  1. His bat looks so slow that it looks like he is swinging a tree trunk. Maybe he should try a lighter bat.
  2. I don't think it will be an easy transition, but he really has nothing to lose. His career splits against lefties are pretty bad and 2014 was putrid. This season is looking even worse.
  3. Gametime 7:10 TEX: Gallardo (3-5, 3.94) BOS: Miley (2-4, 5.60) I am riding with "in person" mojo.
  4. 0-3 in his debut in a 13-11 loss for Greenville today.
  5. Boiled to its essence this means that the Red Sox are still responsible for Craig's entire contract. What a fleecing Ben took on this one. He gave away a good solid starting pitcher and took on the salary of a guy who is probably finished as a productive major leaguer. I don't think he grasped the meaning of being a seller at the trading deadline.
  6. LOL! Not everything is an argument. An exchange of ideas is not always a contest.
  7. Spud, we have seen Fenway awaken slumbering lumber countless times in our lives. I think the hitting will come alive this week, but I am for the first time concerned that Papi will no longer be the hitter that we have enjoyed watching over these many years.
  8. 5 and 5 on the 10 game west coast road trip. I will take that at any time in any season. It doesn't matter whether they hit or not. .500 on the coast is good. Edit: It seems that we never hit out there. Fenway will bring the bats to life this week. It will be the pitchers turn to suck.
  9. More good stuff. Keep it coming.
  10. Yep, that'swhere the smart money is.
  11. Wright with a scoreless inning!
  12. Porcello is needed to anchor this staff. He is not a concern. The other 4 are a concern.
  13. Pitchers will tell you about the contribution of pitching coaches as far as mechanics go. That is not their main function. Their biggest contribution is making sure that the pitchers get the right amount of work to be ready and not overworked and to report back to the manager about the pitchers.
  14. We all had enough facts to know that it was a bad decision. Cruz was the one guy that the manager was not supposed to let beat him in that situation. That was the manager's call all the way. It had nothing to do with a vote of confidence, because Taz wasn't even in the game at that point. Taz is a pressure inning guy. He is getting plenty of votes of confidence in every one of his outings.
  15. And this ^ is where you stat geeks go off the rails. The games are not played on paper.
  16. Willis got hired because he is a Friend of Farrell, not because he is a pitching guru. Even those pitching coches who are known as "gurus" aren't really gurus. Billy Martin always hired his pitching coaches on the basis of whether they could keep up with him at the bar.
  17. Nice win. It ensures a split on the road trip. That is better thanI had expected. They are hanging in there.
  18. Everyone has pitched well against the Mariners. That may say more about the Mariners than it does about our starters turning a corner. Let's see how the next 2 turns go before we get excited.
  19. Farrell said tonight that what irks him is that he discussed the scenario with his coach before the game and said that their lineup was set up perfect for Layne because he could walk Cruz and go after the lefty Seager. During the game he didn't follow his own strategy. As far as not having all the facts, no one, including the managers has "all the facts" at any given time, but we all had enough of facts annd statistics at our disposal on thespot to know that it was a terrible move in real time. I like that Farrell owned his mistake, but I am still pissed at the stupidity.
  20. Two years of lousy offense coinciding with the fastest lead off hitter in Red Sox history leaving the team. As the young people say, just sayin.
  21. "On the surface"? No, it was a thoroughly stupid move. It was fundamentally flawed in every way. Yes, the offense sucks. A manager actually has few opportunities to influence the outcome of a game. This was one of those opportunities. Farrell certainly gets the assist in the loss in this game.
  22. So this is what the idiot Farrell did in the 9th inning. He has the lefty on the mound Tommy Layne. There are two outs with a man on second base. Due up for the Mariners is their hottest hitter Nelson Cruz who is one of the hottest hitters in baseball at this point. On deck behind Cruz is left handed hitting Kyle Seager who is hitting 110 points less than Cruz and OPS'ing 429 points less than Cruz. Farrell goes to the pen to get the right handed Tazawa to pitch to Cruz. If he left Layne in to walk Cruz, he had a lefty-lefty matchup against a much weaker hitter and Cruz's run on first base is meaningless. This is a real head-shaking brain fart of a move.
