  1. Crunch, I too am glad they're not going down that avenue, I don't see the brilliance in that move, especially when, despite Helton playing in Colorado, Drew is tied with Helton for HR's over the last two years, despite playing 73 games less. Too much risk in Helton considering his price tag.
  2. so your boyfriend is "the catcher"? thus the username "Thumper", I guess. just kidding...sorry, couldn't resist.
  3. agreed. In fact, while I don't put them on equal ground by any means, his '06 numbers weren't that much better than Youk's (considering the huge difference in salary). I'd rather have Nick Johnson at his salary of approx. $5.5m per year. The Nats would expect a LOT in return for him though and I doubt they're considering moving him.
  4. ya really think he's gonna raid Wilson Betemit's locker? How appalled will he be when he sees old Willie's butt plug and NAMBLA newsletters?
  5. OK all you Bruins fans...yeah, I'm talking to both of ya... Bruins got their a$$es handed ot them big time Tuesday night by the Sabres. In every category they were outplayed, but the main issue I saw was as follows and the B's have a chance to do something about it tonight. In the first period, Dave Krejci was hit by Adam Maier after the whistle, high, sending him to the ice with a concussion. The Bruins did NOTHING about it. Later Marc Savard was sent head first into the boards (may have been dressed up a little by Savard) and the B's did NOTHING. Unless the Bruins stand up for each other, physically, this team will never come together. They absolutely suk right now. Tonight thy play the Sabres again...at home. I plan to watch and see if there is any character left in this team. A poor showing tonight...void of any physicallity...will tell me that its time to move some players and try to rebuild this once proud franchise. I could see Brad Stuart hitting the road, perhaps Marco Sturm joining him. Beyond that I thinkjust about anyone who'd bring decent young talent or fdraft picks is expendable. Patrice Bergeron was thought to be the future of the organization...he's having a fair offensive season, but defensively and physically he is a no show most games. We saw fire in him last year...where has that gone? (I DO think his linemates tend to frustrate him...he's not a "do it all yourself" kinda guy like Crosby). Brad Boyes was a promising youngster two years ago...he's shown me next to nothing this year, other than a penchant for taking shifts off. Marco Sturm? Seldom involved in anyway. 12 goals, 10 assists...and a -18 rating. Primeau, Donovan, Mowers? Decent effort, but these guys are muckers, they're not going to be prolific scorers...isolated they are ok...but The B's have too many of these guys The goaltending has been crappy. Toivonen was our upcoming goalie...he possesses a 4.33 GAA and a pissy .869 SP. Tim Thomas has had some nice games but too often falters. His GAA is about 20th in the league and his SP is .901...27th in the league among those who've played 20 or more games. Marc Savard has been fantastic, save for some stupid penalties. Glen Murray is what he is. Chara has been ok, but he's pretty much on his own, and playing 28 minutes with this group of losers and holding a -9 +/- rating is really not that bad. I'm personally in the camp of tear this team up and start fresh...cuz right now they are a friggin' embarassment.
  6. So it's not the trade, but Lugo's performance, that dissapointed him. That tells me that he still thinks the trade was good based upon what he knew at the time. Since it hasn't been too long since that deal, I'd have the same reasonably high expectations for Lugo in Boston. To judge him on the short time he was in LA alone is not appropriate and that is one thing that Colletti really has not done.
  7. I still wanna know which person at the table Linda is.
  8. How'd you get a picture of you and Schill?
  9. I know he signed an extension with the Nats in early 2006, but I'm still surprised we never hear anything about the Sox looking at Nick Johnson. He's had some trouble staying healthy (back problem, bruised heel, broken leg at end of '06 I believe) but Johnson has a great OBP, is only 28 and plays a solid defensive 1B. I really doubt the Nats GM (Bowden) would move Johnson considering he has him for about $5.5m per year for three years, but you'd think a rumor or two would be floating out there, no? As for Helton, agree with Hate, he's not a #2. His presence, though, would allow Drew to hit in the 2 hole, where his OBP might be huge for the Sox. BTW, are we sure Helton's power outage is truly due to an intestinal problem? Or is it 'roid withdrawal? Gotta stay open-minded, you know.
  10. Piss? Suck ass? I've got a good mind to give you a spank bottom and I don't care who knows about it...potty mouth.
  11. bitch-slappin' or kicking a guy on the ground and running away doesn't count as a "brawl". In soccer the true brawls are in the stands and it ain't cuz the fans are getting overexcited over the 0-0 contest or because tremendous physical battles on the field are inspiring them. Soccer is a decent sport, the players are well conditioned and I actually like watching now and then, but there is a reason its viewed as a pu$$y sport by many (not I, but I understand the perception) in our country.
  12. I'm sure the Sabres were stoked over their victory versus the hapless B's. NHL All-star game is here....and no one gives a flying fuk from what I can tell.
  13. Understood, and good points. Essentially you could take any position and look at a guys performance relative to his peers and to accurately compare you'd have to consider the team he's on, the scheme they use, their coaching ability, etc. so it'll always be hard to to say who's truly the best.
  14. As I recall Peyton had very little success versus the Pats throwing downfield in the first half. Then they made and adjustment and threw underneath, IMO taking advantage of the Pats linebackers. Whoever made that adjustment was right on. I don't care if its a 7 yard out or a 50 yard bomb, you've gotta execute and generally that is exactly what Brady does.
  15. i don't recall Sean, but surely there must be some explanation for Brady's success other than his own talent. Hey, let's get even more ridiculous: Kurt Warner was as good as any of these guys in his prime. Too bad his prime lasted only one season. Oh and let's totally discount the fact that Faulk had 87 catches and rushed for 5.5 yards per game, he had Bruce and Holt an Hakim and Proehl to throw to, Dick Vermeil did a great job coaching and Mike Martz was then considered an offensive genius (Martz was subsequently "figured out" by every team in the NFL and his candy-a$$ play calling at crucial junctures turned a potentially great team into a one-hit wonder). But it was all Kurt. Kurt was great in his prime.
  16. Agree, Crunch, he is dragging that organization down, or more accurately, whomever in the FO is in love with him is doing the org. a disservice. Not that I think Ingle Martin is the future of this organization, but the sooner the Pack moves in a different direction, the better for the team, IMO. BTW, they clear another $10m or so in cap room if Favre retires.
  17. Sounds a little like Hansen to me. Memo to Sox...Don't rush this kid.
  18. I'm guessing this ridiculous post is simply the misguided frustration of a Giants or Jets fan. Take yer pick.
  19. Vermont is pretty good this year, currently ranked 6 in the country. BC is at 17, one spot ahead of my alma mater, the mighty Quinnipiac University Bobcats. Seems to be somewhat of a resurgence in some of the Northeast teams...UNH is ranked 2...Maine, always good, is 5. Clarkson is up to 8 now. Over time things have changed in the hockey world. Many of the best North American players used to play Juniors in Canada, bypassing college, and then go pro from there. With the influx of European players in the NHL, making it more difficult to make the NHL, I think many North American players are looking at hockey more as a way to (1) pay for their educations, and (2) MAYBE play at a higher level someday. Its no wonder some of the best academic schools have excellent hockey programs (Harvard, Cornell, Dartmouth, BC, BU, Clarkson, ND, Colgate, RPI, etc.) As I recall when I went to Quinny the team had many former CT high schoolers, and not usually the best ones either. The ones I knew were fkn blockheads. Now? The roster shows 27 kids, 16 or so Americans (8 from the Great Lakes region) the rest from all over Canada (BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario). And I'm willing to bet these kids aren't morons.
