Game Info: Date: Monday, July 3rd, 2006 First Pitch: 7:15pm EST Location: Tropicana Field, Tampa Florida TV: NESN Starting Pitchers: http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/277417.jpg Josh Beckett 10-3 4.64 v.s. http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/431148.jpg Scott Kazmir 9-5 3.59 Game Preview The Boston Red Sox seek their 15th win in 16 contests when they open a four-game series with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Monday at Tropicana Field. Boston (50-29) had its 12-game winning streak snapped with a 5-2 loss at Florida on Friday, but rebounded to win the final two games of that set to improve to 14-1 since a season-high four-game losing skid from June 11-15. Kevin Youkilis, Jason Varitek and David Ortiz homered, and Jonathan Papelbon notched his 25th save in the Red Sox's 4-3 win over the Marlins in Sunday's series finale. Boston finished 16-2 against the National League, tying Oakland (2002) and Minnesota (2006) for the most interleague wins in a season. "Hopefully, it just means that we're playing good baseball and we can beat whoever we play," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. Right-hander Josh Beckett has done his part during the recent run and will try to collect his 11th victory when he starts the opener for Boston. Beckett (10-3, 4.64 ERA) notched his third straight win and helped spoil Pedro Martinez's return to Boston with a 10-2 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday. He allowed two runs and struck out seven in 7 2-3 innings, and has 20 strikeouts and just five walks in 21 2-3 innings to go along with a .147 opponents batting average over his last three starts. "I was just trying to go out there and do my job and help this team win," Beckett said. "I've been fortunate enough to get some offense on this little run we've put together. It seems like every night it's seven, eight, nine, 10 runs and 12 hits." Beckett faced the Devil Rays for the first time on May 25 and struck out seven over six scoreless innings in a 4-1 victory. Tampa Bay (35-47) is kicking off a tough seven-game homestand that also includes three contests against the New York Yankees. The Devil Rays are just 4-11 against Boston and New York this season. Scott Kazmir (9-5, 3.59) has two of those wins -- both against the Red Sox -- and will be facing Boston for the fourth time this season Monday. Kazmir has had success against the Red Sox in his career, going 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 10 starts, including a 2-1 mark and 3.50 ERA this season. He beat Boston twice in 11 days in April and suffered an 8-4 loss the last time he faced them on May 26, when he allowed five earned runs and eight hits in 5 1-3 innings. Boston left fielder Manny Ramirez is just 3-for-25 (.120) with one homer and eight strikeouts against Kazmir, while Ortiz is 5-for-23 (.217) with one homer and seven strikeouts. Kazmir gave up six runs and six hits in an 8-4 loss at Florida on Tuesday. The 22-year-old left-hander dropped to 5-4 with a 4.47 ERA in 11 road starts compared to a 4-1 mark and 2.36 ERA in six appearances at home. The Red Sox have won the last four meetings in this series and are 95-47 against the Devil Rays.

Sox Sign Engel Beltre (Dominican Prospect)
jsinger121 replied to jsinger121's topic in Red Sox Minor League Talk
He is a left-handed hitter with extra-base power. He has a powerful throwing arm and plays great defense in the outfield. -
Santo Domingo (AP) - the young person Engel Beltr? gave to a jump to the professionalism with the hope of being the next David Ortiz, or perhaps following the passages of Ken Griffey Jr. And he is that the Red Averages of Boston signed this Sunday to I prospect Dominican by 600 thousand dollars, the hiring more substantial than the Bostonians in Dominican territory have done. Beltr? is a pelotero of five tools, according to the executives of the Red Averages, and it is expected is a toletero future of the organization. “This he is a boy who has all the quality that can be requested to I prospect and is the most important company/signature that we have done in the country”, said the coordinator of scouts for Latin America, Johnny DiPuglia to the Associated Press. Beltr? has 16 years and means hardly and is one of four brothers, in addition to a fanatical faithful of the Red Averages. “David Ortiz is my favorite pelotero and I am thankful to the Red Averages by the opportunity that they give me”, she said to Beltr? minutes after printing his company/signature in the lucrative professional contract. Beltr? is a central gardener who has an arm of being able over the average, has a good defense and combines batting of average with jonronera capacity. Beltr? plays baseball from the seven years and one of its trainers defines it as a complete player. “This boy has all the possibilities of becoming a future star. He is a worker and a man able to shine if one stays by the good way”, said Santiago Jim?nez, trainer of equipment of small leagues in the Dominican Republic. Beltr? will be assigned to the minority circuits of the Red Averages of Boston, beginning by the complex of the equipment in the country and Liga of Summer for the next year. http://espanol.sports.yahoo.com/060702/1/1dy7t.html

