2. Five Years Ago Today
3. He better.
4. All fair points. I think this thread has run its course.
5. Wow. Thomas has been terrible to start this season.

8. As mentioned earlier in the tread, the title was a play on words. It was more of a discussion of Drew's worth to the team and the Theo interview from last week. No offense, but I find this comparison pretty laughable. You're comparing major league ballplayers to what amounts to a club soccer team. Let's not even discus the differences between the sports, either. The Pedroia and Welker comparisons are crap because those two are immensely talented. Pedroia probably has the best hand-eye coordination I've ever seen in a hitter and Welker has the uncanny ability to stop on a dime without losing a step. Just because they are small white guys, does that mean they are less talented than a guy like Drew? Doesn't make sense to me. Absolutely. Does that mean the accountant has underachieved, o doesn't get the most out of his skills? THIS IS EXACTLY THE POINT OF THE THREAD. Drew gets a bad rap, whether it be from the idiots on WEEI, or the drunk who used to manage him in STL. It's not warranted. It simply isn't. To say Drew doesn't care because he appears without emotion is prtty intellectually dishonest.
9. I know exactly which game you are talking about. I'm proving a point. Please tell me the game and the alleged inning he asked out. you must have hated it when Manny threw that AB against Rivera last season.
10. Those numbers used to be a lot worse though. He's improved agains the Sox and this game isn't at Fenway, which is where he really struggles. If Lackey pitches into the 7th, the Angels should win. If he's out earlier than that, the Sox will probably win. simple as that.
11. What game did Drew ask out of? What inning did it happen?
12. which of the three are you referring to? (i know which one im making a point though)
13. Because he's done that before...
14. If the Sox win tonight, the Angels will once more begin doubting themselves. Let's do that.
15. Crunch, that's an awesome list of right fielders, now tell me those who were available in the 2006 offseason. As for Abreu, Drew has close to a .100 lead in OPS and is a much, much better outfielder. "doesn't stack up statistically"? are you kidding me?
16. Matt Kemp is the best CF in baseball.
17. You call him the 10th best RF, I'd challenge you to name the 9 who are better. Also, how many more RBIs would Drew need for you to feel he was worth his contract?
18. f*** 7/8 isn't bad
19. Cardinals with bases loaded already, no out.
20. Sox in 4 Yankees in 3 Phillies in 4 Cardinals in 4 Sox in 7 Cardinals in 6 Sox in 6
21. He's never been much of a goal scorer though. The Krejci deal looks better and better every day
22. I disagree, because you can score runs without being driven in via an RBI. I will say that the runs scored stat was more to show his elite OBP skills.
23. OK, try this one on for size then: A of 9/29, here are the amounts of baserunners on base while the player is up to bat:
Victor Martinez|454 David Ortiz|444 Jason Bay|433 Kevin Youkilis|400 Dustin Pedroia|399 Jacoby Ellsbury|388 Mike Lowell|368 J.D. Drew|317 Jason Varitek|304 Alex Gonzalez|253
Numbers courtesy SoSH At that time, Drew had 70 less runners on base than the Red Sox leadoff hitter. Drew, however, scored 84 runs this season. 10 less than Jacoby Ellsbury in 152 fewer plate appearances. To say Drew doesn't contribute to the offense is simply incorrect and dishonest. The reason Drew doesn't drive in a lot of runs is because of lineup construction. His skillset is the reason that he scores runs at an incredible rate. I don't think RBIs are worthless. They directly lead to runs, which helps the team win. But when looking at individual performances, there are far superior statistics to use when judging players.
