  1. LOL!! It was late. It was my last post of the night before I had to travel on business early in the morning. This was my first chance to check back. I didn't want to shut down for the night on a bad note. I give you an apology, but somehow you saw that as a glass half full. Who is the pessimist now. I will change the post.
  2. MVP, I shouldn't have hurled the snarky "douche" remark at you. It was uncalled for. We have been peacefully coexisting, and I don't want to set that back. I apologize.
  3. I think you have something there. The logic is impeccable and the conclusion is inescapable.
  4. I've been on my back porch tonight so I haven't checked the front lawn.
  5. John Henry did give Ortiz a plaque calling him the greatest clutch hitter in Red Sox history, and isn't his baseball judgment above the questioning of us internet geeks?
  6. Spud, he said the he "hoped" that he was not running a boy scout camp. Is it too early to "hope"? He also concluded by repeating his prediction of a division championship. It didn't seem like a very inflammatory post. Some people just have hair triggers, and it has nothing to do with a low tolerance for stupidity. It's an anger issue.
  7. Neither is mood or emotion.

  9. Sure! I would be happy to share some feedback with you. I just hope that it doesn't anger you that the feedback will be coming from someone who is not a professional scout and who has no experience running a professional sports team.
  10. A week from Saturday. I will be so miserable with all that warm sunny weather and all that baseball.
  11. "Traditionalist"? There you go with the labels again. Some people could get offended.
  12. I guess he found something negative about the wins today? I thought low scores were interesting. You almost never see low scoring close games against the college teams. The Northeastern pitcher must be pretty good as I read that he stuck out a bunch of good hitters. Maybe the kid bears some watching. But I guess that some people would take that as complaining . I have been to those opening double headers and I always feel good about the college kids doing well in those game. It's a big thrill for them. I remember a BC kid striking out Papi swinging one year and I thought that would be something he could tell his kids and grand kids, but i should be careful as I might be accused of complaining by a douche.
  13. I just didn't see a complaint about the team, not even a "kinda complaint."
  14. Who was complaining and about what?
  15. What was the initial "kinda complaining"?
  16. I can't remember a year when we just squeaked by the 2 college teams.
  17. "Ninety percent of the game is half mental" -- Yogi Berra
  18. For all the talk in recent years by teams about using their closers in critical parts of game, not necessarily the 9th inning, no team has done that except in very rare instances. Also, cloer by committee never seems to work. Someone either emerges from the pack and becomes the closer or they go outside the organization to get a closer.
  19. Is the game televised?
  20. The argument about whether clutch exists is similar to the argument about closers being overvalued because the 3 ninth inning outs are no different than the other 24. Anyone who has ever pitched will tell you that the 9th inning is different, and they will also tell you how much tougher the clutch hitter is to get out in a big spot in that 9th inning. It is truly a battle of wills.
  21. Out of that group, Nava will benefit from being a good lefty swinger. Bradley is out. Brentz isn't ready and the rest are right handed. That will give Nava an edge.
  22. My cousin, a lifelong Yankee fan vomitted for a week after Maz hit that Homer. I have always had a soft spot for Maz.
  23. It was in its early stages. The catcher stood about 6 feet behind the batter and cought the pitches barehanded after they bounced a few times.
  24. I have posted several times in recent days that it is a reality around here, so it is no biggie. And neither are the descriptive terms for the other side of that spectrum. Now, if you insist on being on my lawn, please mow and water it once a week.
