  1. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Lester82 makes a completely noninflammatory (the smiley wasnt necessary but im talking about the next post) post and you AND emmz are both on his ass instantly with the accusations.
  2. Old fight? This is the same stuff I've been reading for the past couple months, you guys are still dicks to everyone, especially Dojj.
  3. can all you pots stop calling the kettle black
  4. Cameron is good for 24 HR or so
  5. Someone tried to make this argument on SOSH and it just doesn't hold all that well. That defensive alignment shows a +80 point swing or roughly 8 additional wins which is in no way shape or form realistic. Particularly Ellsbury who has a +40 point swing just by switching to LF. Those LF metrics were accumulated during a time when Ellsbury was supposedly a +16.5 CF also. Is the defense improved? Sure, by how much? It's hard to tell because UZR has a lot of flaws and at the same time the offensive hit from going from Bay to Cameron is pretty large.
  6. Woah trading Buchholz for Morneau??? The Twins would be wise to do that swap in a heart beat. I like Morneau but frankly in this field of 1B he's only slightly above average assuming a ~.870 OPS is about what he'll bring to the table.
  7. This is actually really impressive since it looks like playing in Fenway would have added an extra 17 or so XBH, many of which would be HR.
  8. Absolutely false, if he started really strong and then tapered off then I'd say you'd have an argument that he's going down. But he started slow and finished fast (each month split is at least .820+ with the other three above .900) so no I don't think a 100 game (consecutive) sample is at all cherry picking.
  9. His last 100+ games he had a .900 OPS. Is he the old David Ortiz? No, but I don't see any reason to believe he won't put up a high .800's OPS given the way he 'ended' (basically includes all but the first two months) the season.
  10. I think we can all agree Gonzalez is definitely in the upper tier of 1B...there just happens to be A LOT of company with him. IMO it's not a wise investment to trade someone like Buchholz or Ellsbury for a 1B unless he is other-worldly like Pujols.
  11. This is true though Theo mentioned in the press conference that Cameron makes up for it with the walks. Scutaro is top 30 (in all of baseball) in Pitches/PA, Cameron top 50, and Kotchman would be top 100 most likely as well so they can definitely be tough outs.
  12. Other than maybe the Yankees, no manager fears ANY bottom of the lineup. Yet there are some tough outs in the Kotchman/Scutaro/Cameron group.
  13. That's my point, the players we should be targeting in aren't available, so here's an idea: don't do anything, or at least something to the level of using all your chips on a 1B.
  14. I don't see why everyone is so against giving Kotchman a shot. He plays GG defense and is just two years removed from a ..296/.372/.467/.840 (at 24 years old). Plus he has some serious pedigree as a prospect also (former #6 BA top 100 prospect) so he definitely has talent. The Angels just suck at integrating their young talent.
  15. Pujols, Fielder, Youkillis, Howard, Tex are all definitely up to par along with Berkman, Helton, Lee, Morales, and Votto. That's nine names of very productive 1B, add Cabrera and Gonzalez and that's 11. Even if you don't need the superstar at the position, 17 guys posted OPSs over .850. There are FAR fewer SS/C/CF out there so if we are going to trade someone like Ellsbury or Buchholz it should be for Hanley/Tulo/Zimmerman type.
  16. 1. Ellsbury CF .360/.780 2. Pedroia 2B .378/.843 3. Martinez C .377/.841 4. Youkilis 3B .394/.886 5. Ortiz DH .369/.888 6. Drew RF .385/.859 7. Cameron LF .328/.756 8. Kotchmann 1B .342/.759 9. Scutaro SS .347/.728 Those are the Bill James estimates for the lineup Jacko provided. It's not the Yankees but that squad has exceptional OBP abilities and is pretty solid throughout. That is certainly a top 5 offense, and honestly I'd say a number of those predictions are pretty conservative (Youk, Martinez, Drew in particular). Plus that is possibly the best defense in the league.
  17. Clay + Ellsbury for Hanley But really I'd rather we don't waste our valuable chips on a 1B since they are a dime a dozen
  18. lol I love how Jacko and Gom ALWAYS try to jack up the prices on players we're going after/resigning
  19. Still even when you make the simple position adjustments (+2.5 runs for a CF and -7.5 for a LF) Cameron's 43 Runs above replacement becomes 43 - (2.5+7.5) = 33.2 which is only roughly 2 runs below Bays production. Though still I'm extremely skeptical of UZR so I'm not sure I trust this analysis very much.
  20. Come on now lets not overstate things. Sure they got Figgins and Lee but a realistic look at their offense shows maybe two guys who will post an OPS over .800, Ichiro and Branyan. They have solid pitching and obviously Lee+Felix will be a nice combo, but other than Felix they had only one other guy make 20 starts. Bottom line is while they are improved they still leave a lot to desire
