  1. And maybe he would be more productive if he worked on shortening up on his swing and just trying to make contact in certain situations. Acknowledging his productivity doesn't mean that he couldn't be more productive if he tried a different approach. The fact that Napoli is productive is not proof that the swing from the heels approach is superior to a situationally strategic approach. It doesn't prove that at all.
  2. You'll get no argument from me on this.
  3. I loved every minute of it.
  4. That's exactly how it works.
  5. We are in a post steroid era. Power is not as plentiful. Spitball brought up Adam Dunn. Dunn is a huge specimen who was a 35+ HR guy who walked a lot. You tolerate K's from that kind of guy. It's the 20-25 HR guys who annoy me when they swing from the heels regardless of the situation.
  6. My complaints are not limited to Napoli. Far too many guys take the same swing for the fences no matter the situation. It drives me crazy.
  7. Same argument same answer different thread.
  8. The law of large numbers are that I will never get beheaded by a terrorist, but that gives me little comfort if it happens. I don't mean to overdramatize, but when that duck is sitting on third base and the batter takes three and sits down, it gives me little solace to think that it doesn't effect his overall productivity.
  9. Can't you tak a hint? They are talking about us behind our backs.
  10. Sure. it seemed that Salty who had problems making contact to make a productive out would manage to make contact to hit into bases loaded DPs.
  11. If there were no distinction, keeping score would be very easy -- H or O -- that would be it.
  12. We already discussed this. See http://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/11945-Hello-11-Active-Members?p=942309&viewfull=1#post942309 Don't carryover arguments from other threads. Not good Kimmi. Tsk Tsk.
  13. I get that, but whenI am at the game at there is a man on 2nd or 3rd with no one out, I want the goundball to second not the k. At that point, the law of large numbers is meaningless to me.
  14. Ughh! I didn't.
  15. Unless there is a man on second base with no one out.
  16. And there was a very good stretch of teams from 1975 to 1979-- only a 5 year stretch and 1 playoff appearance. They missed the playoffs with 97 and 99 win seasons.
  17. Did I accuse you of engaging in adulation?
  18. What period am I referring to? I don't think that I referenced any period, so I don't know where you are getting the 86 win figure.
  19. The Red Sox always had a tough time with the turf in KC, but at that time the Sox were a far superior team, and they were getting a second wind down the stretch. They had righted the ship and the guys were pretty healthy at that point.
  20. Ah when the regular season separated the men from the boys.
  21. I don't know where you are getting those numbers from, but 2 playoff appearances in 12 years would not put anyone on a Hall of Fame ballot. While you are on my lawn would you mind watering it and cutting it?
  22. Do I have to like the FO? LOL!! I do like the Wild Card. I am thankful for the Wild Card. I wish there was a Wild Card in 1978. There's a good chance the WS drought would have ended at 60.
  23. This FO also needs to be thankful for the Wild Card. Without it, there would be 2 playoff appearances in 12 seasons-- not that great.
  24. I am a proponent if micro strategy in games as opposed to placating myself with macro statistical results. You are free to have the other approach.
  25. Sure it is okay. Defend them all you want. As long as you don't take the criticism of the FO personally. I always find that type of reaction to be odd.
