  1. Lee was always necessary, in the Yankee sense of the word. They have three starters locked down for 2011 and one of them is AJ Burnett. That's not going to fly. Lee is a Yankee.
  2. I am still in shock after this move. I still want the Sox to sign Martin, get Fuentes and Guerrier or two other bullpen arms. I'd be happy with these three moves, and sitting back until March. Question for the "trade Ellsbury" camp: Do you then trade for Beltran? Magglio and Willingham wouldn't be options since LF is taken. I'm not sure I move Ellsbury at such a low value.
  3. Also, this means no more 6 SB games against the Sox, which is a perk.
  4. Ellsbury is definitely expendable. Beltran depends on how much salary the Mets eat, I'd think.
  5. On the other side, it motivates the Yankees to go even harder for Lee. I don't think the Yankees sit and watch the Sox get the two best position players of the offseason and do nothing.
  6. I threw it together quickly. I don't really love him leadoff because of the OBP.
  7. Wow this is surprising. To be honest it's probably not what I would have done, but it's exciting. It's a huge contract, probably more than he is worth and it will probably be ugly in years 5-7. But this team is going to very good and very fun to watch in the next few years. And of course, the lineup projections. This is kinda tough. Crawford Pedroia Gonzalez Youkilis Ortiz Drew Saltalamacchia Scutaro/Lowrie Ellsbury There's no more L/R balance, so how would you make it?
  8. You know what I realized? 2011 is the JD Drew farewell tour for his time with the Sox, in all likelihood. Will he be honored in every city? Plaques? Should he take a lap around the park after the game? Will Talksox suffer with no Drew arguments?
  9. Not thrilled about Jenks' serious downward trend the last few years. I think there are better options.
  10. I know my submission won't count since there have already been moves, but I'm just adding this for fun. C-Russell Martin 1B-Adrian Gonzalez 2B-Dustin Pedroia SS-Marco Scutaro 3B-Kevin Youkilis LF-Josh Willingham CF-Jacoby Ellsbury RF-JD Drew DH-David Ortiz SP-Jon Lester SP-Clay Buchholz SP-Josh Beckett SP-John Lackey SP-Daisuke Matsuzaka CP-Jonathan Papelbon SU-Daniel Bard SU-Brian Fuentes MR-Matt Guerrier MR-Felix Doubront MR-Scott Atchison LR-Tim Wakefield B-Jason Varitek B-Jed Lowrie B-Mike Cameron B-Darnell McDonald I would absolutely love this roster.
  11. Hmm true. What about Fuentes or Rhodes? And I'm not terribly surprised about the asking price for Willingham. I didn't realize how good his numbers are until I looked today.
  12. I don't see Lee as a real possibility anyway. My ideal off-season has the Sox signing Downs, Guerrier, Martin and trading for Willingham. How much do we think Willingham will take anyway?
  13. I'd like Martin. I doubt he would cost much, and at least he has proven he can be good, which Salty has not. Question: If a player is Type A but wasn't offered arbitration, the team that signs him doesn't lose any picks, correct? If so, I'd go after Guerrier.
  14. Absolutely do not put Beltre in the outfield. That's absurd. He's a phenomenal fielding 3B, moving him takes away a great deal of his value.
  15. I think Magglio is most realistic at this point and I like him as a 1 year option before Kalish takes over. I would love to see him as a 6 hitter at Fenway if he can stay healthy.
  16. My favorite reaction: "It makes some of our contracts look good"--Mets GM Sandy Alderson.
  17. I know everything about the trade is in the Hot Stove thread, but now that we have officially acquired Gonzalez, it is no longer hot stove material (I also don't want to clutter a thread that will inevitably have more new material in the future). So this thread is for discussion of the team's new star. Go.
  18. Also, while I wanted Werth, I wouldn't be thrilled if the Sox signed him to that deal. That's too many years and too much money for someone who really has only had 3 full seasons in the league. I wanted the Sox to sign him, but that deal makes me feel better about it not happening.
  19. QB-Joe Flacco RB-Steven Jackson RB-Ladainian Tomlinson WR-Larry Fitzgerald WR-Percy Harvin WR-Devery Henderson WR-Braylon Edwards TE-Brent Celek RT-Vernon Carey RG-Deuce Lutui C-John Sullivan LG-Chris Kemoeatu LT-Jordan Gross DE-Dwight Freeney DE-Igor Olshansky NT-BJ Raji OLB-Anthony Spencer OLB-Daryl Smith ILB-Patrick Willis ILB-Demeco Ryans CB-Asante Samuel CB-Vontae Davis FS-Dashon Goldson SS-Quentin Mikell K-Nick Folk P-Brett Kern KR/PR-Danny Amendola Coach-Ken Wisenhunt Bench-Ryan Fitzpatrick Bench-Tyson Alualu I believe I have a very solid team all around, with no serious flaws. My linebacker core is where I shine the most I believe, with Patrick Willis and Demeco Ryans absolutely dominating the inside. I have arguably the best receiver in the game in Fitzgerald, along with Percy Harvin, an excellent second option. Steven Jackson is one of the best backs in the game, and doesn't get enough recognition due to being in St. Louis. Flacco is a very good young QB and will continue to improve as a player and a leader. I'm not saying my team is spectacular but again I do not see any serious flaws, and I think it can compete with any team.
  20. Kurt Suzuki. You heard it here first. Or fourteenth.
  21. Not gonna lie, I completely forgot about Lowrie. I agree, try to trade Scutaro, perhaps in a deal for a reliever.
  22. Haha I was at the BB&T Classic in DC and had shoddy internet. YoukOwnsYou Coco always delivers But yeah, pass on Coco. If we can't get Crawford (and we won't), then I'm all for Kalish and Cameron splitting time. Though if Kalish is getting 450 ABs this year, I don't know how I feel about Saltalamacchia also playing every day. Anyway, time for the lineup as it stands now: Ellsbury Pedroia Gonzalez Youkilis Ortiz Drew Cameron/Kalish Scutaro Saltalamacchia Edits?
  23. I'm on my phone checking quickly. Can someone tell me what happened? Did the Sox get him/contract? Nevermind, saw the above posts. What's your complaint now GoBruins? Moron.