Negotiations are expected to heat up this week between the Sox and second first-round draft choice Daniel Bard. The right-hander, who was the 28th overall selection out of the University of North Carolina, asked for some cool-down time after the Tar Heels fell to Oregon State in the College World Series last week. http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/sportsColumnists/view.bg?articleid=134476

Soler shouldn't even be in the majors....his stuff is soft.
-
Soler needs to stop nibbling when he has the lead.
-
Moss fell off but has started to come around. I don't think he is as good as the season as he had in 2004 but don't think he was as bad as he was in 2005.

Bruins still targeting Brendan Shanahan as well

1. Ellsbury 2. Bowden 3. Pedroia 4. Buchholz 5. Murphy 6. Lowrie 7. Martinez 8. Place 9. Soto 10. Bard

Starting this one early as I am going to Watercountry tomorrow and did not want to forget in the morning. Mods feel free to add the game preview to this post if I don't get to it in the morning. Game Info: Date: Friday, July 2nd, 2006 First Pitch: 1:00pm EST Location: Dolphin Stadium, Miami Florida TV: NESN Starting Pitchers: http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/452657.jpg Jon Lester 3-0 2.95 v.s. http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/435178.jpg Josh Johnson 7-4 2.20 Game Preview The Boston Red Sox and Florida Marlins close out their three-game series on Sunday sending two of their strongest rookies to the mound, as both pitchers look for their fourth consecutive win. Josh Johnson (7-4, 2.20 ERA) began the season in the bullpen for the Marlins (35-42), where he was 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA in seven appearances. As a starter, though, the rookie right-hander has been dominant, holding opponents to two or fewer runs in eight of his 10 starts and shutting out his opponents on three occasions. "He's been great, unbelievable," Marlins manager Joe Girardi said. "He's a strong young man and he throws hard. He throws strikes and throws them down in the zone. That's why he's been so good." After beginning June with his second straight loss, the 22-year-old right-hander has won his last three starts, the latest on Monday against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Johnson pitched 6 2-3 innings, giving up three runs -- two in the first inning -- while walking one and striking out five in the 8-5 win. "(I felt) pretty good, at times I was a little off. It was a rough first inning," said Johnson, who was pitching on eight days' rest. "The team came back and picked up two more runs to pick me up. That helps out a lot the rest of the game." That offense failed to provide much help on Saturday for Florida starter Brian Moehler, who lasted just 2-3 of an inning before leaving the game with a sprained right foot. He gave up three runs and three hits while walking two batters. The Marlins placed him on the 15-day disabled list Saturday night. Rookie reliever Anibal Sanchez was then touched for three home runs over 4 1-3 innings, as the Red Sox jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the sixth inning en route to an 11-5 victory. Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz each homered twice and combined to drive in nine runs. Ramirez's three-run homer in the first inning was his 2,000th career hit. "Those two guys in the middle, something special," Girardi said. "They beat us." The win was the 13th in the last 14 games for the Red Sox (49-29), who will hand the ball to Jon Lester (3-0, 2.95) on Sunday to close the series. Lester won his third straight start on Tuesday against the New York Mets. The 22-year-old left-hander pitched five innings and gave up two runs in the 9-4 win. He struggled with his control, hitting and walking a batter with the bases loaded in the fifth inning, but then struck out David Wright to escape further damage. "He stayed out of a big inning and then we were able to respond offensively," Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek said. "That was key. He did an excellent job of doing it. It was outstanding for him." Lester has given up just four runs in his last three games, striking out 20 during that span. However, he has yet to pitch beyond the sixth inning. Saturday's win improved Boston to 15-2 in interleague play this season.

