  1. he will give them 200 innings of 4.20era ball which is good enough for a 1 yr deal....and with the angels offense better than the dodgers offense last yr he should have some more wins as well.
  2. average by stats yes but if you watch the radar gun washburn is not the same pitcher he once was. the mariners gave him a ridiculous contract in which gm's get fired over. he better work out or bill bavasi will see the firing line.
  3. Other teams, possibly including the Yankees, are watching to see what happens with Sammy Sosa and the Nationals. A Dominican Republic newspaper, reported that Alex Rodriguez visited Sosa in Miami last weekend. It's unclear whether Rodriguez was being social or doing legwork for Yankees GM Brian Cashman, who could use Sosa as part of a DH platoon with switch-hitter Bernie Williams. -- Chicago Tribune
  4. well lets see. washburn got 40 million from the mariners over 4 yrs when his velocity is down and he hasn't pitched over 200 innings since 2003. weaver is a 1 yr investment for less money and eats innings. he is an upgrade from both washburn and paul byrd.
  5. if they can get some prospects for graffanino i think they move him and i believe there will be teams in spring training looking to acquire graffanino and that the red sox will entertain offers. i like graff but once loretta was acquired he was deemed expendable. also the red sox offered him arbitration with the intention of getting draft picks for him and it ended up back firing on them.
  6. the world has just caught up in basketball though
  7. and so is bronson arroyo who posts basically the same numbers as him backe....10-8 4.76 era 97 k's 67 bb's 149.3 innings arroyo....14-10 4.51 era 100 k's 54 bb's 205.3 innings i wouldn't saying amazing...arroyo is much better than him backe is putting up average stats in the NL while arroyo has better stats in the AL
  8. the stories should be some of the most overhyped US athletes in these games. Bode Miller, jeremy bloom, apolo ohno(so far)
  9. yankee dollars going to waste.....i love it
  10. they have cora as well and willie harris even though i doubt he makes the team. tony is making 2.05 million this year and thats alittle pricey for someone on the bench.
  11. backe should not even be included in with those 3 as he is nowhere near their level
  12. don't forget oakland with zito, harden, haren, blanton
  13. i will put them back in the mix if they get clemens back but they still don't have an offense.
  14. im just saying it is a concern and if rolen is not all the way back along with edmonds showing some decline the cardinals won't be as good as they were in the past. If everything breaks right for the Cubs i can see them easily challenging the cardinals for the division.
  15. a huge embarassment for the US to tie a team like Latvia. i don't expect a medal but to tie latvia is awful.
  16. Walt Jocketty said that he shoulder is still of some concern. http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060209&content_id=1309215&vkey=spt2006news&fext=.jsp&c_id=stl i have also heard other baseball writers say that he may not be fully healthy either.
  17. angels sign jeff weaver to a 1 yr deal
  18. solid pickup and an upgrade from washburn who ended up getting 10 mil a year from the mariners.
  19. they will be good but they will not win 100 games....i think 95 is pushing it as well. edmonds is getting older and rolen is not fully healthy.
  20. cardinals lost matt morris to the giants, mark gruz to the royals, reggie sanders to the royals, larry walker to retirement. there only big signing was brandon looper if you call that big. they have clearly taken a step back. also if rolen doesn't come back to full health and right now its been speculated he is not fully healthy then the cardinals are going to be in trouble.
  21. i completely agree. i think if everything goes right for them then they can win the central. the cardinals have taken steps back the last few seasons. If Davis and Capuano can be solid and sheets great this season watch out they can take that division.
  22. that is a huge win for seton hall. they are on the bubble as it is and this win only builds that resume until selection sunday
  23. Duke does not have enough scoring if say a player like reddick gets shut down for a game. other than williams and reddick they have no other player averaging in double figures. against a team like UConn sheldon williams will likely be a non factor with hilton armstrong and josh boone. dukes depth might come back to haunt them as they rely too much on reddick and williams.
  24. ill go into college basketball threads because i follow it more than the NBA because its better than the NBA. so what if i don't like duke. its my opinion. i don't think they will win it all. maybe thats my opinion but im not a duke frontrunner like most people here.
  25. Bobsled, Hockey, and skiing are my favorites.
