  1. Wasn't that the same avatar Adam had?
  2. Nava is somewhat intriguing. Dojj is right in the fact that he isn't exactly your prototypical 26/27 yr old minor leaguer given his past. Obviously he's not anywhere near a definite but if he keeps posting a .900+ OPS in AA and then into AAA then he'll definitely get a chance eventually.
  3. The only reason this is a story is because he followed #2
  4. Well let me offer a little insight into how things work. The Boston Herald is the go-to newspaper for the Red Sox front office. They feed them stories about Casey Kotchman and other grand ideas. The Boston Globe which is associated with Boston Dirt Dogs is basically the opposite, they just s*** on everything.
  5. This is like 90% of posters here
  6. This isn't your 2009 Chris Duncan. He was coming off a .952 OPS season as a 25 year old. Btw weren't you the one that said Youk is "not that good", "close to peak performance", and "not a long term answer at either corner"? Personally I think he's turned out a little better then that
  7. You're right, no one except those in the front offices really knows what happened. But until anyone ever finds out you can't go around painting a picture that this is all on the Red Sox FO and then try to justify why we should all be upset. If you haven't noticed revenues across MLB have been increasing and the Red Sox are no exception. Again dispute the fact that a reputable source has shown a large increase in revenue across the 07-09 span. Sure thing Gom
  8. You don't need to speak for everyone, we all know you're just saying all this to be a ****. Does payroll tell the entire story? The forbes player expenses shows 146-199-165 mil expenses over that 07-09 time period. Payroll doesn't include money being paid out to other teams, international signings, dice-k's costs, etc. If the Red Sox are say 30mil under their payroll 'budget' there aren't multiple all-star FAs out there who will take a one year deal to fill that payroll gap. You have to make LONG TERM investments in those players. The Red Sox have clearly shown they have a plan that they stick to. They saw Mark Teixiera as a possible solution and made a run at him. They've stated they don't get into bidding wars and refused to play that 180mil game with the Yankees. Now they have an opportunity to make investments in players they want (Lackey) and have thus used their NEW FOUND revenue increases to make those moves.
  9. The facts are right in front of you. The Red Sox revenue has gone up a ton in the last couple years making it NOW possible to afford this payroll. Again you know NOTHING about the Red Sox revenue streams. Maybe popularity has increased? Maybe they've made strong investments? No one on this message board really knows yet the fact that the revenue has gone up is clearly documented.
  10. Your argument has been debunked MULTIPLE times in this thread. You've just decided to ignore the relevant posts.
  11. The Red Sox revenue was 206 mil in 2006. Just three years later it is at 269mil. That's a 63mil difference. YET, you claim the Red Sox have ALWAYS had the ability to spend this much money despite the fact that revenue has increased in such a huge way in an extremely short period of time. How can this be made any more clear cut?
  12. Gom, how do you know what the Red Sox can and can't do financially? IF the payroll goes up another 20mil then they will be around 170, but until then they are around 150. How do you know if the Red Sox can SUSTAIN a payroll that high for multiple years without suffering losses in player development/etc.?
  13. How could anyone possibly know this? You really don't think the Red Sox have made ANY competitive offer?
  14. Is any player in baseball going anywhere? never seems like anyone is allowed to
  15. Ellsbury is the center piece of the trade (cost-controlled, and a top offensive CF) so substituting Bard and Weiland doesn't really work. And we already are spending 5-6mil on Scutaro, he HAS to play somewhere so Beltre is clearly not an option if we got Hanley.
  16. Here's my plan: Trade for Hanley: Ellsbury, Kelly, Anderson, Kalish, Pimental 1. Scutaro 3B 2. Pedroia 2B 3. Ramirez SS 4. Youkillis 1B 5. Martinez C 6. Ortiz DH 7. Drew RF 8. Cameron CF 9. Hermida/Reddick LF 1. Lester 2. Beckett 3. Lackey 4. Matsuzaka 5. Buchholz CL Papelbon Set-up Bard Set-up Okajima MR Delcarmen MR Ramirez MR Richardson LR Boof Farm system still includes Westmoreland/Rizzo/Reddick/Tazawa/Iglesias/Bowden/etc
  17. He's damn lucky Cain and Lincecum are as good as they are other wise his incompetence as a GM really shows. He's never been good at signing FA's and the offense he currently has is absolutely horrible.
  18. Well we have two SS to begin with. If we ever did add Hanley then either Hanley or Scutaro moves over to 3B.
  19. Well Theo made a big run at the 23 year old ace of an above .500 team, I don't think you can rule anything out.
