  1. What a night for hockey it was. Maine-Mich State, BC-No Dakota, Rangers-Canadiens, Bruins-Sabres.... well 3 out of 4 ain't bad.
  2. This thread should be titled "Schilling OVERANALYZES Poor Start"
  3. When has this ever stopped them from going after someone? Just makes someone else expendable.
  4. The Sox certainly knew what was on the horizon in terms of upcoming free-agent CFs back when they let Damon walk and acquired Crisp. Crisp's time may have been limited anyway. As science teachers like to say "nothing happens in a vacuum." Depending on stuff like Schilling coming off the books and being replaced by a lower priced option, the potential for a Manny trade, etc. we could see the Sox go hard for Hunter, Jones or Suzuki.
  5. True, but fickle they are... They boo ARod early in the game for his E. Then they boo him when he K's. Then they demand a curtain call after he homers in the 8th with the Yanks already up 7-5. Curtain call? Please. A mile wide and and inch deep is the Yankee fan base.
  6. apologize for not reading through all the posts but did ARod commit an error yet?
  7. Adam: You are pretty bright, I don't know why these guys can't see your native intelligence or appreciate your obviously prestigious college education. Exactly what year did you graduate from Yale?
  8. As much as it pains me to say it, I believe the Yankees will win the east again. I see the Sox as a wildcard contender. I still think the Yankees line-up is better, their closer is still the best in the game, and they always seem to have the wherewithall to (1) withstand injuries and (2) swing midseason deals that no one else is willing or able to make. Hope I am wrong, I'd love for the Sox to dethrone those f***ers.
  9. If they want a left-handed hitting first baseman I'd prefer they attempt to get Nick Johnson out of Washington, although since he makes a lot less than Helton they'd have to pony up some significant pieces of the young pitching corps.
  10. When interviewed, Karstens stated "I generally don't mind "going down" on the guys, but not like this ."
  11. Hansen looked absolutely horrible this last time out. Hitting guys, walking guys. What the fuk is he doing out there? He throws with the oddest arm motion, it was weird when he first came up, but now its just plain funny. He is all fkd up.
  12. I posted most of this elsewhere but it really belongs here. If Roger plays I say the likely place would be New York, followed by Houston and I think Boston is unlikely, because of his ego and the legacy he wants to leave behind. If he goes to Boston and they don't make the playoffs, it was a waste to come back. Even worse, if they make the playoffs and he falters, well it's the same old Roger in Boston when it comes to big games...a blister here, an implosion there and the "legend" just can't get it done in Boston. While it makes for a nice story, that story is only nice if he excels. Going to the NYY is a much easier way to give himself a chance at another WS title AND not risk his bloated ego, his self-importance, etc. He's already won the WS with them...no pressure there. Plus he knows that they'll do what it takes, or at least try, to improve the team somewhat regardless of cost. - Going to Boston is risky to a guy with his need for continuos adulation. - Staying in Houston is less risky because Houston could simply suck this year, thus no pressure on Rog. But does he want to ride into the sunset on a team with no real chance? - Going to the NYY, IMO, gives him the best opportunity to (1) win (2) be adored and (3) not risk his legacy. I say he winds up in pinstripes if he plays at all. Just my hunch
  13. I can name a reason for him to go to NY versus Boston...his ego and his desired legacy. If he goes to Boston and they don't make the playoffs, it was a waste to come back. 14. If this is true, I'd have to agree with my esteemed colleague Mr. Crunchy and conclude the FO is rudderless.
  15. A former Bruin, Colton Orr, knocked a Flyer out last night. My guess is the Bruins moved him because he was good at what he did. Can't have that.
  16. On NESN this a.m. they had on some writer who is covering the Sox. Might have been Edes. He said indications are that it'll be Tavares.
  17. Another shutout for the B's last night, they lose 1-0 to the Habs and show ZERO effort. Good. I hope they fkn tank the season, although I'm not sure the high draft pick will help since their scouts apparently suck.
  18. neither was Detroit's and they were in the WS last year.
  19. where's that? In Suoht Amrecia?
  20. If Thabeet is seriously considering coming out then Oden still has to be strongly considering the draft.
  21. AAA for Hughes, mid-season call-up is what I've heard. The kid looks good, but hopefully he will get a case of Pavano-itis and his gynecologist will keep him out down the stretch.
  22. As a matter of fact I remember a particular game Against Seattle in 1999 when me and three buddies headed up to Fenway to see Petey pitch. We get there and after getting semi-loaded head into the stadium...its maybe 45 minutes before game time. We see some guy with number 39 long-tossing in RF, in front of the Sox pen, with the Sox catcher. I said "Something's wrong guys, who's this fkn stiff long-tossing...I think that's our pitcher today." Nahh, they keep telling me for the next 20 minutes or so. A little before game time we see Petey stroll through the bullpen, come out on the field, shaking hand with the opposing players, goofing around, etc. and now we know he ain't pitching. Turns out this was the game where he showed up 30 minutes prior to game time so Jimy Williams wouldn't let him start. He did come in in the fifth or 6th and pitched well though. Who knew that in 2000 Florie would nearly be decapitated by a line drive...that was friggin gruesome, blood coming out his nose, his mouth, some say his ear too.
