  1. he probably will have a good line through 4 innings. But Tito never accurately predicts the implosion.
  2. I say of late and you pick an arbitrary date 6 weeks ago. I say four and you pick the fifth guy. I see, nice logic. I thought you were smart? Joba- last 3 starts- 3-0 21.2IP 1ER 16 baserunners 19K 0.41ERA 0.73WHIP Pettitte- last 4 starts- 1-1 26.2IP 7ER 27 baserunners 29K 2.36ERA 1.10WHIP Burnett- aside from his last start (which was the caveat I used in my post), he has been rolling since June 1- 7-2 63.1IP 16ER 82 baserunners 2.27ERA 1.30WHIP Sabathia- he's been the worst of them. Last 4 games, 26.2IP 33H 13ER 5BB 19K for a 4.38ERA and a 1.42WHIP Now, I made the caveat that the sox top 2 have been untouchable and they really skew the stats of the sox starters. Outside of Lester and Beckett, here are your starters of late... Buchholz - last 4 starts 19.1IP 13ER 39 baserunners 6.05ERA 2.02WHIP Smoltz- last 3 starts 16.2IP 17ER 27 baserunners 9.17ERA 1.62WHIP Penny- last 4 starts 22.1IP 18ER 33 baserunners 7.27ERA 1.48WHIP So yeah, I would consider the yankees top 4 rolling and the sox starters outside of Lester and Beckett scuffling. It isnt rocket science there captain
  3. For comparison... Yankees starters 42-28 617.2IP 630H 313ER 245BB 488K 4.56ERA 1.42WHIP Yankees starters without CC and Burnett 21-16 330.2IP 368H 188ER 137BB 257K 5.11ERA 1.53WHIP the numbers outside of the top 2 on both teams are close, but the yankees have the better WHIP and the significantly better ERA. That being said, those numbers are skewed by a guy who isnt even there anymore in Wang, whose ERA of 11.38 and WHIP of 2.18 over 34 innings skew the numbers significantly.
  4. Sox are 8-9 since the break, so I can see why he's frustrated. Also, the red sox starters this season have the following numbers. 46-31 4.54ERA 628IP 678H 317ER 203BB 529K 1.40WHIP. Most of those numbers (aside from K's) sit right in the middle of the majors with the yankees. But where the sox have had the biggest trouble is when a pitcher other than Lester or Beckett takes the hill. Here are the numbers of those guys... 24-20 5.38ERA 345IP 418H 206ER 116BB 239K 1.55WHIP. That is a massive dropoff from the top two to your 3-5. That is not something that will win.
  5. Billy Traber, man, one of our failed LH specialist experiments. I'll tell you now, he sucks
  6. Longoria always kills the sox. On a night when he strikes out 4 times, he still hits the game tying and game winning homers. You do not pitch to him. Zobrist has been a great story, but he is no Evan Longoria. Pitching to him with 2 outs and a base open was beyond stupid.
  7. you improve your chances of winning a title if you make the playoffs on a consistent basis. Cmon man, dont be dumb. I dont like how the team has operated and would not ascribe to that philosophy if I was a GM, but you cannot argue with results. 4 titles, 6 world series appearances, 13 consecutive seasons in the playoffs.
  8. Once you place a player on waivers, teams have 48 hours to put claims in. If a player clears waivers over those 48 hours, then that player can be dealt anytime to any team before the end of August.
  9. Zach Greinke is my CY right now. Beckett is probably my #2 based on team performance and team reliance.
  10. he has a quick bat and some good skills. That being said, I have no idea why he is up with the sox when he obviously needs more time
  11. The Yankees have proven you can try to win now at all costs and then throw money at acute issues. It hasnt translated to world titles, but it has translated into a long sustained playoff run. THat is the only way to guarantee winning now and later. I think a700 is hoping for the sox to empty the bank on a guy who would be around for awhile without completely f***ing up the core of the team.
  12. every team tries to float every player through waivers. All it is is extra people you can discuss in deals. Most of those players, they have no intent on trying to move
  13. its 48 hours and the player is placed on revocable waivers. If they pass through waivers, then the player can be dealt through the end of August. Now, if a team claims the player, 3 things can happen. The red sox would rescind the player back off waivers. The could let the other team take the player, thereby making the accepting team eat the entire rest of the contract. OR, they could work out a trade within 48 hours of the claim.
  14. Its a blue day for the sky folks, a blue day for the sky
  15. So, the sox have Penny and Smoltz in the next 2 nights, and right now are hoping to get to the 12th. Oh boy, that pen is gonna be hurting
  16. As a player growing up, a good catcher was worth his weight in gold. But the standards as a kid entail being able to block routine pitches and be able to get a throw down to second. To me, a catcher can call whatever he wants. The pitcher is still gonna shake him off if he wants to for the most part. And framing may fool the novice umpire. But a good umpire watches where the ball crosses and not where it is caught. Therefore, I dont care about a catcher's calling ability or framing ability. I do care if they can block routine balls and make the throw to second. If they cannot do that, then they shouldnt catch. If they can do that, then great. Posada and VMart can do this.
  17. And I am not knocking the sox development team. But not everything they touch turns to gold
  18. you gotta be s***ing me
  19. Upton flat out sucks this yr
  20. its about to not matter
  21. He doesnt need a fact finding mission. These guys know what they are on. I also dont think he has to worry about illegal drugs. A lot of these pro-steroids are legal over the counter supplements that metabolize to steroids. I went to GNC and was appalled as to what was in the supplement aisle
  22. how bout Buchholz thus far. And Masterson wasnt lighting the world on fire
