  1. I still think Pettitte comes back, but if he doesn't, I'd guess Nova and an acquisition round out the rotation. And just for discussion's sake: what about converting Joba Chamberlain to starter again?
  2. Just saw the Anna's discussion. Best place ever. It was my first destination when I got back from college.
  3. ALE-Red Sox ALC-White Sox ALW-Athletics ALWC-Yankees NLE-Phillies NLC-Cardinals NLW-Rockies NLWC-Giants
  4. Last three years for Wheeler: 2008: 3.12 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 7.2 K/9, 142 ERA+, 4.49 FIP, .202 BABIP 2009: 3.28 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 7.0 K/9, 133 ERA+, 4.48 FIP, .203 BABIP 2010: 3.35 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 8.6 K/9, 118 ERA+, 4.11 FIP, .243 BABIP Consistently low BABIP the last three years, so hopefully that continues as opposed to reverting to the mean. His career BABIP is .285. Bill James projects a 2.87 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 8.04 K/9, 4.19 FIP and .255 BABIP. He's not the primary setup man or even the secondary setup man, so I'd say this is a good deal. It seemed the Sox were not very interested in Fuentes or at least the money and years required to get him, so I'd rather get a quality righty than a mediocre lefty.
  5. http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/mlb/news/story?id=5932676 Sox got Wheeler.
  6. The Yankees will have a higher payroll at the start of the season. At the very least they'll probably sign Pettitte. But I have to say, with the offseason the Red Sox have had this year, the rivalry is really back, and that's further shown by the comparable payrolls. The Red Sox have nothing to complain about anymore with regards to money. The last two years have been fairly Yankee-dominated, at least in the end result. But these teams are going to be fighting until the end, and there's a good chance they'll meet in the ALCS.
  7. I wouldn't trade Papelbon. He's obviously not at his highest value, and the bullpen isn't a strength to be dealing from. Keep him for 2011, then let him go and get the picks.
  8. I figure the moobs are a part of the package. I meant the goatee. So the bullpen now: Papelbon Bard Jenks Doubront Atchison Wakefield Add a lefty and be done with that. Then figure out who's taking the fourth spot on the bench. I can't think of anything else to be done besides more depth signings (everyone's favorite).
  9. I'm not the biggest fan of Jenks, but okay. He's not going to be the closer or even the primary setup man. Just don't bring this s***: http://landoftheleaf.com/files/2009/04/bobby-jenks-pink-goatee.jpg
  10. Good move. They've added three very good hitters this offseason to their lineup in Matsui, DeJesus and Willingham. It's not a great lineup, but it'll get on base a ton, and they already have one of the best rotations in the league. They're a contender. If they can swap out Kouzmanoff for a real, productive 3B, even better.
  11. As we have learned this off-season, if it's not rumored or projected to happen, it won't happen. Good luck to Crawford with the Angels and Lee with the Yankees.
  12. I hear Steve Bartman just moved to New York, too.
  13. Never heard this, and it's not going to happen.
  14. On the topic of the AL West, I wouldn't be surprised if Oakland is a serious contender. They have an outstanding rotation which could be the best in the AL: Cahill/Braden/Anderson/Gonzalez/McCarthy or Mazzaro. If they can get Beltre, their offense isn't so awful either.
  15. He's not even a roster filler. He'll fight for a job in ST. I don't see the point in overreacting to these kinds of signings. Him and Brandon Duckworth won't be facing A-Rod in the 9th. It's not a big deal.
  16. He would be a depth signing, as the article says. He's not replacing someone like Guerrier or Fuentes. Nothing wrong with that; not every signing is Carl Crawford.
  17. Oh for sure, there will be a bunch of rumors, but it just won't happen.
  18. I think the Mariners have made it pretty clear he isn't available.
  19. So, uh, what do the Yankees do now?
