  1. I don't know how the landmark laws work. There was a beautiful old stone church in my neighborhood when I was a child. I was disappointed to see that it had been torn down and replaced with a school. My research revealed that the Church was eligible for landmark status. Based on what I read, the pastor decided against pursuing the status because the church no longer had the congregation yo support the upkeep of the old church, so he opted to tear it down. I wonder who is responsible for the perpetual upkeep of Fenway.
  2. [quote=Spudboy;941008 No one likes to hear "I told you so" at all. Let alone over and over and over again.Spud, you sound like a man who had been married too many times
  3. Fred, I always respect by our baseball opinions.
  4. It was pretty much the same thing with Gretzky. I saw a lot of Orr. I was big into hockey in those years. Gretzky greatness wasn't just numbers. Gretzky like Orr did things that just left you shaking your head in disbelief.
  5. Agreed. I don't think anyone goes above him on the list, but Gretzky is right there with him. He didn't skate like Orr and wasn't explosive like Orr, but he did control the game and he simply obliterated the record book.
  6. Different eras. Or transformed the game but his career was much too short. Gretzky wasn't a product of a scoring explosion. His numbers even in that context are in a different universe. He like Orr would do things that you just couldn't believe what you had seen. He had the best instincts of any player that I have seen. It was like he had eyes in the back of his head.
  7. Life expectancies were about almost 20 years less in 1930 than today.
  8. He had problems with balls of the wall and balls in the air. He was always stumbling around. He played every ball like it was a live hand grenade or a hot potato.
  9. Beltran may just be broken down at this point. If not, he could be a very dangerous bat at Yankee Stadium. As for AFraud, I can't see the Yankees eating $61 million, but I could see them eating half and cutting him after this season.
  10. Cespedes had no clue fielding balls off the monster.
  11. I think we are saying the same thing. Neither of us expects a last place 90+ loss team again, because we don't expect to flat out suck like 2014.
  12. I fully expect that his conversion to the OF will go smoother than Youk's conversion to the OF.
  13. Vic didn't play. I wouldn't say that he underperformed. Maybe he can return to good health. That would be great, but maybe he is just broken down. Bogaerts didn't have an off-year. He was a rookie, but he has room to grow. Miley and Masterson weren't even on the team in 2014 so their regression didn't contribute to our last place finish. Craig was barey on the team.
  14. I don't think last year's problem was pervasive underperformance. There was underperformance, notably from Pedroia and Napoli. The bigger problem was that we rolled out a team that was not very talented. Bradley and Middlebrooks were clearly overrated prospects. We had garbage in our OF as a whole, partly due to Victorino missing almost the entire season. Our catching corps was bad too. The difference this year will be the upgrades through acquisitions of Hanley and Panda and Castillo more so than it will be a reurn to norms by the underperformers. I expect that Napoli will return to his norms, but there seems to be a concern that last season's performance by Pedroia may be his new norm. I hope not, because a high performing Pedroia drives this team. Xander was a rookie, so he didn't regress. We don't know what he is yet, but the good news is he has room to develop. I think our offense will be much better this season, but it will not be because of a reversal of team-wide regression in 2014.
  15. One day Ortiz will start to slip. He has been as reliable as a fine Swiss watch.
  16. Yep, Orr did change hockey. He is at the top of a very short list.
  17. I'd say that a good choice for the Football player would be Jim Brown, but I can't go along with Michael Jordan.
  18. If you could make that happen, you should be working at the UN. LOL!!
  19. I think you both tend to be a little defensive when it comes to the other and are ascribing bad intentions that are just not there.
  20. I think we have been making progress. Let's continue in that vein. And I think the both of you can be more fair to each other too.
  21. And you have been making a noticeable effort to be fair to Fred. I have been trying to be fair to you too.
  22. Lately, if I post about any topic, UN takes his cheap shot and MVP quotes it to troll and accompanies the quote with his own wisecrack. I guess that is how they get their ya-yas. School yard bully and his heckling buddy. LOL!
  23. I went with Red Sox Destinations when Rice was inducted. It is a first class operation. They handle everything dor you. It was a wonderful experience. Although there was premium for booking with them, I thought it was a very good deal for what you got.
  24. That's a hefty salary in AAA. I don't see them doing it. I think it is more likely that Mookie goes to AAA. I am not saying that I favor that, but that's the way I see it going... or Nava.
  25. Are you looking at Red Sox Destinations or are you booking it independently?
