  1. Pedro is not the pedro from 1998-2000. he is a different pedro. he is not the dominant pedro of old and now has a history of injury problems. the red sox were not ever going to take a chance and to 4 years with him no matter how good of a pitcher he is because was not the same pitcher he was before 2001. the mets were the only team willing to go 4 years with pedro and they foolishly did.
  2. 2 in a row....any chance we can win 3 tomorrow when i go to the game. 3 is called a winning streak something the bruins have not had all year.
  3. The 1998 marlins put alot rookies on the field as well right after their first fire sale.
  4. im in total agreement with and i am all for it. the future is very bright for the sox with the likes of papelbon, lester, hansen, delcarmen, marte, ellsbury, pedroia, big edgar.
  5. they won two titles but with 2 different teams but they built their 2003 team through the farm system.
  6. i have never seen a more negative fan than him after the team just won a world series with a team that had a short window to win a title.
  7. wow.....a real negative fan for a team that won the world series only 2 short seasons ago
  8. the only reason you want griffey is because he is a star player. he can't play centerfielder anymore. he has been injury prone the last 3-4 seasons. he is signed for 4 more years at big money. why should the sox even pursue someone like him? because what they want to show the fans that they can bring star players in.
  9. he was signed to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. its a low risk deal. the red sox are creating competition and depth at the same time.
  10. it would have been a bad deal to begin with....griffey 4 more years at big money.....no thanks
  11. the angels won with homegrown players in 2002 but it will be only a matter of time before they reach a championship again. with players such as brandon wood, howie kendrick, eric aybar, kendry morales, casey kotchman and jeff mathis on the way in the not too near future the angels will be setup for a very long time. combine that with the emergence of ervin santana and once jared weaver reaches the bigs that could be one scary team.
  12. not surprising at all. the red sox don't want to be tied to griffey's big contract for 4 more years when the guy has injury prone written all over him and will only decline further in the outfield.
  13. that was just the yankees get the lists from the both the 2002 angels and the 2003 marlins and you will see that most of the players came up through their farm system. i love what the red sox are doing. they are bringing in younger players from their farm system who are talented and merging them in with older players who they will eventually faze out. with 7 picks out of the top 100 the red sox can further strengthen their team for the future come next draft. with alot of good prospects on the cusp of boston the future in my eyes looks bright.
  14. because it keeps the payroll down and it lets you go out and get that young free agent who is UNDER 30 and spend the money on him. having players like papelbon, hansen, lester, pedroia, marte all making peanuts will allow the red sox to trim the payroll and get the older players out of here and spending the money on younger talent when they become free agents. i have seen a world series in my lifetime. i would love another but not at the expense of the long term success of the team. i would rather hold onto our young top prospects than trade them for over the hill stars.
  15. Getting top stars is not the formula just ask the Yankees. Since they have raised the payroll to over 100 million they haven't won anything. They keep buying stars ever year and how many world series titles have they won since 2000. A big fat zero. they won when they had young homegrown talent come into its own mixed with some nice veteran players. not many teams have bought stars and won championships. marlins won in 2003 with homegrown talent, same with the angels, and yankees 1996-2000). Look at the Mets....they have bought talent the last few years and where has it got them....nowhere not even a sniff of the playoffs. buying talent is overrated in my mind and does not lead to a championship all the time. there are those certains time where it will but for the most teams that homegrow their own players will have greater success.
  16. getting soriano is not the red sox priority nor should it be. who cares if he is dominician. he is overrated as a player would cost too much in a trade.
  17. They are stopgaps until they promote all the top prospects in the system to boston. im more concerned with the red sox longterm success than complaining about losing star players. the longterm success is 45 minutes away in pawtucket while the short term success took bigger money deals in other places when they could have gotten fair deals in boston. they chose the all mighty dollar over loyalty so be it with them. if the red sox win 85 games next season im not going to complain. id would rather have them start bringing in youth from our farm system than throwing big money at free agents already in their 30's.
  18. i know nothing about him and his chances of making the big club are a longshot at best.
  19. It would hurt a team that is still trying to pay off the debt they had on when they purchased the red sox. pedro is worth a 3 yr deal at most. damon not worth anything over 11 mil. they both left for the money while others like varitek and arroyo and ortiz took hometown discounts to stay here. they got their big money and that is all they were after. the red sox made a smart decision not to cave into both damon and pedro's demands because it would have hurt the team in the long run had they given those players the contracts they receieved from the mets and yankees respectively.
  20. You want the foundation. Its down I-95 in pawtucket with Lester, Pedroia, Hansen, Marte, Delcarmen, Edgar Martinez.....Papelbon has already made the drive up I-95 to Boston but is still the foundation.
  21. the red sox don't need soriano. he will cost too much in terms of prospects and he is not the red sox type of player. he is not going to get better as he pretty much has reached his potential. i would never give up lester, papelbon, marte, or hansen for soriano.
  22. The Pats today made the 29 year old Josh McDaniels the youngest coordinator in the NFL when they named him the new offensive coordinator.
  23. I hope we just keep Marte because corner players that have the ability to put up 40 homers a year are rare.
  24. the white sox also don't have a payroll over a 100 million to begin with so they could bring konerko back. its not like they have alot of guys making big money on that team like the red sox do. the red sox run a business and the red sox made a business decision when they decided it was not in the teams best interests to match the mets contract offer for pedro and the yankees contract offer for damon. pedro is a great pitcher but their is a good chance that his arm could go at any time because he has a history of arm problems(2001 and plus he was on the DL with the red sox at least once a season up until 2001 when was hurt for basically the entire year). not everyone is going to agree with the red sox decision but smart baseball fans know it would have been stupid to go to a 4th year for pedro or give damon 52 million.
  25. i was always liked jeff davanon because he can play multiple outfield positions and has a solid bat. i would not be against bringing him in to play center that is if we can't get reed or crisp.
