  1. 13 pitches 5 outs. Keep it going.
  2. You have to love when your pitcher has a 6 pitch inning.
  3. You had become accustomed to being competitive on a daily basis. That is not entitled. You had a reasonable expectation of being competitive as you had become accustomed to it. You were not entitled to a winning team as entitled connotes that you have a right. As fans we have no right to anything except to watch and buy a seat. The reason why you are struggling with the word "entitled" is because it is out of place when discussing a fans relationship with his team.
  4. Getting new blood in the rotation is the only chance we have of improving enough to be competitive. Wright earned an additional start. Hopefully, this kid does well and can win a job. I am assuming that Kelly would be exiled to the pen.
  5. I know some people are convinced that our hitting has been a product of bad luck, but on the Sunday night game one of the analysts provided a stat that debunks that notion. The Red Sox are at the bottom or toward the bottom in velocity of batted balls. We just don't hit the ball very hard. That is bad hitting not bad luck. Hanley looks injured, Ortiz looks old and overmatched by good heat, Sandoval is atrocious against lefties and Nava has been completely useless. He used to be useless from the right side and that dragged down his stats, but now he is used almost exclusively as a lefty (his good side) and he has been atrocious.
  6. I read a funny line by a Boston newspaper writer. He said that he was convinced that Joe Kelly was in the rotation only to make Buchholz look consistent.
  7. This team needs to have some fight, show some resiliency and establish an identity. As soon as they are down in a game, you can turn off the game and leave the ballpark, because they roll over and die. They need a few comeback wins to get some confidence and galvanize the clubhouse. RIght now they have is a loser's demeanor. No life. If they can't get it together soon, Ben will need to do what Theo did in 2004-- shake things up and inject some life into this team. I love how the ball comes off Hanley's bat, but he is a slug in every other aspect of the game. Manny brought a zanny goofy exuberance to the game. Hanley looks like he needs a double shot of espresso before each game.
  8. My recollection is that Pal questioned the wisdom of move at the time of the trade. His concerns have been validated.
  9. It's hard for me to buy this as an explanation for a 25 year drought.
  10. Sure. Hurst was great, but he pre-dates Clemens.
  11. They didn't need to take a calculated risk. They had a known cheap commodity. They shouldn't have taken risks and payroll in return. They should have received a solid prospect. There's no sugar-coating this one.
  12. Key word ^ savy.
  13. We definitely all thought it was odd. When SBF said before the trade that he had heard Lackey wanted out of town, he was mocked. In the end, it looks like there had to be something to the rumor considering what we got in return. Ben, still should have done better, regardless of Lackey's discontent. I think what we are starting to see is that BEn is truly out of his depth in running this organization and producing a consistent winning product on the field.
  14. For $500k, it was worth it to call his bluff and risk getting nothing, which is essentiallwhat we got for him. He may not have wanted to be here, but they should have done a better job of getting other teams bidding against each other for his services. Just because he didn't want to be here didn't mean that he wasn't a very valuable commodity.
  15. Excellent points. Lackey was not a salary dump, nor was he a short term rental. He was our number 2 pitcher with big time post season experience who was performing well. He was scheduled to make only the league minimum in 2015. A year and a half of apitcher of his quality at league minimum should have netted a top level prospect and not a wrecked OFer hitting at the Mendoza line with a multi year contract. Kelly was a known project. Many shook their heads in disbelief at the time not just in hindsight. I was hoping that Ben knew something about Craig and Kelly that we did not know. Clearly that was not the case.
  16. you are minimalizing the mistake of Masterson. Forget about the money. That is not the issue. They signs and gave a rotation spot to a guy who had experienced a big loss of velocity without any reason to think that he had regained the lost velocity. They didn't do their homework. That was the big mistake.
  17. What pitching are we building or offense other than Betts? We love Betts, and he seems like he could be a very good player for years, but it has been a long drought waiting for a player like him. Bogaerts should be a good player, but he is not jumping out of the starting gate as a star. Yes, he is only 22, but Nomar was a huge Superstar by age 23. We really haven't developed a star OFer in a long time. Betts will be in our OF, but he is an IFer by trade. Our farm has not been churning out a lot of star players since the arrivals of Ellsbury, Pedroia, Lester, and Buch. On the pitching side, the drought has been even more noticeable. Something is wrong with our scouting or player development or both when it comes to pitching.
  18. The notion of throwing around the term "hypocrite" with regard to fans discussing the performance of a sports team is in the realm of idiocy, which is why I have him on ignore. LOL!!
  19. Dumpster Diving is the signing of pitchers who have been injured or who have had bad off seasons. Volquez and Hamels were not Dumpster Dives. I'm not sure why people are still operating under the incorrect perception that the AL East is such a tough division on pitchers. Newsflash, the ALE stinks. All of those pitchers would have done fine in the ALE. Yes, Burnett would have fit the definition of a Dumpster Dive, but as it turns out, he would have been a much better choice than the Dumpster Dive of Masterson.
  20. The best that they can hope for is that Craig establishes some trade value by playing in AAA.
  21. The improvement in our pitching will have to come from AAA or trades. The current crew will not "regress" enough for us to compete. I don't understand the discrepancy with fangraphs. The Angels had a 4.02 ERA in 2012 and the Rangers had a 3.99 ERA
  22. The rationale was that we were getting back 2 good players. The FO threw in the towel on half of trade in the off season when they signed Hanley after signing Castillo late last year. Those two moves essentially crowded Craig out of a roster spot, making him a very expensive spare part.
  23. One team out of 30 in the last 3 seasons have had ERAs over 4 -- the 2014 Tigers with Scherzer and Price had a 4.01. The 2012 Rangers came close, but they came in at 3.99 to get the Wild Card. If the best we can hope for is a regression to 4.25, that will not get it done, no matter how much the offense mashes. Edit: Also, our 4.48 went up after today's game.
