  1. DO you think Ortiz would waive the 10-5 rights?
  2. This is following the Omar Minaya theory of building a bullpen which was get relievers that had a good track record after they have had an off year. It really never worked for the Mets. The most significant piece of news in this is that Buchholz has been moved to the 60 day DL meaning that his earliest return date is now September 9th.
  3. The scouting department probably needs to be upgraded and that is also the GM's resposibility. There are probably some exceutives out there tht had been GMs that would take the job.
  4. I am pretty sure that we can finish last 3 out of 4 years without him.
  5. Yes but we beat them out for Josh Rutledge. We are building for the future.
  6. he recently said that he was going to finish his career in Boston when asked about the possibility of being traded. I took that to mean that he would veto a trade.
  7. Ortiz has a 10 and 5 veto.
  8. What is with this last place stuff. Why are we having to get used to finishing last like that should be a normal occurrence? I have been a fan since 1967 and before these three last place finishes, I think there was one last place finish under coke-head Hobson. Finishing last with regularity is not something that should occur with this franchise. Ben got two mulligans -- one for the blame it on Theo and Bobby V year in 2012 and another in 2014 for winning the Championship in 2013. He is out of mulligans. It is time to count his strokes and he doesn't make the cut.
  9. I just don't think that Ben has clue with regard to building sustainable success. He has wasted a ton of money. We could have finished last with a $70 million payroll. It cost him $200 million/year to stay in last place 2 years in a row. That is astounding. On what planet do you do the Porcello contract? Planet Ben in the outer reaches of the Universe. How is Castillo deserving of a bigger contract than Jose Abreu or Yasiel Puig? He isn't. What the heck was he thinking about giving away a solid proven starter in Lackey getting paid the minimum wage for Joe Car Wreck Kelly and AAAlan Craig? Who pays a human meatball $95 million to play third base for their team? Who pays $100 million to an infield to play the OF for you when he has never played there before? The answers to all these questions are the same, and yes, this is bitching, but there is a lot to bitch about.
  10. So basically, the strategy was the bolded part of my prior post below.
  11. Our staff is not mediocre. By every measure, it stinks.
  12. How does his contract compare to Puig's or Abreu's? Castillo's contract was larger than either Puig's or Abreu's. So, was the strategy to pay more for a known lesser quantity? That's not a good business strategy.
  13. Or the King Felix discussion from a several years ago.
  14. Will they be coming from our farm or will we use the farmhands to acquire them?
  15. The Cole Hamels Sweepstakes continues:
  16. It looks like they are having a Fire Sale in Colorado.
  17. Asking a question is now defined as bitching. What an *******.
  18. Clearly, they have the pieces if they are willing to part with Betts and Bogaerts. I think Bogaerts is untouchable at this point and Betts would only go in a blockbuster. I don't think we would part with him for Kluber. Just my opinion. If they will not part with Betts or Bogaerts, I don't think we have the pieces in our organization to pry away a Kluber.
  19. Okay, keep it until he gets fired, which he will.
  20. We have a Red Sox Trading Dealine thread, and we are going to do nothing except have a fire sale. There have already been three big moves by other teams, so started an MLB Trading Deadline thread.
  21. There really was zero reason to get Rutledge. It would have been better if we got a PTBNL. There's no place for Rutledge and with Pedroia down and Holt a little banged up, give Weeks a look. He hustles and has some tools. He made a very nice play last night, so it looks like he has worked on improving his D from what I remember of him.
  22. Captain Obvious can always read minds incorrectly.
  23. It's a shame that Red Sox fans didn't get to see a healthy Victorino. The guy can play. I saw a lot of him with the Phillies as I live in NY and go to and watch a lot of Mets games. He drove Mets fans crazy. You couldn't hit the gaps when he played CF, and he played shallow but you couldn't get anything over his head. Great speed and unbelievable instincts. He broke so fast on balls and never broke the wrong way. With the bat, he mauled left handed pitching, and came up big in many key spots. I won't call him clutch, but I will call him fierce and fearless. He is the OF version of Dustin Pedroia -- a little guy with a chip on his shoulder who is really good at everything. Of course, it has become the fashion by some to despise Pedroia. I just don't get that.
  24. Our pitchers will need to wear body armor when they face Toronto with Tulo added to the lineup.
