    The discussion over whether the Red Sox should have moved on from Buch raged at the time. A lot of us thought it was a no-brainer to go in a different direction.

    Four or five teams were scouting Hill yesterday. He is not going to be cheap. He would have been very cheap if the Sox had moved on from Buch by trading him.

    When I heard that Farrell had cancer, my first thought was that it was very sad, but my second thought was that they probably would not fire him because of the optics.

    The Mariners are about to complete a sweep of the O's so we will have managed to pick up 2 games in the standings over the weekend despite yesterday's embarrassing debacle.

    What about the income tax consequences to the players? If player B gets $300 k of which $250 k is intended for player A, how would that work? Here there would be assignment of income issues. I guess if those issues don't exist in a flat tax environment.

    And he predictably leaves a big costly hole at the top of your rotation for the stretch run. We bemoan how costly it is to find a top of the rotation pitcher midseason, yet Buch leaves us with that hole year in and year out.

    CP176 has been telling us about Marco H since the middle of last season. I had an eye out for him during spring training. He has a good set of tools and he is well polished.

    The offense got us 7 -- real good production, but will it be enough with our suckass pitching?

    Sometimes the offense will not be there and will lose us a game here and there, but it is not the problem that needs fixing. They are pretty good.

    Lester (pitcher of the month in June) got knocked out after 1 1/3 innings and 8 runs. Three of the first eight hitters took him deep. The Cubbies are the Mets bitches.
