  1. 3 zip. The Red Sox have trouble putting any runs on the board.
  2. They need to get the offense going here against Nuno.
  3. Shut down for 3 innings by the punching bag Nuno.
  4. Pedroia is killing us this year. His down performance is the major reason who the offense sucks
  5. Based on what the Yankee announcers said about Drew and Bogaerts last inning, it sounded like they had been reading Fred's posts.
  6. Holt robs Roberts of a HR.
  7. I have never been a fan who makes apologies or excuses for the FO. I tend to reject their excuses and explanations as propaganda spewed by suits. If we lose Lester, I will not buy any of the excuses. It seems that most teams are keeping and extending their star pitchers. Most of those teams have less resources than the Red Sox. Those pitchers have agents too. Are we to believe that the Yankees covet only our star pitcher?
  8. I wonder if Betts will get called up this weekend against the Yanks now that Victorino has been shut down again.
  9. I think the pitching matchups favor the Sox slightly in this series, but our offense needs to wake up. We need Pedey to start his laser show.
  10. I think they have to do something to keep the team competetive. 90 loss seasons drain fan interest from the franchise which is not easy to regain as they find other forms of entertainment. Look at this forum. Since we have been losing many of the noisier pom pom waving posters are gone. I don't think the Red Sox FO wants its fan base to disengage. I think they will try to kick start them back to competitiveness.
  11. No Spud, you are a level-headed TalkSox poster and you never exhibit animosity. I agreed with you liking the Drew signing, even though people think that I always agree with Fred. The truth is that Fred and I frequently disagree, but we keep it respectful and friendly as you do when you post. He was right this time, and more right than I would have expected. Drew has been a shell of the hitter that he had been. Fred is very emotional about these matters, and we have no problem with that. When he really goes on a rant, it makes me chukle. Apparently, it drives others crazy, but there were way too many STFU's directed at him over this issue. That is just not appropriate. He wan't blaspheming. LOL! And even then, this is America. He can have his opinion even if blasphemous. There was also the thread wishing him dead. That is just ridiculous and hateful. Fred's opinions are about sports and sometimes he ratchets up the volume when he gets attention, but there are far too many posters that have made hating Fred a sport or a life mission. Reading that nonsense is far more distasteful than an opinion about sports.
  12. I thought it was a good depth move when they signed Drew, and I thought Fred's negeative reaction was overly dramatic. Looking at the results, his reaction was on the money. The only thing that the Drew signing has achieved I'd to set back Bogaerts' development at SS. The people arguing with Fred about Drew have been driven by their personal dislike of Fred, who was completely right thus far with his prediction about the result of the acquisition. As for those who think that Drew has not been a major contributor to Red Sox suck in 2014, the bottom line is that offense has been this team's weakness since the opening bell. IN acquiring Drew, they have added a blackhole to an already struggling lineup. That has had a major negative impact. I agree with Pal's idea that adding a good bat to this lineup could change things around. Instead they have added an automatic out with Drew. Major blunder. Apparently, the Tigers had good reason for shying away from Drew even after their SS went down with a season-ending injury.
  13. There is no reason not to bring up Vasquez immediately. Ross needs to be put out to pasture.
  14. This is definitely a great opportunity for the Sox to pick up some ground - playing 3 of the small handful of teams with worse records than the Red Sox. They have 5 or 6 teams to climb over in the Wild Card hunt. If they don't make a major move over this stretch, 2014 I over for them.
  15. I don't think he could bring back much value. He's probably more valuable to us as a platoon/AAAA player.
  16. I think that you are completely right. Last year, amazed me as everything seemed to break our way. That team was a resilient fighting bunch and their efforts rarely went unrewarded. I did not think they were the most talented team last year by any stretch. When you get a run of good fortune like that, you expect that your fortunes will turn eventually, and they have turned bad dramatically this season. The feeling is different this year than 2012, largely because we are not saddled with a bloated payroll full of sloths and bad attitudes, but also it feels different because we are still basking in a cinderella Championship season. That being said, if we have another 90+ loss season that will mean a lot of pain for the fans as 90 loss seasons is something that is really unprecedented for everyone other than very senior Sox fans.
  17. We are going to get nothing for half a season of a washed up pitcher no matter how he pitches in his upcoming starts. The best that they can hope for is for someone to take his remaining salary. As a fan, we will be rid of the torture of watching him stink and yell at himself.
  18. Before 69 there were no playoffs and there was no Wild Card until 1995. Since 1967 we have lost 90 or more games once in 2012 and won 3 championships. They have usually fielded competitive teams that win more than they lose. If we lose 90 games for the second time in 3 years and only the second time in 48 years, that would be some historic suck for the Sox.
  19. Victorino is on the Carl Pavano rehab program. His rehab has been shut down again due to a back problem. There is no target for resuming his rehab. They need to get another outfielder really fast.
  20. LOL!! At 8 years old, I was a front-runner. I started rooting for the Sox in 1967. I did miss Geiger and Buddin and Dr. Strangeglove.
  21. The Sox need to get Victorino back and another OFer. Nava and Gomes need to be a strict platoon. Gomes can't hit righties. Period. Nava is much better from the left side. They can be useful as a platoon. Neither is an everyday player.
  22. That is right, but he has had a penchant for the long balls this season. HRs are way up by Buch this year, and it doesn't look like he has straightened that out during his absence.
  23. Three long balls served up by Buch.
