  1. Going for the elusive third win in a row tomorrow. I think we will finally do it.
  2. And the cancer reappears.
  3. http://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/17157-2015-Spring-Training-Games-Thread?p=943414&viewfull=1#post943414 A good set of eyes that has watched thousands of games can see things that don't show up in a box score or in a stat in some metric. To my eye on that day (March 17th), on that one play, Hanley looked like he didn't belong in the Outfield. He wasn't even involved in the play and was about 100+ feet away from the play, but his reaction on the ball spoke volumes about his lack of ability to play the outfield.
  4. Well you did post stats for other of our players so it wasn't clear that you were only making a statement about Papi and Hanley.
  5. So you were one of the cool kids?
  6. Was Butterfield with Farrell in Toronto, because this is how Toronto ran the bases when Farrell managed there.
  7. Fred acts much different on the phone. His rants mainly amused me. Unfortunately, he came unhinged the last few days and the taunting of him the last few days accelerated and worsened his rants. Also, it is unfortunate that the real cancer is still here and that will become evident in short order. @ Thunder, many of us were nerds in high school. High School sucks and it seems to last forever, but it doesn't. It will end and so will the bullying. The cool high school kids that I went to school with want to be me now. How is that for irony.
  8. This is the second game where Panda's error was responsible for a loss. How does that figure into WAR, because that should minus 2.
  9. I watched a lot of Toronto games while Farrell managed there. Foolish base running is a Hallmark of teams managed by him. Aggressiveness is good. Stupid aggressiveness is bad. This will continue, and we will continue to lose precious runs.
  10. In Mauer's 10 full MLB yrs (not counting partial 2004 and 2015), his OBP has been under .400 only 3 times in 10 years. Last year was his lowest OBP (.361). It could be that the years of catching have caught up to him. Pardon the pun. He has had a pretty good career with a lifetime batting average of .317 and and OBP of .398. Of course, the irony of this thread title will be that Mauer will wreck us today.
  11. I am confident that the bats will awaken, but hopefully it will happen before it is too late.
  12. Mauer has always been a gap hitter, never a power hitter. The move to the big new ballpark has further reduced his Homer output. He has had a slow start, but I think he has been consistently close to a .400 OBP guy throughout his career.
  13. I do however agree with her that our oFensive production has been anomolous, bordering on being an enigma. . However, the pitching is not an enigma. They are not a talented staff and their lousy performance has been no surprise.
  14. I wasn't convinced by the stats produced. My recollection is that there isn't a team metric for velocity of batted balls, and I don't think it is reliable to extrapolate from the handful of individual stats produced.
  15. Reinforcements and changes are needed to keep this ship from spiraling toward the drain.
  16. Isn't run production down across baseball?
  17. Part of the reason is that we have some terribly slow slugs in the lineup. Papi is really slowed with age. Panda's heart rate accelerates to fainting level as he rounds first base. Napoli is pretty slow too. Nava has below average speed (hard to tell this year because he never gets on base). Hannigan is super slow. Betts is super fast, but everything he hits up a gap gets caught.
  18. This is astounding considering that it is consistently the #1 park for doubles.
  19. then he sucks at multi-tasking if he had to address the crucial 25th man issue twice in a week without an intervening injury. Get your act together Ben. Stop rearranging the deck chairs. You are headed for a mother of an iceberg.
  20. no one is hyperventilating about the 25th roster spot except Ben who has addressed the issue twice in the last week. The point is that he has bigger fish to fry.
  21. It is a terribly constructed team. Terrible pitching and fielding will sink you every time. Add an under performing offense and things get really ugly. We are watching it play out.
  22. That is not plus fielding. The big culprits are he 2 free agents. I know that Pedroia's errors are up, but some of those errors were questionable calls. One was clearly XB's error, not Pedey's. I'll take Pedey on my defensive squad every time. XB has made a huge improvement. Panda has been bad. Napoli bad too. Hanley is a train wreck.
  23. The achilles heel of the team will be the pitching. I'd hate to see the figures just on the 5 guys that started off the year in the rotation. The offense has talent and will get better. The pitching needs talent and they will have to get some from outside the organization.
