  1. Iglesias should play a full season in the low minors this year, not be a backup infielder. I don't mean to sound like a dick, but I think that's a really bad idea.
  2. He does have a league leading MTPHSTM of 67, but his UZRs the past three years are -11.5, -18.4 and -13, respectively. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=lf&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=0&season=2009&month=0
  3. Whoever said Iglesias might be on the 25 man roster this year (too lazy to look two pages back): no. He's 19 and has no professional experience. Wait until 2012 at the earliest.
  4. I have, but I don't think it matters as much as you think. Scouting reports are so advanced today that it's not necessary to see a player to get a good understanding of their skills. But maybe that's just me.
  5. No, I'm putting the three best outfielders with no regard to position, because it's not a real team.
  6. Michael Barrett is terrible. C-Forfeit. Every FA catcher sucks. 1B-Nick Johnson 2B-Orlando Hudson SS-Miguel Tejada 3B-Chone Figgins OF-Matt Holliday OF-Jason Bay OF-Johnny Damon DH-Hideki Matsui SP-John Lackey SP-Rich Harden SP-Aroldis Chapman SP-Ben Sheets SP-Erik Bedard CP-Jose Valverde Didn't do specific OF positions.
  7. The Blue Jays probably have the worst farm system in baseball. Even with the bounty they would get for Halladay, it would probably still be the worst in the East.
  8. Talksox looks fine on my iPhone if I just type the regular URL instead of the mobile one.
  9. Thinking about a Johnson trade, I think the Bedard to Seattle deal is a reasonable place to look. Both were coming off of very good career years. Bedard was a few years older. The Orioles got Adam Jones, George Sherrill, Chris Tillman and two other prospects. That's a pretty enormous value. I don't know who it would take, if Florida is even going to consider a trade, but I think that's a good comparison. Of course, Bedard was a LHP and had played more full seasons.
  10. Cubs traded Aaron Heilman to Arizona, per Heyman.
  11. Not a surprise at all that he rejected, but here is Joe Sheehan's reaction:
  12. Good, I think he should have. Two in a row. It's nice to see that voters aren't giving Wins as much weight as they have in the past. Greinke and Lincecum have 16 and 15, respectively.
  13. And it's a lot easier to find a .861 OPS at 1B than catcher. There were 16 first basemen this season with an OPS higher than Martinez's, but only one catcher. An .861 OPS is an .861 OPS, but when you have a guy who can play both positions, offensively he is exceedingly more valuable at catcher. It's not even close.
  14. He doesn't lose all value, but I think it does go down. Offensively, as a catcher he's one of the few best in the game. As a 1B he's middle of the pack.
  15. Yeah, or if Derek Jeter went back to the Pirates.
  16. Theo declined the option, Varitek picked it up. And the .779 OPS Varitek is gone. He's been brutal the past two years.
  17. Theo very nearly traded for Dye in 2007.
  18. Yeah, I guess. I wasn't really thinking about his health question marks, but the original report said "could be sidelined until May". I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong because I very well may be, that the four months was only if he took surgery.
  19. They're more deserving than Jeter, but the whole GG award system is so flawed it's become cliche to call it flawed. It's more like the best fielder who is also a good hitter.
  20. Going into the ALCS I thought the Sox were going to win too, but of course after 3-0 I considered it basically over. Even after Game 5, we had two games in New York with an injured Schilling in Game 6, and at the time Wakefield was slated for Game 7. But it all worked out.
  21. Obviously I've never been to a YS playoff game, but playoff games are awesome in general to be at. I was at 2004 ALCS Game 5 and 2007 World Series Game 1, those are probably my favorites (the WS game was a blowout, but it's my only World Series game).
