 2 yrs ago, this guy was considered a durable ace. Now, he is much more hittable
  23. Theo doesnt overpay and a blockbuster like this at the deadline is a setup for being taken advantage of. I doubt this happens this yr. I expect Gonzalez to be a hot topic this offseason and be dealt within the next 18 months, but I highly doubt he's dealt this deadline
  24. Not shocking, but the yankees are definitely looking for a starting pitcher, according to multiple media outlets. With the news that CMW is having persistent shoulder pain and needs to see Dr. Andrews, it seems like the yankees are scrambling to find a guy who can give innings. While a Halladay deal seems incredibly unlikely, a deal for a guy who can give innings, a la John Garland, seems very possible and probable. This is no knock on Sergio Mitre who pitched admirably in his first big league start in over a yr. But here is why. When the season started, our starting 5 was CC, AJ, Pettitte, Wang, and Joba. Our contingencies were Aceves, Hughes, Kennedy and Mitre down the line. Well, Wang is now out for the yr most likely. Aceves and Hughes are vital parts of the pen. Kennedy isnt going to be big league ready this yr most likely since he is post surgery. Mitre is now in the rotation. Two MiLB options have gone down as well. George Kontos, one of our better pitching prospects under went TJ a couple weeks ago. Christian Garcia, one of our most promising pitching prospects a few yrs ago, underwent surgery again. And Zach McAllister, probably our best pitching prospect at AA or higher, is on the DL with shoulder tiredness. And then consider the fact that Joba is breaking new ground at the big league level with his IP totals and the concern has to be there. A rundown of the teams out of it comes up with your standard cast of characters. Paul Byrd, who is looking for a second half team is an option. Garland and Doug Davis out of ARI are options. Halladay is a longshot. Jeremy Guthrie is another guy who could be useful assuming we overpay since the O's are in our division. Cliff Lee is a longshot. Gil Meche is a longshot and is on the DL. If the M's decide to bow out of this thing (they are only 5.5 out and are 7 games over .500) Washburn would be a very intriguing option, especially since the yankees nearly acquired him a yr ago. Cincinatti might be looking for takers on Harang and Arroyo, so its worth kicking the tires there. After that, you are looking at internal MiLB options mostly, which right now is not as deep as it has been. So, expect a deal coming soon for a pitcher. My guess is it will be Harang or Garland.