I will try to pick up from RedSoxRooter's hot streak. Game Info: Date: Friday, July 1st, 2006 First Pitch: 6:00pm EST Location: Dolphin Stadium, Miami Florida TV: NESN Starting Pitchers: http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/123801.jpg Tim Wakefield 5-8 3.86 v.s. http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/119215.jpg Brian Moehler 5-6 6.55 Game Preview Now that they've cooled off the hottest team in the major leagues, perhaps the Florida Marlins can stake a claim to that title. One night after snapping Boston's 12-game winning streak, the Marlins look to make it two in a row over the Red Sox as the teams continue their three-game weekend series Saturday. The Marlins (35-41) have won four of their last five games, including a 5-2 victory over Boston in Friday night's series opener. Florida is 24-10 since May 22, tied with the Minnesota Twins for the best record in baseball over that span. "I think it was just great for us to go out here and just play good baseball," said Marlins starter Dontrelle Willis, who pitched seven strong innings to get the win. "We're on the same playing field as a potential world championship team. We played hard in all aspects of the game." The win moved Florida past Philadelphia for second place in the NL East behind the New York Mets, who still own a 10 1/2 -game division lead. Brian Moehler (5-6, 6.55 ERA) takes the mound for Florida looking to continue his recent success at home. The right-hander has won his last three starts at Dolphin Stadium while posting a 3.15 ERA and receiving an average of 9.45 runs in support. Moehler fared less well on the road in his last outing, giving up six runs -- five earned -- in four innings of a 6-5 loss to the New York Yankees on June 23. He is 4-3 with a 3.43 ERA in seven career starts against the Red Sox (48-29), who he has not faced since the 2000 season. Boston left fielder Manny Ramirez, who went 3-for-4 with a two-run single in Friday's defeat, is 8-for-17 (.471) with a homer and four doubles in his career versus Moehler. The loss not only snapped Boston's longest winning streak since 1995, but also spoiled the returns of third baseman Mike Lowell, shortstop Alex Gonzalez and starting pitcher Josh Beckett, all of whom left the Marlins for the Red Sox in the offseason. Beckett isn't scheduled to pitch in this series, but Lowell and Gonzalez each got a hit Friday, and received a standing ovation from the fans. "It was as nice an ovation as I've ever gotten," Lowell said. "I felt overwhelmed. I was humbled and appreciative. I'm glad Alex received the same type of ovation. I hope they can show some highlights of Josh Beckett and bring him out, too." Lowell and Gonzalez have anchored the left side of the infield for a stellar Boston defense, which set a new major league record Friday by playing error-free ball for the 17th consecutive game. "The streak is nice," said Lowell after the Red Sox fell to 14-2 in interleague play. "But I'd like to have won 13." Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (5-8, 3.86) looks to help get the Red Sox back on the winning track. Wakefield is riding a streak of six consecutive quality starts, and has lasted six innings or more in 11 straight outings. The 39-year-old right-hander allowed three runs in six innings on Monday against Philadelphia, but did not receive a decision in Boston's 8-7, 12-inning victory. Wakefield is 2-3 with a 5.79 ERA in 10 career appearances, including six starts, against Florida.

The Red Sox are not the Yankees and will never promote Bowden to AA ball. If anything he might get a promotion to Wilmington but the Sox never rush their pitching prospects through the minors. It would be foolish to move Bowden who barely pitch in 2005 in the GCL and is in his first full season of minor league ball to rush him up to Portland. I would not be surprised if they just kept Bowden in Greenville for the entire year.
